control narrative statedthat Johnny Strobble indicated that Daniel Yagerwaswithhim in the cafeteria.

On 5/11199 I responded to 9956WestProgress Place andinterviewed Daniel Yagerandhis father, Raymond

Yager. DanielYagerconfirmed thathe was in the school cafeteria when this incident occurred.

Yagerstaledthat his sister, Rachael,drovehim to school on4120/99 and that he arrivedat school at

approximately 7:20am. He enteredthe schoolthrough the mainentrance and went to his locker, which is

number3, and is locatedby the stairwellwhichleadsto thecommons by the auditorium. He said that he loaded

his backpack for the morning and thenwent to the gymnasium to meetwith some friends. He says thatbe bas

firsthouroff and from the gymnasium, aftermeeting withhis friends, he went downto the commons. When he

viewedthe maps,be couldn't identifyexactlywhichtablehe sat at during first hour, but thought that it mightbe

table ce, 00, PP,or BBD. He said that for the firsthalf of the firsthour he was by himselfand did homework,

and then he was met by his friendsZack Thompson, JeffAlbason, and ZackZiccardi. He said that after first

hourbe bas math in the math wing in the upper level. He wentdirectly to math for secondhour and didnot stop

at his locker. Yagersaid that he did not notice any largeduffle bagsor backpacksin the cafeteriathat were

unattended during firsthour, anddid not noticeany suspicious activity in the cafeteriaduring that time.

From second hour Yager went to his third hour classwhich is Science in the main level, and then fromhis

Scienceclass he went to his lockerbeforehis fourth hourgymclassin the gymnasium. He said that they

usuallyallowthemto leave the gymclass earlyso theycangetto theirnext class,which in his case is the

"A" lunch. He said that he traveledthroughthe school, passedhis locker, and into the commons area. He said

that he firstentered the cafeteria and went to table JJ andthen on to his table whichhe initiallythoughtwasZ.

He then provideda list of students that were at the tablewithhim. Thosestudents included Joe Tran,Josh

Halder, Tom Clagett, Tim Matheson, ZackThompson, andScottStreeb. I checkedthesenames on the

backpack list and found that their packs were actuallyfound near tableX and Q. I referred Yagerback to the

map and he did changehis locationto table X sayingthatnowthathe remembers it, he was sitting in between

the pillars more into the middle of the cafeteria.

Yageralso recallednow that he hadpurchasedhis lunchandthat he'd purchased it fromthe service line and that

he had purchased chicken teriyaki, He said that he was sittingwithhis friends and thathe was eating his lunch

and he had his back towards the west windows when suddenlyhe turned around and saw that all the students

were under theirtables. He said about this time, Mr. Sanders came in throughthe area by the faculty loungeand

was yellingto get down! get down!as he ran through the cafeteria. Yager said that he did gel under his table

and that shortly after that there was a panickedrush to thestairs. He said that he grabbed his backpack and

jumped over tables and over students, and went with the flow of students towards the stairwell, He said that

when he got to the top ofthe stairs, he heard wbat he describedas four distinctivegun shots. He said that the

gun shots sounded as if they were coming from the cafeteriaarea behindhim and not from upstairs. He said

thatwhen he reached the top of the stairs he turned and ran eastbound down the main corridor and then out

through the doors across the street into LeawoodPark. He said that once he got across the street, and into the

park, he met up with several ofhis friends, and that they heardwhat he believedwere explosions coming from

inside the school. He said that in the park he was with JQe Tran and Josh Halder. He estimated that it was

....,JI'Oximately ten minutes before he heard the explosionsand that he recalls hearing six distinct explosions that

weremuffled and sounded like they were coming from inside the school. He said at that point, he and his

friends decided they would go home. He went to one ofhis friend's house in the neighborhoodand called his

parents.

Yager took his backpack with him out ofthe school and didn't leave anything behind in the cafeteria. He was

wearingjeans and a red Abercrombie shirt and no bat.

Yager said that he was familiar with thegroup known as the trench coat mafia prior to the incident at the school.

He said he thought that they were more like Gothpeople. He said that he neverhad any problems with them,

but had heard that the athletes gave them "crap". He said that he was never presentwhen this happened, he only

heard it through other students. He said that he knewDylan Klebold by sight because he had been in a weight

class that he took during hisFreshman year. He said that Kleboldwas a quiet kid and didn't have anyproblems

within the class and he characterized him as nice while he was in the class. He said he was quiet and didn't

makefriends anddid not say anything in the class. Yager bas hadno direct run-insor confrontations with the

trench coat mafiamembers.

