The project “Factories of Imagination: Investing in Cultural Changemakers” (2017-2021) represents a concentrated effort byTrans Europe Halles to increase the resilience of non-governmental cultural centres across Europe and beyond. Thesecentres bring together creatives and changemakers from a variety of sectors (arts, social, education, business, etc.), andcontribute to the social and economic development of cities and regions.

The project addresses some of the most important challenges of these cultural centres through three key objectives aimingto:

1) Structure and connect the fragmented sector of civil society initiated cultural centres.

2) Promote and facilitate international cooperation and mobility between cultural centres.

3) Train cultural professionals working in cultural centres so they can better serve their audiences, users and communities.

The capacity building component of the project is designed around the most relevant topics for today’s culturalorganisations: Organisational development, cultural leadership, business models innovation and audience developmentthrough arts education.

The project will produce 12 international summits, conferences and meetings; establish 3 training programmes providingmore than 20 on-site trainings opportunities, develop and produce around 20 publications, and support the development of12 emerging cultural centres. Through 80 activities taking place in more than 15 European countries, the project aims atbenefiting directly more than 6,000 cultural professionals.

The project will result in more skilled and connected cultural professionals working in non-governmental cultural centres thatcan better meet both prevailing and future challenges together with their communities. Beyond its main target group, theproject expects to contribute to build a more competitive and stronger cultural sector that can take on the challenge ofmaking Europe a more creative, open and inclusive space.

Culture Action Europe with its “Act for Culture-phase III” (Act4C3) project aims to (1) Build the capacity and know-how ofcultural operators to adapt to changing social and economic conditions, to foster inclusive societies and to cooperateinternationally in a structured way, and to (2) raise awareness of the contribution of culture across and beyond the culturalsector to bring fresh ideas for Europe.

CAE strives to foster structured, cross-sectoral exchange amongst cultural networks by establishing a regular platform forexchange: CAE will organise monthly breakfast events in Brussels to exchange and connect on “hot” topics, innovativeideas and projects. CAE will organise its yearly cross-sectoral conference titled “Beyond the Obvious” and will develop amobile application for its members to enable them to connect and get to know each other’s organisation better.

To strengthen cultural operators’ capacity, CAE will strive to build and disseminate knowledge on cultural topics. CAE willact as an aggregator of knowledge, producing podcasts on different topics by interviewing experts. CAE will also continue toraise awareness of human rights violations in the cultural sector through the Arts Rights and Justice group’s activities.Dissemination will take place through events, podcasts, webinars and a series of other channels ranging from newsletters towebsite social media.

CAE strives to raise the awareness of the contribution of culture across and beyond the cultural sector, and will continue toact as a voice for the cultural sector towards the European Institutions. CAE will also ensure that culture is taken intoaccount outside of the sector, in civil society coalitions, and, in some cases, on city level as well. CAE, in certain pilot cities, aims to foster a better understanding between local authorities and cultural stakeholders and provides the culturalperspective for the urban agenda to foster inclusive and sustainable societies.

ERIH was initiated as a project in 1999 with the objective of fostering growing awareness of our shared European industrialheritage, taking it from what was perceived as a limited niche market to a mainstream cultural and tourism product. ERIHwas established as legal entity in 2008 and has continued to grow.. The network has become a respected voice forEuropean industrial heritage sites and industrial heritage tourism, encouraging the economic well-being of ERIH sites andassociated former industrial areas. With more than 1,600 industrial heritage sites in 47 countries ERIH is the mostcomprehensive cultural and tourism inventory of industrial heritage in Europe. Through the current project ERIH aims to save and transfer skills, know-how and competencies; support job opportunities, encourage international cooperation and develop concepts for succession planning. ERIH will undertake an audit ofindustrial heritage training courses and encourage closer links between cultural players and universities to provide studentswith better information about study and work opportunities. With the “Twinning of sites” project ERIH encouragesinternational exchanges and cooperation between thematically similar sites. A particular focus of the project is the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH 2018) for which ERIH has taken on acoordinating role for activities in the field of industrial heritage including and developed a new event format, the EuropeanDance event WORK-it-OUT. In cooperation with other European cultural networks in the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 andthe Voice of Culture Committee ERIH works on a shared strategy for 2018 and a long-term concept for the promotion of theEuropean Cultural Heritage. To strengthen promotion of the network, ERIH increases cross marketing at member sites by the "Links" project. As theprimary network for European industrial heritage tourism ERIH will continue to work closely with other relevant Europeannetworks.

