"LET US TOO STAND IN THE TEMPLE AND HOLD GOD'S SON AND EMBRACE HIM; AND THAT WE MAY DESERVE TO LEAVE TO WITHDRAW AND

START ON OUR WAY TOWARDS A BETTER LAND..." A Christmas Sourcebook, p. 85.

Is it "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays?" This seems to be an ongoing discussion as to what is more appropriate for the season. There was an article in the New York Times recently precisely about this. The Pew Research Center had conducted a survey as to which phrase is better, the various ways people celebrated Christmas, and religious displays on public property. Of course, there is a variety of responses from different groups and ages. Fifty-two percent said it didn't matter what the greeting was, while 32% preferred "Merry Christmas." Since it is Christmas, "Merry Christmas" would seem to be the more appropriate greeting. Ninety percent of Americans surveyed said they would celebrate Christmas in some form, with 86% stating that they would celebrate with loved ones. While attitudes about Christmas may have changed, there is a strong conviction among people to celebrate Christmas as an expression of their faith. Fifty-four percent said they would attend a religious service. While there is a diversity among Americans about Christmas and its celebrations, Christmas remains an important part of our faith and our culture. Hopefully, this will continue to grow in the coming years. Today is Holy Family Sunday, a day to celebrate the family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It is also a day to celebrate our own families, large or small, because it is in the family that we find our meaning and the experience of life, friendship and love. Today, in celebration of our families, we will bless all our families at all the Masses. Tomorrow, we begin 2018, a New Year. Hopefully, this year will bring peace to the troubled areas of the world. In the name of our entire Parish Staff: FR. SILVANO, FR. JOHN, DEACON DAN, DEACON ART, DEACON JERRY, NANCY CAPUTO, KIM MAILLEY, MATT WILSON, ANN MARIE GESUALDO, CAROLINE PONTERIO, OUR SUPPORT STAFF, AND MYSELF, I want to extend to you and your family our best wishes for a HAPPY, HOLY & BLESSED NEW YEAR. May 2018 truly be a year of grace for you, your family and our parish.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! BUON ANNO!!! FELIZ ANO NUEVO!!!

~ FR. JOE

PARISH SCHOOL NEWS

Mrs. Caroline Ponterio, Principal

A PRAYER TO KEEP GOD FIRST THIS NEW YEAR: Dear God, Thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for all that you've allowed into our lives this past year, the good along with the hard things, which have reminded us how much we need you and rely on your presence filling us every single day.

We pray for your Spirit to lead us each step of this New Year. We ask that you will guide our decisions and turn our hearts to deeply desire you above all else.

We ask for your wisdom, for your strength and power to be constantly present within us. We pray you would make us strong and courageous for the road ahead.

We pray for your protection over our families and friends. We pray that you would give us discernment and insight beyond our years, to understand your will, hear your voice, and know your ways.

Forgive us for letting fear and worry control our minds, and for allowing pride and selfishness wreak havoc over our lives. Forgive us for not following your ways and for living distant from your presence.

We confess our need for you…fresh…new…again. We ask that you make all things new, in our hearts, in our minds, in our lives, for this coming year. We pray for your refreshing over us.

Help us to be known as great givers, help us to be generous and kind, help us to look to the needs of others and not be consumed by only our own.

Shine your light in us, through us, over us. May we make a difference in this world, for your glory and purpose.

To you be glory and honor, in this New Year, and forever.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

weeks, the name will continue to be listed in the