Yagersays that he does have Internetaccessat home, however he does not have an ICQ account and he doesnot

access any of the trenchcoat mafia Web sites. Hedid say that he was presentduringsecondhourmath for the

RebelNews Network and the thoughtof the day was"you wishyou weren't here4120, 4120". He saidhe didn't

think much of the message at the timesinceoccasionally there are goofymessages put on the Rebel News

Network. Yageralso does not know anyonewitha double pierced eyebrow. The only additional information

be couldprovideon the trenchcoat mafiawas that he knewthey didn't like the athletesandsuspected it was

because they were pickedon by the athletes. Yagercouldaddno further information to the investigation.

Kirsten advised thet she did not know Brie Harris, DylanKlebold, or any of their friends. She said she knew of no rumors ortalk of any kind which would have indicated that this incident wasgoing to occur. She had no further information.

On June 1, 1999 this investigator met with Kirstin Young

residence. Present during this interview was her mother,

Judith

Kirsten advised that she entered the cafeteria at apProximately

11,15 a.m. after stopping at her locker by the gym at the end of her

fourth hour class. She said she got her lunch from the lunch counter

and sat down at a table with several of her friends. She was shown a

sketch of the cafeteria and indicated that she had been at the table

marked ·X.· She identified others at the table as: RACHAEL ERBERT,

BRIANNE ZIMMER, KIM WALLENBERG and CRYSTAL MEANNEY. (sp?) She stated

that just after she sat down, she heard one of the teachers tell

everyone to get down - she thought that teacher was Mr. Craigler.

She said they did get down under their table and after about thirty

seconds, many of the students began to run towards the cafeteria

stairs. She decided to follow them and recalled that when she

reached the top of the stairs. she heard some explosions and saw a

great deal of smoke. She stated that she ran down the hallway which

15, 1999, this investigator met with Shannon Zele at herPresent during the interview was her mother, Janet

soanncn advised that she arrived in the cafeteria atapproximately 11:15 a.m., after her fourth hour spanish class whichwas in the language arts hall on the same level as the cafeteria.She said that she went to the center table in the Rehel Corner areawhich would be table "B." Others at her table were: Amy Staley,Elaine Miller, Isiah Salazar, David Schulte, B.J. Secord, andpossibly, Jason Hensley. She said that after about ten minutes, shesaw many of the students standing up and looking outside to thewest. She thought there was a fight but then heard one of thestudents say, "somebody's got a gun." At the same time, she heardone of the janitors tell everyone to get down under the tables. She

said that many of the students in the commons area d~d get down butmany began to run to the stairs. She stated that her friends ran out

the door at the entrance to the Rebel Corner to the student parking

lot. Shannon began to run toward the stairs when her friend, Paul

Freeman grabbed her and urged her to go with him. She and Paul and

Elaine Miller ran down the language arts hallway into one of the

classrooms at the far east end. She believed there were about twenty

other people in the room. She said that after about five or ten

minutes, she heard explosions and or shots but could not tell where

they were coming from. She said that one of the teachers who was in

the room with them went out of the room to see if it was safe. As it

appeared to be, they all ran out and exited through a door and ran

to Polk St. where they found shelter in a house Which is used for

seminary classes. Shannon said that she and several of her friends

decided to walk home.

Shannon advised that her brother, Jeremy is also a stUdent at

Columbine. She said that at the time of this incident, he was at

Southwest Plaza in the food court. He has not yet been interviewed.

Shannon stated that she did know who Eric Harris was. She said

he came into the International House of Pancakes (Bowles Crossing)

one day when she was working there and spent time talking to

NATALIE STOWE. She said that BROOKS BROWN worked there also. She

advised that she saw Natalie at one of the funerals follOWing this

incident and made a comment to her about her knowing Harris. She

said Natalie made a remark like, "don't remind me." Shannon said that

she believes Natalie had been a close friend of Eric Harris.

Shannon stated that she did not know any of the trench coat

mafia members. She said she heard no rumors relating to this

incident. She that on that day, she had been wearing blue jeans and

a white and blue tank top.

On May 12, 1999 at 1732 !:tours ! contacted Nicole Ziccardi at her

horne for an interview. Her mother was present. Nicole then told methe following:•.. She is a freshman at Columbine High. Since the sl:tocting, she

has enro:).led at Denver Lutheran High School. She has a brother,

Zach, who is a sophomore at Columbine and is now with his class at

Chatfield High.

.. When asked about Eric Harris, she said that she has never seen

him nor heard of his name before.

.. When asked about Dylan Klebold, she said t.hat. she has a Team

Sports class wit.h him last semester. She said that he would play

dodge ball in the class and that he played very hard and always had

a • sneer" on his face that seemed to her to be a hateful look.

Several people in the class referred to him as the, "Jolly Green

Giant. " She has also seen Dylan this semester in the halls from

time to time.

.. She said that she used to see another student that wore a

t.rench coat that looked like Dylan Klebold. She said that she used

to get the two of them mixed up because they looked so much alike.