In September 2018 Milo Rau, “the most influential theatre director of the continent” (German newspaper DIE ZEIT) willcreate “Ghent Altarpiece – Het Lam Gods” at the City Theatre NTGent (Ghent, Belgium) in close collaboration withStadsschouwburg Amsterdam (NL) and Schauspiel Stuttgart (Germany). The masterpiece by Hubert and Jan Van Eyck willbe brought to life on stage, with a re-enactment of the spiritual, mythological and historic stories that accompany this 15thcentury painting, showing the naked Adam and Eve and about 100 characters of the biblical history. The painting will betransferred into today’s society. The statement by Van Eyck, to ask real people for a portrait of biblical characters, is thebasis on which we manifest intangible culture and create a new, contemporary narrative.Using a multidisciplinary approach, the painting leads to a new, contemporary theatre art form. The city project will result ina publication and an international education programm. In the dissemination of results that goes beyond the workprogramme of this project call, a TVserie and a documentary film will be created. The artistic objective of the project is tocreate a common awareness on the Ghent Altarpiece, an icon of Western European tangible and movable culture heritage. The audience is an essential part in the realisation of the production. Citizens are invited to tell their personal stories, linkedto the painting; 20 citizens will participate in the production. This participatory approach of audience development is furtherextended in close collaboration with the partners in Amsterdam and Stuttgart. The objective of this partnership is to enhancetransnational mobility (touring) and to reinforce a sense of sharing a common European space and culture, supported bysubstantially developed communication and dissemination strategy. The activities of the project will inspire the youngergenerations, by reflecting on common values, histories and traditions we share(d).

Heritage Contact Zone (HCZ) wants to increase participation in creating a future inclusive European cultural heritage. Ittherefore sees cultural heritage sites as contact zones for processing conflictual aspects of European heritage.

HCZ develops artistic and participatory activities that allow citizens a direct say in history representation. This will create afeeling of ownership of presented topics and enhance awareness, interest and attendance of cultural heritage.HCZ helps small and medium sized heritage organizations to address a broader range of European citizens with tailor madeparticipatory heritage-making spaces that will develop new aspects of heritage with citizens’ input.

HCZ is set-up to celebrate the European Year of Cultural Heritage. In 2018 it will implement a series of high visibility citizenlead activities that deal with contested heritage. 5 participatory art workshops in 5 countries will lead to 5 local exhibitions of‘new’ European Heritage based on objects and stories of citizens that will testify for marginalized or suppressed heritages.E.g. Roma heritage in Timisoara, migration related Algerian heritage in Marseille, slavery representation in The Netherlands,Inter-religious heritage in Greece or holocaust representation in public space in Budapest. These 5 local exhibitions will beaccompanied by a transnational online exhibition.

Following-up on the 2018 activities HCZ will collect more examples of participatory heritage making in order to build a toolkitin the form of a modular system for small and medium sized heritage organizations to implement participatory heritagebuilding spaces. 5 partners will test the system and each implement a tailor made Heritage Contact Zone in their coreactivities.

HCZ involves the culture and heritage sector structurally in all activities to give an impulse to enhance participatorycapacities in institutions and contribute to an enhanced sense of belonging for all citizens of Europe.

UM-SCENE will shed a new light on creative and forward-thinking music made under non-democratic regimes in the laterhalf of the 20th century in Europe, building upon a previous project funded by the Europe for Citizens programme thatbrought about synergies between diverse but like-minded organizations, showing all the involved and many more acrossEurope amazingly rich, inventive music created under unfavorable conditions, in countries where state control and lack ofpersonal freedom were everyday features.

