Why should you look for a job you enjoy?
• There is too much choice in today’s job market
• Too much choice = • hard to actually find what YOU are good at & what YOU want to do
• frequent job changes, dissatisfaction, lower quality of life
• But figure out what makes you passionate =• find your career track
• find the drive to strive
• derive satisfaction from work -> benefit yourself & friends + family
So what should you do?

1. Find what you want• Answer the questions that
follow
• By the end, you’ll have the
characteristics of the job you
enjoy
CULTURE
• What kind of work environment do
you prefer?
• How big a team would you like to be
in?
• How much autonomy do you want?
• How much flexibility do you need?
CHALLENGE
• What do you want to learn?
• Are you looking for new
experiences?
• Do you prefer stability or variety?
• How much risk are you willing to
take?
PLEASURE
• What kind of work do you enjoy
most?
• Which sectors/industries are
interesting to you?
• What fascinates you?
• What drives you?
PURPOSE
• What’s the end goal? Where do you
want your career to culminate?
• Where do you want to get in life?
• Which of your values & needs must
the job meet?
2. Come up with a long list
of options• Just what it sounds like: list all
the options that match your
criteria from step 1
YOUR OWN IDEAS:
• Write down the name of any
company, sector, function or job title
you thought of while completing step
1
RESEARCH:
• Search job sites, company careers
pages, Google, LinkedIn and any
other platform you can think of for
current and past opportunities that
match your criteria
INSPIRATION FROM YOUR
NETWORK:
• Look at people in your network and
write down any roles that seem
interesting to you
• Remember to stick to your criteria –
don’t let other people’s apparent
success sway you!
BROADER RESEARCH:
• Get in touch with people/companies
you have identified in step 2.
• Arrange informal chats, information
interviews or shadowing
opportunities.
• Go to networking events.
• Ask recruiters.
3. Narrow down your list • Cross off anything you don’t
actually want to do
• Highlight your favourite
options
• Write down exactly what you
are going to do next
4. Apply• Use the channels required by
the specific job