She said that both Dylan and the other student were tall, wore the

black trench coats, and would wear black ball caps on l:lackwards.

She said the one student who was not Dylan had a different

complexion. Upon looking at the yearbook, she identified the other

student who looked like Dylan as Robert Perry.

... When asked, she has never heard of

the other student wear the trench coats but she never saw Dylan and

the other student together.

.. When asked, she never saw any trench coat student or associate

at school the day of the shooting. She also saw no suspicious

obj eccs at school that day. When asked specifically, she saw no

duffle bags.

.. She said that there was a suspicious "phrase of the day" from

the Rebel NeWEl Network (RNN) the day of the shooting. The message

is usually played between 1st and 2nd periods. She could not

remember the exact message but thought it had to do with the day

being a "bad day" and that the students "don I t want to be here

today."

.. on the day of the shooting, she was wearing a white an<:i brown

tank-top, jeans and brown sandals.

.. On the day of the shooting, she had Mr. Mosier's science class

for 4th hour. After getting out at 11:10 a.m., she walked to the

cafeteria with a friend named Tori Owens. She placed her backpack

on a chair at the table she was going to sit at. She said her

friends usually take the three tables next to the stairs. From the

diagram. she identified the table she placed her backpack at as KK.

This was confirmed by the backpack list. She did not know who was

sitting at that table when she left.

,/.. She then walked to Rebel Corner with Katie Jorgenson for a

bagel. The store did not have any so she walked back to the table.

She then decided to go bacll: to Rebel Corner for a muffin. She was

in line at Rebel Corner with Valarie Maland Margo Brown:/'

hung on to Margo's backpack and they ran down the hallway and to the

southeast corner classroom in t:he foreign language area. She said

that 20 other students and 3 unknown female t:eachers wound up in

that classroom. The blinds were shut and the lights turned off.

She said they all hid under desks.

* She then heard what she thought were gunshots coming from the

upstairs area. She heard about 5 shots at first.

* She said a student in the room, Leigh Kamens, took a leadership

role while they were in the classroom and tried to keep everyone

calm. She thought that it was Leigh that suggested they all leave

the room and go out the south exit door next to the room. They had

spent about 30 minutes in the room prior to running out.

* She saw no suspects. She remembered hearing noises, but was

too scared at the time so she did not remember hearing anything

specific while in the classroom.

* She and the others ran south and east to the Mormon house at

Polk and Pierce St. Once there she heard several students talking

about what they saw.

* She said a John Savage (did not know John, identified him from

the yearbook) was telling students that he was in the library when

the students were shot there. He said that Dylan lUebold told him

he was in the library, "Just killing people.· He also talked about

the suspects making a racial comment, "nigger," to Isaiah Shoels

before he was shot. She said that police officers talked to John

and that he identified Dylan and Eric as the shooters.

* She said a Dawn Muirhead told her that she saw a girl get shot

outside the school.

05/21199, 1415 hrs. Brianne Zimmer was interviewed by Detective S.C. Shott #72049(DPO) in her home at 5466 S. Everett Way.

Ms. Zimmer stated that she had completed her 411l period French class at l1:lOAM andwalked directly to the cafeteria. When she got there, she met up with her friends. whoshe identified as Rachel Erbert, Kristen Young, Crystal Enney and Kim Wallenberg,They all sat at the table she identified as table X on the seating chart. Ms. Zimmer saidthat she was not aware that anything was wrong until she saw everyone around herducking under the tables. She said that she and her friends did the same and at that timeshe could hear what sounded like gunshots or explosions. She remained under the tablefor approximately 30 seconds then she ran out of thecafeteria through the main entrancethen up the stairs towards the library. She said that she and her group were probably thelast ones to leave the cafeteria and run up the stairs. Ms. Zimmer said that she ran pastthe library then down a hallway past the choir room when she tripped and fell. While shewas getting up, she could hear gunshots coming from behind her and down the stairs.She said thatshe got up and continued running down the hallway past the math hall whenshe saw Mr. Tank and Mrs. Dimann.a tellingeveryone to leave out the door and leave theschool grounds. Ms. Zimmer said that she dropped her backpack on the ground near themath offices before she left the grounds. She described her pack as a black "Eastpack"that has several key chains attached. Ms. Zimmer said that after leaving the schoolgrounds,she ran across S. Pierce Sr.and did not stop until she arrived at Leawood Park.