The main focus of UM-SCENE is to build a comprehensive online database related to experimental music in the countriessubject to dictatorial regimes in (mostly, but not exclusively) Central and Eastern Europe in the second half of the 20thcentury, and by that helping to realize their legacy and importance to present-day music scenes across Europe. It will tacklefundamental European values such as freedom of expression and of movement (both of people and ideas / artistic works),in a time when roughly half of what is now the EU and the whole European continent was far from such basic realities, thuspromoting Remembrance and putting in the spotlight shared historical experiences through the re-visitation of importantartistic and cultural legacies. It will focus on cooperation among different types of cultural organizations (museums, experimental radio studios, concert organizers, research institutes, archives) and individuals throughout Europe, with theaim of exploring, documenting, disseminating, interpreting and highlighting the significance and importance of a yet under-appreciated aspect of European cultural heritage, while establishing a dialogue between that legacy and contemporaryartistic and social aspects that will foster new creations and new reflections.

'Atlantikwall Europe' (AWE) is the first cooperation between partners from all 7 countries that have heritage of the Germandefensive line Altantic Wall (AW) on their territory and that want to showcase this exceptional European heritage. Originatedthrough former European projects and spurred by the international aspect of the UNESCO bid for the Normandy LandingBeaches heritage (it is, in 2019, D-DAY's 75th anniversary), a larger network construction is, since 2016, initiated by themain four project partners from Belgium, Normandy and the Netherlands. This to showcase on-site and elsewhere, unknownwartime heritage, linking the Atlantic coast, Germany, Denmark and Norway and the Channel Islands, and to make thiscommon heritage a platform of integrated European and local community building and reflection on present-day challengesthat separate Europeans (i.e. war, walls, nationalism and -exits, refugees and migration issues) and this through arts, digitaldevelopment, heritage and other policy fields so as make this heritage relevant today and tomorrow. The EYCH momentgives European impetus to the start of AWE cooperation becoming a long-term sustainable network. AWE will help nationalsites and heritage policies and its links to other EU and national policies in collaborating on a European platform. AWEhelpsall present partners to work and future adherents to join a European-wide network of AW sites, organising two internationalArt Events, a yearly 'European Bunker Day', conferences, workshops on future actions (like an ethical code, a commonEuropean history school book, a AWE prize) , all in order to establish the heritage network. This gives the opportunity toattract other partners, outside of AW sites: cultural organisations and educational and cultural institutions and otherinterested organisations in different countries. This combines interpretation exchange on this heritage to show itssignificance for today’s Europe youth and its values.

The 4 partners know each other well. Coming from different backgrounds (animation, spectacle, linguistic, teaching, audiovisual), have cooperated several times in projects regarding ethnographic collections and intangible cultural heritagevalues in mountain regions.

The territories under research have been captured by different means and point of views, according to participatorycollection method (interviews, recordings, emotional biographies).

The asset implicitly represented is now expanding and it worth to gather it from direct contact and first hand on fieldresearch conducted with elder people.

With the aim to revert Tramontana projects in a tool for maintaining knowledge, there is need to transform oral collection intotangible assets and spread them without distorting the original meanings or intentions of those aka “privileged witnesses”.The partners dealt with oral, living, uneven heritage, and intend to transform these collections into workshops, docufilms, youtube, radio-narratives, …, empowering Europeans and letting them transmit these memories on their own.

The themes chosen to be spread are considered representative of human activities even in so-globalized societies:entertainment by dancing, work/labour, social commitment and cooperation, landscapes illustrated by pastoralism, the VirginMary cult and others. All these are crossed by the oral expression and language: the language of intimity, the language ofcommunity, the inside and outside languages (proxemia in an extended semiology as distance between the inner self andthe outer social space). The themes recreate connections and bring to accept one another.

The project creates a feeling of open-mindedness while the innovating features of a provoked international awareness willguarantee this heritage to be greatly distributed through mobility practices and productions raised from previous works fromformer Tramontana I and II, and, likely, from those instances arising from the audiences.

