Government means an
agency or body with the
authority to control and
direct the affairs ofgovernment.
Some types of
government are:
Democracy, Autocracy,
Republic, Dictatorship,
Oligarchy, Tyranny,
Aristocracy and
Monarchy.
Types of government
systems in the Caribbean
to be studied are:
Constitutional Monarchy
or the Westminister
Model of government and
Republic.
Examples of countries
that practice
Westminister Model of
government are: Jamaica,

definition of terms.
2 The teacher will ask the
students to say what they
think the functions of
government are. Other
functions that are not
mentioned by the students
will be told to the class by the
teacher. Students will make
relevant notes
3 The teacher will explain the
different types of
government, then students
will be asked to share with
their peers the differences
between each type of
government.
4 The teacher will share with
the class the characteristics of
a Republic and Constitutional
Monarchy. Short notes will be
written on the board and the