Ms. Zimmer said that she did not see a black duffelbag in the cafeteria on the day of theincident,nor did she see anyone bringing one in. She does not know either Eric Harris orDylan Klebold personally nor has she ever seen them. She said that she never heard ofthe Trench Coat Mafia until seeing them on the news. Ms. Zimmer said that whileattending ChatfieldHS. she heard rumors that~d__may havebeen involved; however, she did not actually hear anyone whos~personallywitnessedanyone shootinga weapon.

spoke with PaulineColby and asked her, "How it was going." Hestated she replied, "Strange, very Strange,"

Leland Andres. U stated Kristin Thibault. PaulineColby, and NicoleMarkham arestudents in his chorus class, whichbegins

at 0925 hours and ends at 1015 hours. He informedme that Thibaultwas not in class during that period.but Markham and

Colbywere. He stated he did not speak to Markham or Colbyduringthe class.

I asked Leland Andres. II if Thibaultusually misses a lotof classes thathe teaches, and he stated that she usuallydoesnot miss

his class,

INVESTIGAnON;On 05104/99, I met with LelandAfldres, Sr., at Chatfield High School reference the incident at ColumbineHigh School, I explained to Mr. Andres that I had heard he was in the schoolat the time of the shooting andhe said he was in the Choir room. I asked if he could tell me what happened. Mr. Andres said atapproximately 11:20 hours, three kids came running into the roam saying that someone was outside withguns. Mr, Andres said that as soon as the student said that. they heard approximately 5 to 6 shots thatappeared to be coming from the westside of the school, Mr. Andres said that he get his classtogether andleft through the eastdoor of the choir room with approximately 30 kids. Mr. Andres said that his son, who'salso a student at Columbine. was in the auditorium. Mr. Afldres said that he took his students Into theaur' ium and toid them to lay down on the floor and stay there. Mr. Andressaid that he and his sonIOCK;,d the doors to the auditorium, after which they heard numerous shots, but could not determinewherethey were coming from. However, they sounded like they were coming from the west side. Mr. Andres saidthat he was going back to his classroom to see If there wereany morestudents in there. When he gotapproximately 10 feet from the door, he heard more shots and he then returned to the auditorium with theother students. Mr. Andres said that Jay, the janitor, arrived at the auditorium and told them that theshooters were upstairs and he hadeveryone leave the auditorium. Mr. Andressaid they left the auditoriumand entered the Language Arts hallway and exited through a door In that hallwayto the park. I asked Mr.Andres If he ever saw any of the shooters and he said, no, he did not. I asked If he or any of his studentswere injured duringthis and he said, no, they were not. Mr. Andres said that oncethis was all over that day,he did hear that therewere approximately 58 to 60 kids barricaded in hisoffice in the choir room. Mr.Andres said that he also heard a rumorthat one of the shooters shot at least one shot In the choir room. Iasked Mr. Andres if he saw or heard any of the explosions and he said he heard and felt approximately oneor two explosions. He said that when the explosionsoccurred, you could feel them through the walls andthe floors at the school. I asked Mr.Andres If he heard any of the shooting and he said yes, it soundedas ifit were constant firing and not just random shooting.

1asked Mr. Andres if he was In the cafeteria during the moming hours of April 20'"and he said, yes, he was.I asked if he remembered seeing two large duffel bags in the cafeteria and he said "no". I asked If he hadseen anyone carrying duffel bags into the cafeteriaand he again said "no". I asked If he rememberedseeing Eric or Dylanon Mondayor Tuesdayand he said "no". I asked If he had seen or talked to any of theTre Coat Mafia on Mondayor Tuesday and he again said "no".

INVESTIGATION:

On 081199 I telephonically interviewed Andrew Breed. Breed has not beeninterviewed by police prior to this date. Breed was at school on 042099. He wasin Mr. Andres Choir class in the choir room when the shooting incident began.He was first made aware of the shooting when fellow student Brandon Reisbeckcame running into the room and told his teacher that somebody was shooting agun. He remembers some students running out of the class while others tookshelter in the choir office, he estimated between 50 and 60 students hid in theoffice. He was one of the students who hid in the office. He said that students gotinto the room and barricaded themselves in. He recalls students making calls totheir parents and to the police from a phone in the room or cell phones. Afterabout four hours he was rescued by the Denver Police Department SWAT team.He was then escorted out of the building through the Commons area and thenbussed to Leawood Elementary where he was reunited with his mother.He recalled possibly seeing a gun shot go off, but was unsure. He remembershearing loud noises such as gun shots or bombs.He did not know Harris, but was on a little league team with Klebold once. Hewas not and did not associate with either of them. He reported having a badencounter in the past with what he believed was the TCM. He said that he had aknife held to his throat by one of the TCM members.Breed reported to having no prior knowledge of this incident.

This investigator met with Alison and her father at her home.

Alison stated she has not been interviewed by anyone concerning thecas shooting. She stated she was in Acting class during period 4 in

the auditorium. When the bell rang at 11:10 A.M., Alison went toher choir class next door. She stated the room is next to the

auditorium and Mr. Andres (Senior) was lecturing.