Cooperation over many years between three organizations from three countries, wish to present cultural heritage to thepublic and to realize education about heritage, big enthusiasm, brought out this project preparation. Project preparing tookplace parallel in 3 countries in cooperation with experts, first of all ethnologist and professionals in skills field (plannededucators) and meetings, brain storming, brought out, as partners think, quality idea to present and protect heritage. Projectis directed to cultural heritage element, skills to produce folk costume, accessories and headbands – embroidery, weaving, knitting, lace and accessories producing (and related techniques, 5 techniques for every skill) separated in few segments fordifferent public (from the children to global interested public that will have opportunity to use new knowledge in modern life).Project results, as is planned, will be – 12 new made folk costumes, mobile application, memory game, workshop andexhibition. Folk costume from project territory, Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, have common base. But, this base is notex-Yugoslavia, west Balkan, Balkan or south European thorough. Bases are just European. Why? First of all, such divisionsare, historically, very young. Also, Balkan is territory that was in many fields, and in folk costume field, cross road of routesand influences. Influence to choose textile, shapes and motives came from Mediteran, Middle East and from central andwest Europe. Geographical, economical, national and religion specifics had influence and help to save authentically of eachfolk costume. Basic elements of each European costume are the same over centuries, evolve and develop in manyalternative, but keep until today common elements. Skills to produce traditional costume, as main project idea, andtechniques, are common to all European nations, but motives and colorful are what make the difference.

The European textile industry has always been keen to preserve representative examples of textile production of the past, either for creative or for educational purposes. Numerous collections of antique and exotic textiles, today preserved inmuseums, have come from the private collections of textile entrepreneurs or industrial institutes and schools. Over the lastfew decades, the economic crisis that has affected the European textile sector has resulted in the loss of many textilearchives. The main objective of the project is to promote the textile heritage as a source of inspiration for artistic contemporarycreation and promote new marketing and communication strategies focusing on quality, creativity, cultural added value andheritage marketing. The project’s expected results will be as following: * a better understanding of the role that textile heritage can have for artistic creation by young designers and artists * the acquisition of new professional skills, ideas and relationships by the young designers and artists as a result of the re-use of the textile heritage and creative residencies* the creation of new products / services inspired by the textile heritage and possible opening up of new market opportunitiesfor young designers and artists* the strengthening of the use of culture and creativity to better preserve, present and interpret textile heritage. The project partnership is composed by textile museums, design schools and local authorities from five different EUcountries (ES, IT, PL, PT, SE), with territories having a long-standing tradition in the textile & fashion sector . These threetypologies of partners have been chosen so to ensure that project activities are implemented effectively and sustainability isensured beyond the project’s life.

The cooperation project A Place at the Royal Table born of a need : share the European Heritage with citizens. ThisHeritage is not only a built Heritage, but it is also an immaterial Heritage composed of Histories, places, people, traditions, sounds, tastes which contributed to create the Europe we currently know. The royal residences symbolize the milestones of Europe and, in a context of rapid mutations, they have a role to play asactor of the change, stimulating the social inclusion and the economic development. This can only be done putting theaudience at the center of the creative process and reinforcing the European sense of belonging. It is on these basis that the project A Place at the Royal Table is organized. The project aims, through an European calendarof participatives activities, to tell the European history through the story of its cuisine, its tastes and its traditions which comefrom the European exchanges and which symbolize a territory open an permeable. It is a current “reading angle”, originaland fun, which tell the History and talk about contemporary Europe through the exchanges which contributed to create it.Digital, with the knowledge of our audience, will be the fundamental elements to reinforce and rethink about our commonspace. The method of « learning by doing » already tested within the framework of learning activities is adapted to the activitieswhich will be especially developed for the European Cultural Heritage Year in order to create a strong interaction withaudience, to stimulate intercultural and intergenerational dialogue . A wide range of common activities will be realizedthrough the network in order to reinforce its image to the public and to make the royal residences real ambassadors ofHeritage in Europe.

