MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FROM OUR PASTOR

On Wednesday, August 7th at 3 pm we will have Benediction in the church. Benediction means “Bene-good” “diction-words” when translating from Latin. This is a 15 minute prayer in which we praise God the Son in the Blessed Sacra-ment. We sing, we pray, we are blessed with the Precious Body

of Our Lord. Please join us if you can!

We already have 11 weddings scheduled for 2020—if you, or a daughter or son, are thinking about a 2020 wedding, please e-mail me soon to get your date reserved! Now is the time to be talking with family and friends about joining the Catholic Church. Our first RCIA session will be on Monday, September 9th at 7:00 pm in the St. Mary of the Angels Room. E-mail is best to sign up—have your family member or friend send me a message at [email protected] and we’ll get them on our list.

Dear Parish Family & Friends,

Peace and all good, Fr. Steve Giannini

NEW LIGHTING PROJECT

NEEDED IMMEDIATELY Fall Festival 2019 If you even “THINK” you would like to volunteer for anything involving gambling at the FESTIVAL (Monte Carlo tent, selling raffle tickets, 50/50, quilt raffle tickets…), we need your contact information ASAP. This is a requirement for our FESTIVAL license and needs to be submitted almost one month before the FESTIVAL. It will not obligate you to work if you change your mind. Please contact Charlie Wills, (317)859-4673, [email protected]..

“Let there be light.” Genesis 1:3 Our parish has spent quite a bit of money over the years on renting lifts and replac-ing bulbs in our parking lot and exterior wall lights. It is rare for us to have all of the lights working at the same time. Some of the light fixtures in the narthex just don’t work anymore, so it’s been relatively dark in our entryway. We have decided that it’s time to replace these fixtures and lights with new long lasting and energy effi-cient lights so that our parking lot, building and narthex will be brighter and safer for parishioners and guests.

Here are the costs (with Father Giannini’s comments following):

Parking Lot and Exterior Wall Lights Equipment and Labor to install new Parking Lot and Exterior Wall Lights: $34,659.50 (OH NO!) Rebates for the installation of Energy Efficient Lights: $5,585.00 (THAT’S BETTER) Net Cost to the parish for our Parking Lot Lights: $29,074.50 (IF WE HAVE TO WE HAVE TO) Yearly Estimated Savings on Energy Costs: $11,109.55 (WHAT?) Estimated return on Investment to financially break even on this project: 2.6 years (OH YES!)

Our savings do not include savings we would have on maintenance—and our safety benefits are a huge plus for this project.

Narthex Lights

Equipment and Labor: $2,249.00 (THIS WE CAN DO!) A big thank you to all of those who have donated to our Walking in Christ’s Footsteps campaign these past three years. Through our Walking in Christ Footsteps savings account, we can pay for our new lights and then reimburse ourselves back from the savings in electricity costs.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS of INCOMING FIRST GRADERS REGARDING SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION:

If you have a child who will be in second grade next year (2020/2021) and who will prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion, please take note. All children who seek Sacramental Preparation are re-quired to complete our first grade faith formation curriculum BEFORE enrolling in the second grade prep program. The first grade curriculum lays the foundation necessary to instruct students about these Sacraments. This does not apply to children enrolled in our SSFC School Ministry first grade as they receive instruction during the school

day. Contact Patricia McGill if you have questions or concerns, (317)859-4673; [email protected].

Catechists Needed: There are opportunities to serve our parish children as a Catechist, Co-catechist or Catechist Helper in our upcoming Religious Education programs. We attempt to staff each classroom with three leaders such that coordinating absences and sharing teaching responsibilities is possible. The following ages/grades are in need of additional assistance:

We will provide the materials, training and direction needed to work with our young parishioners in their faith formation. Please contact Coordinator of Religious Education Patricia McGill ([email protected]) if you feel God’s call to serve our parish family in this manner.

RE OPEN HOUSE Sunday August 11, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

We kick off our RE program year next Sunday with our Open House/

still in need of volunteers to fill a few positions. See details above!

All children registered for RE should report at 10:00 am WITH PARENTS. Please check-in at the Main Entrance (door #8) Office or table set up in the hallway reachable via the church connecting hall. We will share classroom locations and give families the chance to locate all their children’s classrooms,

sign up for volunteer opportunities, and receive information about our upcoming year. Regular class sessions begin Aug 18.

Sacramental Preparation for Children and Youth 7 years of age or older

Do you have a child age 7 or beyond who seeks to prepare for the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and/or Eucharist, and Confirmation? We can help you determine how to move forward with this important part of your child’s faith life. Our SSFC Bridges Class is one way we prepare children, usually in grades two – eight, to learn and prepare for these Sacraments. Classes will begin October 20 and will meet at 10:00 am on Sundays. Bridges also allows us to share basic information about our Catholic faith that children may not fully understand if they’ve had limited faith formation. We can provide other paths to this preparation for children who are in second grade or beyond eighth grade. Every situation is unique! Contact Patricia in the parish office if you have children in grades 2-5 [email protected], or Monica Robinson [email protected] for those in middle and high school. We are happy to work with you to determine the best path for your child.