Alison stated she heard a lot of pops going on and then heard kids

screaming outside the room.

At this time Brandon Reisbeck (ph. 303-979-1814) came into the room

and said; "There are two guys downstairs shooting at people."Alison stated most of the choir class ran out of the room, but altos

just kind of fell to the floor.

Alison stated Adam Foss then told most of the students to come into

the office at the side of the classroom. They did this and shut

the door and barricaded the door as well. The students then shut.

off the light.s and waited.

Alison stated she could hear pops and bangs for awhile then it was

quiet and the some more bangs, like bombs going off. Then it would

get quite again.

Alison stated Matt' Cornwell kept calling the police from the phone

in the office and telling them where they were located, but the

police had a hard time finding them. Alison stated SWAT finally

reached them and the students unbarrioaded the door. The SWAT

offioers led them through the auditorium, behind the stated

downstairs, through the cafeteria and out the side door on the West

side. She stated they then ran up the stairs, past a bay on the

sidewalk and a girl on the hill, who she recognized as Raohel Scott.

At the top of the hill they waited for a police cat to take them to

Clement park, where they were checked by dootors and then bused to

Leawood school.

Alison was asked how many students were in the olass and she stated

at the beginning about 110 and in the office hiding there were 60

students.

Alison was asked how she knew how many were in the offioe barricaded

and she stated one of the cops made them count, how many were in the

office before being led out.

Alison was asked how long she thought they were barricaded. She

stated about 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Alison stated she arrived at sohool between 7:15 A.M. and 7:30 A.M.,

and she parks on the West side near the soccer fields. She stated

she was running lata on 4-20-99.

Alison described Dylan as really nice, very b:ieodly, quiet:, would

joke around and he wore black a lot. She st:at:ed she has known Dylan

about: one year.

Alison was asked about: comput:ers and she stated she has no computer

interest and didn't check or chat on line with anyone.

Alison was asked it' she knew any of Eric or Dylan's friends t:hat

were in TCM? She st:ated she did and named, Robin Anderson, Nat:e

Dykman, Chris Morris and Brook Brown. Alison remembered that: Bryan

sargent and Zack Heckler are also TCM.

Alison etat:ed furt:her t:hat Eric would wear flannel shirts which were

different colors and they weren 1 t: black. She stated he would do

this every so often.

Alison st:ated she saw Zack Heckler, 4th. hour in the auditorium.

INVESTIGATION;

On05-27·99, at about 0945 hours. I contacted Columbine High School student John Broden by phone, I asked him about his

observations on 04-20-99 at Columbine High School, Broden Slated thathehad no classes with Eric Harris. but knew his name

'nd saw him in the hallways during the school year, He would also see Dylan Kleboid in the hallway. but had no classes with

Dylan. H. knew the name Trench Coat Mafia, He said it was a nickname for a group of weird kids, Broden did not see either

Hams or Klebold on 04-20-99,

Broden stated that on 04-20·99 hedid not go into the cafeteria. He has third period off and left the campus for that time. When

he came back. he parked at Leawood Park, He slated his first period is Psychology with Mr. Johnson, He stated that Robyn

Anderson and Zach Heckler are students in that class. however. on 04-20·99, neither Anderson nor Heckler was in their

Psychology class.

Broden's fifth period class was Choir with Mr. Andres. Sr. Ten minutes into that class. Broden heard students running and

screaming down the hallway, Someone stated that there was a person in the school with a gun. The students in Mr. Andres, Sr.

class ran into his office. Broden stated that the students turned out the lights in the office and he heard gunshots over a period

of about one hour. Some students in the office were able to contact police by using their cell phones. Broden stated that the

students barricaded the doorway into the office. The students assisted a student whohad diabetes by giving the student a candy

bar and assisted another student who had asthma by lifting that student up toward the ceiling to get better air. Some ceiling tiles

vere removed for better circulation ofair, Broden stated tha: some of the male students took off their shirts and placed them at

on 04·20·99, at ColumbineHigh School. Penny adviseduponmy arrivalthat shewanted to conductthis interview withouther

parents being present. Although her father, Gary Burton,was in the residence, he was not present during this interview.

PennyBurtonsaidon 04-20·99,she arrivedat Columbine HighSchoolat apprcximatelyO'Zl 5 hours, fur her scheduledclasses.

Shesaid she parked herparents' vehicle.a redSaturnstationwagon, that she haddrivento schoolon 04-20-99,in Space#312.