The project aims to promote intercultural and inter-generational dialogue by linking tangible and intangible heritage, performing arts, life stories, traditional knowledge and skills with contemporary issues, through the implementation ofinternational artistic residences in five historical-archaeological sites, including the organization of knowledge-sharingevents, site-specific performances, community-based events. It aims to raise awareness of common history and values and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common Europeanspace, with the active co-working and synergy between international operators in the cultural heritage sector, in the culturaland creative industries sector and the communities from different countries. The project connects, reinforces the artistic andcultural experiences of the territories, building a dialogue within a European, international landscape.

It features the implementation of its main actions in five remarkable historical-archaeological sites: Segovia (Spain), Rudiaeand Castro (Italy), Nivica (Albania), Constanta (Romania). The sites, their histories, their communities are at the core of theactivities through trans-national collaborations between archaeologists, culture heritage operators, cultural players andartists. 'Legends on circular ruins' is moved by the deep belief that cultural heritage is a source of knowledge that unitespeoples, that nurtures circular imaginations, that revives memories, that re-generates a deeper gaze and understanding ofthe present and of our future. The ‘space’ of knowledge is always circular, the space of theatre, dance, music is circular, sois the space of the encounter, in an infinite movement of cultures, of languages, going beyond borders, separations.

The First World War was the first military conflict in human history on a global scale. World-wide over 100 nations gotinvolved of which 24 European. Its outcome defined the landscape, economy, identity and demographics of continentalEurope. The historical frontline went from the North Sea, over the Balkans to the Gallipoli archipelago and connectsEuropeans in one symbolical line. Moreover the First World War uprooted millions of European civilians, most of whom were innocent bystanders, creating thefirst massive European refugee crisis ever. War migration has repeated itself over and over during the last 100 years. Abetter comprehension of the past is essential to understand the present.CON-FRONT wants to raise awareness on this common European legacy through a unique international cooperationbetween contemporary music venues and heritage partners. The partnership will examine new ways of commemorationthrough previously unexplored methods, accumulating the specific expertise of both cultural and heritage sectors andconfronting past with present. The partnership spreads from Belgium, France, Slovenia to FYR Macedonia, connecting a large part of the differentcontinental European war fronts. Its main outcome is a cross-border multidisciplinary creation of a group of younginternational artists (pop / rock musicians, visual artists), staged in the participating countries for a diverse and hard to reachaudience and a cross-border documentary of international young film makers capturing the whole creation process and itsresult.Furthermore dissemination of the project and its content is planned through alliances with a wide range of music-related andhistorical conferences and symposia and WWI commemoration events. A jointly-written online methodology based on theproject’s experiences and results will serve as a sustainable manual for other European organisations, looking for new waysto interpret or commemorate a historical legacy through artistic creation.

The intangible cultural heritage of food in Europe is an enormous yet underestimated resource; gastronomy treasures theentire history of a territory and embodies how different cultures have merged over the centuries. It is largely used to promotetourism but hardly ever treated as a resource that can reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space andsocial integration. In the last 60 years thousands of species, breeds, and varieties selected by humans, but also processedfoods - such as breads, cheeses and sweets - have disappeared.

For this reason, during the European year of Cultural heritage 2018, this partnership will seek to carry out an action that willmake EU citizens more aware that food heritage is a way to express their belonging to Europe, to communicate the culturalimportance of gastronomy through the innovation and the interaction of cultural and creative sectors and to safeguard of andgiving value to European food heritage.

In order to successfully meet these objectives the action will carry out the following activities:

1) Multimedia artworkThe partnership will create a multimedia artwork dedicated to European food heritage largely based on the contents of SlowFood’s Ark of Taste archive that will circulate in cultural spaces - such as museums and film festivals - in different countries.

2) Engagement of citizensIn parallel with the multimedia artwork travel, the partnership will launch a call to action to engage different audiences in theprotection of the European gastronomic heritage and invite everyone to take action to help protect them through twoEuropean wide contests.

3) Engagement of EU institutions, national and local governmentsThe multimedia artwork will be brought to Brussels to raise awareness of EU policy makers’ attitude towards the importanceand value of gastronomic heritage and ask them to add the safeguard of gastronomic cultural heritage in EU politicalagenda.

