Dear Sorors:
It is indeed an honor and a pleasure to extend a sisterly, heartfelt welcome to each of you attending the 2017 Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster Conference. Your presence confirms your commitment to leadership and service. Planning and organizing a conference requires tireless hours of work from numerous sorors and oftentimes family members as well. Special thanks to Soror Michelle Curry, Cluster Coordinator, Soror Ky’Jahna Gerard, Undergraduate Cluster Coordinator, and the Northern Ohio / Western Pennsylvania host chapter, Epsilon Mu Omega. I commend your exemplary planning and warm hospitality. Cluster presentations have been designed to strengthen your ability to effectively contribute to our sisterhood and our extended communities. I encourage you to take full advantage of all that is offered during the day, as well as the joy that comes from connecting with sorors whom you have not seen since last year. Please take time to enjoy sisterly conversation and sharing of best practices with fellow sorors to help stretch your thinking and equip you for continued service to all mankind. The 2017 Cluster will provide an opportunity to recognize and thank chapters and individual sorors for their kindness and sisterly support during this administration.
I trust that you will leave this conference reconnected, recommitted and inspired. As you return to your respective cities, dare to be unique and forward thinking… Act on your beliefs and continue the Alpha Kappa Alpha tradition and credo, “To be supreme in service to all mankind.” Sisterly,

Greetings Sorors,
Welcome to our 2017 Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster Meeting. I am delighted to be in “Festival City”, Warren, Ohio. On behalf of the Northern Ohio/ Western Pennsylvania Cluster I would like to thank our host chapter, Epsilon Mu Omega for their outstanding efforts to make today a success.
The past year as your Undergraduate Cluster Coordinator has been nothing short of amazing. This position has provided me life changing experiences through our Undergraduate Round ups, 2016 Cluster Retreat, and the 2017 Great Lakes Regional Conference. I thank Madam Regional Director Toni S. Kendrick, Madam 2nd Supreme Anti-Basileus Keniece Gray, Northern Ohio/ Western Pennsylvania Cluster Coordinator Michelle Curry, my Graduate Advisor Tracy Elliot, my fellow Alpha Sigma sorors and my lovely sorors of the Northern Ohio/ Western Pennsylvania for your continuous support and advice throughout this jour-ney.
As we approach the last year of our 2014-2018 service initiative "Launching New Dimensions of Service," I ask that we all continue to strive beyond our goals. Our 2017 cluster retreat has given us the opportunity to continue our mission of providing "Service to All Mankind". Our "One Million Backpack Project" and "Family Strengthening Food Drive" are the dedicated service projects for this cluster retreat.
The phrase "big things come in small packages" applies to your efforts today. The donations received at this retreat are making a big difference in many students’ and families' lives. Sorors, I commend you for your excellent determination and continuous contributions.
Sorors, as we gather here today I want you to remember how blessed you are to have the lovely sisters that surround you. Today is a time for service fellowship, sisterhood, and a celebration of womanhood so let us embrace each other. Today and beyond, remember that we are strong women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and together we will succeed. Once again, thank you for your fellowship and service.
Sisterly,

The Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster History
The Northern Ohio Area Cluster held its first meeting on December 8, 1979, at the Commodore Perry Motor Inn, Toledo, Ohio with Cluster Coordinator, Soror Ann C. Battles, Zeta Alpha Omega, presiding. This historic meeting was hosted by Zeta Alpha Omega, Alpha Lambda and Iota Iota Chapters. The theme was "Communicate, Understand, React and Reactivate". Soror Gloria S. Smith, Delta Tau Omega, Great Lakes Re-gional Director, was the luncheon speaker. Seventy-five sorors were in attendance.
The second Cluster meeting convened on October 4, 1980 at Youngstown State University hosted by Epsilon Mu Omega and Delta Delta Chapters. The theme was "Influencing Decisions - Design for Action in the Eighties". Soror Ann C. Battles presided and was re-elected Cluster Coordinator. Soror Gloria S. Smith, Great Lakes Regional Director, spoke on Hazing. Fifty-eight sorors were in attendance.
On Saturday, November 14, 1981, the Northern Ohio Cluster met for the third time at the historic Cleveland Job Corps Center, hosted by Alpha Omega, Lambda Phi Omega and Omega Chapters with Soror Ann C. Battles, presiding. The theme was "Influencing Sorors through Communication and Motivation". Soror Ebras-ka D. Ceasor, Alpha Omega, was elected Cluster Coordinator. Seventy-five sorors were in attendance.
It was not until October 1982, that the sorors of Western Pennsylvania voted to join forces with the sorors of Northern Ohio to form what we know today as the Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster. This merger took place under the auspices of Great Lakes Regional Director, Bella Clinkscale and Regional Cluster Coordinator, Patricia Petty. Several meetings during 1982-1983 were held to revise the "Guidelines for Planning a Cluster Meeting". The Cluster Coordinators who shared in this undertaking included: Alma burgess, Pittsburgh; Ebraska D. Ceasor, Northern Ohio; Mae Jackson-Williams, Western New York; Roslyn McQueen, Michigan; Sandra Thompson, West Virginia; and Urcelle Willis, Southern Ohio. This historic merger became effective on October 8, 1983 at the first official meeting in Elyria Ohio at the Holiday Inn. Cooperatively planning this event were Ebraska D. Ceasor, Alpha Omega Chapter, Northern Ohio Cluster Coordinator and Alma Burgess, Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter, Western Pennsylvania Cluster Coordinator. Seventy-two sorors were in attendance representing their respective chapters. This meeting was hosted by Iota Phi Omega Chapter, Lorain, Ohio. Sorors Ebraska Ceasor, Alpha Omega and Susie Rice, Lambda Phi Omega were elected Co-Coordinators for Northern Ohio and Soror Mona Morphis, Alpha Alpha Omega, Western Pennsylvania Cluster Coordinator. From this point on the new name would be Northern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania Cluster.
In 1997, another significant merger occurred at the Cluster Meeting held in Cleveland, Ohio when sorors unanimously voted to combine the two individual Cluster Coordinator positions.