This parkingspace is in the junior's parking lot of Columbine HighSchoolon the southeast side near the cafeteria/commons

saidshe didnot see either oftheseitems,nor did she seeany itemsof a similardescription. Pennysaid she did not seeanybody

carrying itemssuch as these on 04·20·99 either. I asked Pennyif she recalled seeing any of the Trench Coat Mafia students

in the cafeteria/commons area on 04·20·99, while she was walkingthrough, and she said she did not rememberseeingany of

these studentsat that location on 04-20·99, Penny said after enteringthe school and goingup the stairway on 04-20-99, she

wentto her first hourTrigonometryclass,which is locatedin the Mathhallwayon the upper levelof the school,and saidafter

that class, sheproceededto go to hersecondhour SocialStudiesclass, Pennysaidafter hersecondhourclass, she had thethird

hourofffrom any classes, so a friendof hers, by the nameof Stephanie Williams,went with her to Penny's house, so Penny

could gether dress for a "gig" that shesaid they bad later that day, and also soPennycouldpaint her fingernailslor this "gig."

Pennysaid that although she was not certain, she said she did not believeshe went into the ColumbineHigh Schoolcafeteria

during her time off for third hour on 04-20·99, Penny said after having her third hour off, she went to her fourth hour

Chemistryclass, then she said shewent to her fifthConcertChoirclassand arrivedat approximately1115hours on 04-20-99,

Penny saida friend of hers by the nameof MichelleSimmons, who was also in this same ConcertChoir class, and she exited

the Choir classroominto the hallway to get a drink. She said they also talked to a teacher, however, she did not knowthis

teacher's name other thanto saythat shewas a facultymember, Pennysaid after talkingwith this employeebriefly,theythen

went back into the classroom whereshe sat down at her desk. Pennysaid approximately one minute later, two Choirstudents

by the namesof Brandon Raisbeck and Andy Andersoncame running into the classroom,and Penny said that Andy told the

teacherof this class, Mr. Andres, that therewas somebodydownstairs,insideofColumbine High School, with a gun. Penny

said apparently Mr Andres did not hear what Andy Anderson said, so Brandon Reisbeck screamed to Mr. Andres and the

classroom, that there was somebodyin the downstairs part of ColumbineHigh School with a gun. Penny said both Brandon

Reisbeckand Andy Andersonwere visiblyupset at this time, Pennysaid about the sametime, she heardwhat she recognized

as three gunshotsthat sounded like to her were comingfrom insideof Columbine High Schoolin the downstairsarea, I asked

her if she badshot a firearm or beenpresentwhen a firearm had beendischarged and she said she had shot a firearm whenshe

waspresentwithher father,GaryBurtonsometimeago. Pennysaidshethereforewasfamiliarwith the sounda firearm makes

the hallway, was open. Pennysaidshe then heard people in the hallwayrunning and screaming, describingthem as "a mob

ofpeople." Pennysaidthat Mr. Andres toldeverybody to gel downonthe floor, however, all of the studentsgotup from their

desks and beganrunningin variousdirections fromthis Choirclassroom. Pennysaid she ran out of the classroomand into

thehallway, then into the auditorium whereother people were. Shesaid she saw numerous people runningacrossthe Upper

areaofthe auditorium. Pennysaid a friendofhers by thenameof ChristineBen, whowas presentwith her, led heroutof the

auditorium wherePenny saidsheran into the main hallway, Pennysaidshe remembers that she saw ZachHeckler,Christine

Bell, and PatrickKelleyin this area. however, she did not know wherethese three studentswent fromthat location, Penny

said she sawa teacherby the nameofMr Holmes standingby the counselinghall of Columbine HighSchoollookingtoward

the SocialStudieshallway, andthenshesawMr. Holmes signal herto run. Penny saidshe thenexitedColumbine HighSchool

byrunningoutofthedoorby the wrestlingdoors, Pennysaidatno timeon04-20·99, did sheseeany suspectsor students with

, gun or explosive device. Pennysaidas she ranfrom theschool sheheardseveral moregunshots, however, shecouldnot tell

me where these shotscame from. Penny said she then ran to the"smoker's pit," and then ran into to ClementPark Where a

friend ofhers by the name ofAdamThompson picked her and otherstudents up in his vehicleand they left the area.

togetherdaringtbe fallsemesterof 1998, PennysaidDylanKlehold did notwear. trenchcoat inthe classroom,however, site

saidshe had seen himwearing. trenchcoat in thehallwaysofColumbine High School. Pennyalso told me shebelieved that

DylanKleboldandZachHecklerwerebest mends,but saidshedidnotseeZachHecklerweara trenchcoat. Pennydescribed

Zach Heckleras very smart and knowledgeable especiallyaboutcomputers. Pennysaid it was her understanding that Zach

Hecklerand Eric Harrisdid oat get along with each other. Shesaid shewouldnot considerZach Heckler as a TrenchCoat

Mafia studentor a Trench CoatMafia associate.