Journey to the Beginnings is a collaborative project involving prehistoric cultural heritage sites and museums, contemporaryarts and new technologies to rediscover and promote the prehistoric cultural heritage of the ancient civilisations that livedalong the river Danube. The main goal of the project is to develop a new interpretive infrastructure for the involvedprehistoric sites, their museums and archaeological parks by using cultural heritage as a source of inspiration forcontemporary arts and new technologies. The project will examine new ways of heritage interpretation to help enhancepublic appreciation of prehistoric cultures in all their forms and diversity. In the framework of the project we are fostering a cross-sectoral collaboration between archaeologists, museumprofessionals, contemporary artists and IT experts which will result in live performances and a complex Augmented andVirtual Reality based application. The live performances will be celebrations of the prehistoric cultural heritage taking theform of festivals at each site, and the application will offer a sustainable interpretive infrastructure that will develop the visitorexperience. The Journey to the Beginnings project takes on the challenge to tear down the walls between modern and ancientcivilizations and connects them with the participation of art and science bringing the audience closer both to archaeology, contemporary art and modern technology.

CDCM aims to develop methodologies and new concepts for the perception and the interpretation of cultural heritage as aspace of representation. The focus of the project is re-framing the cultural heritage in Macedonia, Croatia and in TheNetherlands. These geographical spots in Europe can become the starting point of an open debate on re-framing culturalheritage in Europe.

In Part 1 - Skopje, Macedonia, the project will engage with the consequences and after effects of the project "Skopje 2014",a project that was initiated by the previous government of Macedonia. Aiming to create a new identity many socialists andmodernist buildings were 'dressed' in new facades in 'neo (neo) classical architecture'. Despite the attempts to classify thesebuildings as 'real cultural heritage’, there is a clear disapproval amongst the citizens. With the project, we want to openpublic debate to relieve the city of the imposed and controlled understanding of history, displayed by the project "Skopje2014".

In Part 2 - The Netherlands, animated by the national debate regarding the use of the name of Admiral Witte Corneliszoonde With, a Dutch officer engaged in colonial exploits by Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, we want to focus on howthe stories about our past, construct the image of how we collectively see ourselves. Exposing the painful discrepancybetween the self-image of tolerance and the colonial and slavery history upon which the Dutch Society is built, it becomes amatter of controversy whether to re-name spaces or keep the link to a blind spot in history.

Part 3, in Croatia the CDCM with the organized activities will aid onto the ongoing citizens' campaign for preservation andcritical re-evaluation of the mid- 20th-century architectural modernism, focused primarily on the mid-Dalmatia. Moreprecisely the project will aim to help the citizens to further recognize the value of modernist built environment as a mementoto a better construction history.

The project Imagine Europe. A House History proposes an interdisciplinary journey into a network of emblematic Europeanhouses interacting with & finding new inspirations from young artists, students & citizens across Europe. In the context of theEuropean Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, it casts light on a less known chapter of the history of cultural heritage in Europe &attempts to propose new innovative ways of embracing & promoting its creative potential. “Emblematic” can be understoodas architecturally designed for a person of interest to European common culture during the 20th.

Managed by 3 partners with the support of 3 associate partners & professional networks, it will show how emblematichouses previously designed or inhabited by Europe’s most creative minds still represent today a resource of creativity &inspiration for artists, young generations & citizens. It will also illustrate how these houses can find a new purpose, reinventtheir environments & find new audiences. During a period of 24 months, artists, students, professionals & also the generalpublic are given a platform to reflect on this specific history & imagine a future for these emblematic European houses.

During the project, they will be guided by cultural institutions, university staff & experts. A public consultation will help identifythe most emblematic houses and propose the most utopian scenarios. 8 ‘in-situ’ residencies will enable artist to work closelywith students on the European value of each house & implement creative solutions for public involvement. Local exhibitions, public Walls (including digital), publications, posters and various training events and communication tools will help theproject maximize its visibility, communicate the results to professionals in Europe & beyond & ultimately raise citizens’awareness. The whole project is supported by a strong consortium of organisations mixing deep experiences in the art, heritage, education & conservation fields.

