So, how do you rate?

Physicians are now rated by their patients for quality and patient satisfaction on

websites such as www.healthgrades.com. If they receive a low grade then then current

patient retention will decrease.

What Patients Want

Depending what service the patient is seeking and their level of knowledge: They will look up the Medicare ratings for

safety. Medicare rates from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest score www.medicare.gov

Then the patient may obtain your practice ratings on “Yelp” or similar sites to review your current practice ratings

By providing outstanding customer service, you can receive free marketing on Yelp, and other social media sites, when patient’s reviews indicate their satisfaction

Patient’s also review the physicians on their state medical boards – remember all complaints are listed because it is public knowledge

Customers have choices on where they spend their money. It is critical that a

practice, which has now become like any other retail business, market to the public

the services provided. As well as detailing why customers should choose

your practice over your competitors!


Internet Marketing

Internet marketing works when you: Send a clear and concise message

in a webpage about why customers should choose your practice for their healthcare needs.

Provide monthly newsletters of seasonal services.

Share the addition of providers and the value they bring to the practice.

Provide information that patients are interested in hearing about related to your practice.

Conduct a survey – what do patient’s really want?


Focus on these strategies;

Outside marketing staff who visit referral sources

Clear “sales” goals communicated and managed through reports on existing and new referral sources

Vendor call centers and radio advertising are very successful for specialty businesses (i.e., workers comp, chiropractic, med spa’s, cosmetic surgery, and weight loss).

Inexpensive outside vendors using your PM system can automate external marketing strategies


Work with Health Plans to Drive Business

Make sure you are contracted with health plans that reimburse well.

Make sure the health plans know what services your practice provides and your hours of operation and website address!

Believe it or not most health plans have no idea what services you provide at your practice.


Verify Your Practice Info

Make sure you are listed with the correct contact information on their online directories and booklets.

Depending on your specialty, strong relationships should be maintained with hospital and/or rehabilitation discharge case managers.
