Notes for the teacher

• Goal: Students will read an animal fable and learn the moral of the story.

• Objectives:1. Students will identify the animals in the story.2. Students will practice verb/ pronoun agreement. 3. Students will practice past and present tenses.4. Students will demonstrate their learning by completing

activities.

• Level: Intermediate/Advanced Stage II III• Time Frame: 1 week• Rubric: Teacher- designed to measure progress

according to age and level• Standards ACTFL

Synopsis

The story talks about a peacock who was praised by his mom so much that whenever he meets different animals, he brags about his own beauty. Other animals tell him that everyone has something to be proud of. But when he meets the fox, the fox says that he won’t tell the peacock if he is pretty or not until he has tasted his meat. The peacock gets scared and runs away to his mom. His mom tells him that real beauty means to tolerate others and not to brag The peacock becomes ashamed of himself.(Standard 2.1,4.2)

الطاووس يوم• Procedure:• Students volunteer to act the sound of the

animal when they hear their names called.• The teacher reads the story slowly aloud,

whenever the characters hear their name called they make the animal sound if possible or at least wave or make a gesture.

• The story is distributed to the students. they have the choice either to read it silently or aloud to each other.

• During the week the teacher lets all the students read aloud and she does oral comprehension checks. ( Standard1.2)

• I. Before Reading (Into)

– Prior knowledge: Teacher asks questions : Do you like to go to the zoo? What is your favorite animal? Tell me about it.

– Gallery walk: Teacher hangs pictures of the animals from the story around the classroom ; students will identify the animals and choose a sound to represent them.

– Share and tell :bring a favorite stuffed animal to share and tell about. ( Standards 1.1,1.2)

– Listen to the story and make the appropriate animal sound.