The Parallel Traces project aims to create an opportunity to unearth the urban imprints of Jewish cultural heritage providingEuropean citizens from several countries the possibility to dis-cover them. It combines a focus around the traces of JewishHeritage in the European urban landscape with artistic photography, audiovisuals and the use of augmented reality. This willtake place by combining two elements with the same partners, linked by subject matter and joint communication anddissemination mechanisms. On the one side, the Project will organize existing information gathered by its Partners todevelop an application (App) providing augmented reality in connection with a series of identified places and venues. On theother, the Project will organize a pan-European contest for the creation of original photographic and audiovisual workfocusing on contemporary physical traces of European Jewish culture in the fields of architecture and urban planning in anyof the Consortium’s participant countries and the cities identified by them. Selected artworks, all of them in digital format, willbe turned into an itinerant exhibition to travel to the different participant cities. The augmented reality app will be an important tool helping to disseminate and discover the Jewish history and values to alarge audience. The international contest, and exhibitions following, will promote the circulation of artistic works, andpromote exchanges between cultural agents and artists, creating new networks and possibilities of increased access intonew transnational and international markets. These combined actions will turn tangible resources inherited from a shared and often forgotten past (including monumentsand sites) into a source of inspiration for artistic contemporary creation, thus strengthening the interaction between thecultural heritage and other creative sectors such as photography, multimedia, video art, or similar expressions of digital-related creativity.

The Via Molina project aims to increase the awareness of mills in Europe and to strengthen cooperation between millorganizations in different European countries. The way to do this is, first, through mill routes with which the audience isinvited to visit several mills throughout Europe. Second, the mill routes invite cooperation between the mill organizations inthe various European countries. Via Molina is the umbrella for the exchange of knowledge, skills and network. The ViaMolina project has two big aims. 1. Connecting the past with the future and reaching out to the public a. Strengthenregional and national Mill-days Mill-days are the events where the public is invited to visit one or more mills. Theparticipating organizations inspire each other with better activities. b. Create cultural mill routes and publicity of the millroutes In the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the participating countries want to increase awareness of the commonhistory and values and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space. By focusing on the mill, the culturalmill routes can make a great contribution here. 2. Sharing knowledge and capacity building along all mill-volunteers inEurope, to start with The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. a. Knowledge exchange and capacity building By sharinginformation between the mill organizations and sharing knowledge of communication, marketing and education, in everycountry that participates in Via Molina, the mill organization will do its job better. b. International meetings to exchangeknowledge and experiences Each participating country has national or regional mill organizations. They have existed foryears and focus especially on their own mills and do not often have contact across the border. This can be improved so theparticipating organizations can learn from partners in another country with a different culture and exchange knowledgebetween participating countries through international meetings.

CREATIVE FOOD CYCLES enhances innovative and creative practices between food, architecture, and conviviality in atransnational and European perspective. New devices and rituals in urban food production, distribution, consumption, anddisposition are designed and implemented, for extended education and training and for audience development, fostering theexchange of ideas and of creatives in Europe. The approach merges new ways of design and digital interaction in a transdisciplinary way, exploring cultural, social, andeconomic innovations accelerated trough the activities. Addressing architects and designers, professionals and creatives, the project is developed and realised by three cooperating artistic-scientific groups from LUH Hannover, IAAC Barcelona, and UNIGE Genova, that transform urban spaces into laboratories of CREATIVE FOOD CYCLES—boosted by thecombination of the partners‘ competences in advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) by IAAC, urbanresilience strategies by LUH, and inclusive citizen participation and co-creation by UNIGE. The activities of workshop experiences, co-creation installations for prototyping, the international Biennale Festival, anditinerant exhibition are part of creative education and extend audience by choice and by chance. The project promotes aholistic approach, joining all the aspects of CREATIVE FOOD CYCLE through the interlinking of phases: from production todistribution (phase 1), from distribution to consumption (phase 2) and from consumption to disposition (phase 3). With anopen and inclusive approach and with targeted communication, a deeper interconnection among architects, designers, cultural operators, institutional stakeholders, and active urban society is stimulated, combining the concept of food resilienceto the cultural sphere. For dissemination and roll-out, decisive multiplicators are addressed, also in other cities, andinnovations in education is sustainably fostered.