PennyBurtonsaid she was familiar with Tad Boles, and saidTad Boles"likes me,"however, Penny said she considers Tad

father was not a assaultivetoward him, his fatherwasviolent towardhis mother and bad hit his mother. Penny said she never

saw any evidence suchas bruises or other injuries thatwould indicateTad Boles fatherbadassaulted him. She saidTad Boles

Brown as being "funny and a good actor."

I askedPennyBurton if she had heardanything about anybodyelse.who may havebeen involvedwith Dylan Klebold and Eric

Harris in the shooting at Columbine High School on 04·20·99. Penny said thatPatrick Neville said a white male (unknown

name) was seen on 1]4..20·99 wearing a white t-shirtand a blackvest, and said he was standingnext to Dylan Klebold outside

of the cafeteria throwing bombs on top of the ColumbineHigh School roof.

PennyBurtontold me that about two weeks to one month ago (thefirst part of August 1999),she was talking to Tad Bolesand

he told her something that she said was bothering her. Penny said Tad Boles told her that if he had not dropped out of

Columbine High School, he would have been with Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris during the shooting on 04·20·99, at

ColumbineHigh School. Penny saidTad Boles also said that if the TrenchCoat Mafia had beena part 0 f the shootingincident

at Columbine High School on 04.20.99, it would have been worse, indicating that the Trench Coat Maffia students and/or

associates were not involved in the incident.

Penny Burtonsaid she does not know of anybody, nor bas sheheardrumorsof anybodywho maybe manufacturingexplosive

devices and/or buying, selling or possessing firearms.

This investigator was interviewing Adam Foss when Zack entered

Adam's house to visit.. Zack was asked if he had been interviewed

concerning CBS and he stated he had not. He was then asked to wait

outside and afterward an interview with him would take place. Zack

was very anxious to give a statement.

Zack entered Adam Foss' house and stated he was a Senior with Adam.

lie stated he waS in the choir roam as well, when Brandon Reisbeck

came into the roam and announced someone was shooting. Zack went on

to say Mr. Andres told everyone to stay put and then some kids ran

down the hall outside the choir room.

Zack stated he was on the way out the door with Everitt Wolfe when

Steve Houck stopped at the door of the classroom. At this time Zack

stated he looked out the door into the hall and pushed some more

people out the door. Then Zack stated they stopped people from

going into the hallway and began making them go into the choir

office.

Zack stated he looked out into the hallway again, at which time he

saw Mr. Sanders get hit with a gunshot. Zack stated Mr. Sanders was

going East in the hallway and it looked like he got shot in theback. Zack stated it looked like Mr. Sanders was hit in the back

near the upper left side rib area. Zack stated the shot soundedlike an explosion.

At this time they continued getting everyone into the office. Zackstated he and Adam walked out the front door of the choir room andMs. Miller yelled at them to get back in and get down. Zack statedhe then heard another loud shot.

Zack continued that at this time they went back into the choir roomoffice and barricaded the door. Zack stated he thinks they stayedin i:he room for three hours. He stated he couldn't distinguishbetween explosions and gunshots when he was in the office.

Zack stated he heard someone on the roof later on during the stay in

the office.

Zack stated he was in the office until SWAT came and got everyone

out.

Zack did not see anyone responsible for the shooting.

This concluded the interview with Zack.

On08-13-99, I responded to 5646South Independence COMto contact and interview witnessCareyBrittonCecil, whowas

a student at Columbine HighSchool and graduated in 1999. Thepurpose formy interviewing CareyCecil was in reference

to tile shooting at Columbine High Schoolon 04-20-99. JC-001·004894

CareyCecil told meon 04-20·99, at approximately 0730 hours, hermother Diana Cecil tookher to Columbine HighSchool

and dropped her off in tileFaculty parldnglot. Careyadvised tilat afterbeingdroppedoff in tile parking lot, she entered the

school bywalking through tilemaindoorson theeastsideof theschool bytheColumbineHighSchool administrative offices.

Carey saidwhen sheentered the highschool, shewalkedin a westerly direction downthe main hallway to her locker, which

isnearthe westend ofthe main hallway, Careysaidthather lockernumbermayhavepossiblybeen #1870,however, shewas

not certain, Careysaid up to thispoint, duringthe time,she arrivedat schoolandwent to her locker, she did notsee anything

that wasoutof the ordinaryoccurringatthe Columbine HighSchool, Sheadvised that herfirsthourclassbeginsat0730hours

and is an Economics classon the upper levelof the school, Careysaidhersecondhour classis a Statistics class,andsaidthat

her third hourclass is Calculus. Careytoldme that on j)4·2(l.99, she had her fourthhour classoff, and did not havea class to

attend on that day. Carey said that due to not having a class to attend, she went into the Columbine High Schoo!

cafeteria/commons areaand selecteda table, Careysaidthatthe tablethatsheselectedon04-20·99 is the table thatsheusually

sitsat, I showedCareythe diagramof theColumbine HighSchool cafeteria/commons areaandshepointedout fourtable, that

she may have possible been seated at on 04·2Q.99. These tableswouldbe II, Il, MM:, or NN. All four of these tables are

locatedon the easternedge of the cafeteriaand/orjust southof the cafeteriaservingline. Carey said that she sat at this table

byherselfstndying and did not pay muchattentionto whatwas takingplace in the cafeteria at thattime,however, shedidnot

recallanything unusual or out of the ordinarythat happened on 04·2Q.99 in thecafeteriaup to that point. I showed Carey the

photographs of the dufflebag and thepropanetank thatwere laterrecovered in theColumbine HighSchoolcafeteria andasked

her if sheremembered seeingeitherof theseitemsOn 04·20·99. Careyadvisedmethat shedidnot see eitherOne oftheseitems

I askedCarey if she recalled seeingany of the TrenchCoat Mafiastudents, or what she wouldconsiderTrenchCoat \1atia

students or associates, in the cafeteria. Careyadvisedthat shedid not see anyof these studentsas far as shecouldremember.

Carey advised that her fourthhour was a free hour that wasoverat approximately l l IO hours, and said thatshe walkedto her

hallway lockerand then to the Choir classroomon the upperlevel of Columbine High School forher fifth hourclass. Carey

said that she arrivedin the Choir classroomjust prior to the class starting, and said that when she entered the class and sat

down, the teacher in this class, bythe name ofMr. Andres, wastalking. Shealsosaid thatMr. Andresyelledat somebody for

talking in the class while he was talkingto the students. Carey saidthat while thiswas takingplace, two male students. one

of them by the name of Adam Foss and the other student that Carey knew only as Brandon, came running into the Choir

classroom and advisedMr. Andresandthe class,sayingtherewassomeone downstairs in thehigh schoolwith a gunandwas

shooting. Careysaid that she also realizedthat in the hallway outsideof her classroom, numerous people were running and

screaming, however, she thought that this wasdue to factthat some elementary school kids had possiblygone into the high

schoolandwere runningin and outof'the hallsyelling. Careysaidaboutthis sametime,she heardwhatshe described asone

gunshot,and then a very short time later she heard another gunshot. She said when these shots were heard, half of her Choir

class got up out of their chairs and ran from the classroom, however,the other half remained in the classroom. She said that

numerouspeople went into an office that is locatednextto the Choirclassroomto hide, however, she didn't think therewould

be any room in there so she remained in the classroom. Carey said that she was in the classroom for approximatelyfivemore

minutes, and then she said she heard two more shots that soundedlike they were coming from the ares of the cafeteria, She

also saidas sheheard these shots, they seemedto be gettingcloserand closer to the location she was at. Carey said shestayed

in the classroomand then realized that somebody in the hallway could see her through the glass in the door. so she moved to

the oppositeside of the room to hide. Carey said there was anotherstudentwith her at this time, possibly by the name ofGreg

Nason. Carey said that after realizing that she was in view to anyone in the hallway and hiding on the other side room.

Carey said that after she was in the classroom, the studentsmoveddesks and filing cabinets up against the door '0 if any of

the suspects tried to push their way through the door, they would he unable to do so. Carey said the sixty people including

herself, remained in this office hiding for approximatelythree and a half hours before they were rescued by SWAT.

I asked Carey Cecil what informationshe could provideto me in referenceto the Trench Coat Mafia, the Trench Coat Mafia

students and in particularwhat she could provide to me as faras information about Dylan Kleboldand Eric Harris. Careysaid

that in her Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years at Columbine High School, she had a German class she was taking and

advisedme that Eric Hams was in this class. She advisedme thal duringher sophomore year she would consider them to be

"kind of pals" and said that they would talk, and 'aid that duringthis time Eric Harris would associate with other students in

the class. Careysaid that also during this time shedid not seeEric Harriswear a Trench Coal, however. and said that hewould

wear clothes such as shorts, with a polo shirt or a Tsshirt that she said was the standard dress for students at the school. I

asked Carey if EricHarris ever talked about weapons, violence, or bombs,etc., and she told me no, that she did not ever hear

him talking about those things.

Carey Cecil advised me that during the first semester of the 1999 school year at Columbine High School, the Choirclass she

bad during fifth hour also bad another student in there by the nameof Brooks Brown. Carey said that she could not provide

any informationabout Brooks Brownother than the fact thatshebelievedhe was inattendance in this class on Monday, 04-19-

in their family wanted to speakwith a J.C.S.O. VictimAdvocate. I told them I would make the necessaryarrangements for

themat that rime.