Imagining Sustainable Glass Network Europe (ISGNE) includes four partners in UK, Germany, Latvia and Ireland. Theproject involves 33 associated organisations and EU Glass Artists / Designer-Makers (GADM) and Glass cultural Workers(GCW) in 19 European countries. ISGNE will focus on audience development and transnational mobility relative tocontemporary glass practices as tacit knowledge and craftsmanship; within the constructs of intangible cultures, visual arts(sculpture) and design and applied arts field (decorative arts & craftwork). Glass is at serious risk and has become acritically endangered craft, ISGNE’s main priorities are the documentation, treatment, restitution and dissemination of Glassarts / Glass Making (GA/GM) from the rural and urban glass communities of Europe. ISGNE is an interactive online/offlinecommunity connected to imagine new ways of artistic mobility, to use learning and technologies as a vector, to augment thesharing of experience, creative practice and professional opportunities for artists and new publics. ISGNE will be accessibleto a non-arts audience, and bring a wider public debate on GA/GM. ISGNE is only possible with a direct and participatoryinvolvement of target communities. To meet this challenge, our project is able to deploy and combine both technical andartistic expertise, which are diverse but complementary. During the project a dense set of activities will be deployed: a richseries of workshops, publications and reports (artistic/mainstream, paper/digital, online/offline, text/multimedia), community-driven cultural events, forums, exhibitions and symposia in the involved territories (to be broadcast globally); where all of ourknowledge will be convoked within glass disciplines from antiquity to contemporary practice. There is a vast, rich andarticulated cultural history of European GA/ GM that needs to be taken into account and protected not only for heritage oracademic purposes, but also and especially for a consequent revitalisation, through a closer intercultural transmission ofknowledge and learning.

In 21st Century, post-industrial Europe, shipbuilding, textile and other industries have relocated. Abandoned industrialspaces and folk memories are contemporary tangible and intangible heritage. The question “what next?” is being exploredacross Europe by artists: intervening, questioning policy, engaging with local residents, diverse cultures, politicians andplanners. Six European Cities (Govan, Gdansk, Gothenburg, Limerick, Ostend and Levadia) will explore “what's next forpost-industrial waterfront heritage zones?” Can we learn from partner cities that are successfully delivering liveablecommunities, respecting the heritage, the memories and the eco systems (human and bio diverse) as well as boosting thelocal economy? Can artists learn, share and collaborate to transform the narrative for those cities still grappling withquestions of land ownership, contested space, homogenisation and gentrification? Memory of Water explores what makesthe difference when collaborative, artist and citizen-led visions are incorporated into planning. Our methodology isparticipatory arts practice: 19 artist interventions, 8 cultural exchanges feeding into 9 cross-sectorial “city laboratories”.Participating cultural organisations, local activists and key urban stakeholders will learn and share. Artists engaged in eachcity will lead the exploration and sharing: exchanging practice; learning from each other and encouraging emerging artists todevelop their own innovative, creative interventionist methodology. We will share learning through our networks: local/national press and media, social media, academic journals and European cultural networks. International networks(especially our River//Cities) will host our bespoke digital trans media platform: sharing, debating, and exhibiting art works, film and findings.

As every Periphery is its own centre, Centriphery will give the citizens of the so-called “periphery” a central voice inexploration and transformation of local myths and empower them to participate in the re-creation of local identities andEuropean narratives.Centriphery is a multi-layered interdisciplinary, inclusive and accessible, European project engaging professionalinternational artists in an intensive dialogue with local artists, participating citizens (citizen artists) in decentralised regions.Audience Development is defined in a broader interactive sense, extending access to under-represented groups or peoplewith special abilities and engaging citizens in the creation process. It fosters Capacity Building through intensive workshopsand innovative approaches to co-creation through the development of a participatory methodology involving residencies andexchanges, giving citizens a voice in a self-reflection process about their identity and potential transformation.Starting point of the artistic research is intangible cultural heritage in the form of local myths and their relevance to theidentity of the regions.
