After our fair was over Jacob Stalzer and his steer

was selected to be apart of the Governors Charity

Show at the Iowa State Fair on August 13th. The

Governor’s Show raises money for the Ronald

McDonald House. Each year the Governor’s

Charity Steer Show brings together personalities in

media, business, sports and government, to lead

1,300-pound steers in the historic Pioneer Live-

stock Pavilion during the Iowa State Fair. Thou-

sands of fairgoers flock to the event to not only root

for their favorite celebrity, but also share their sup-

port for a worthy cause led by the Iowa cattle indus-

try.

Congratulations Jacob!!

Beef Bits A huge congratulations to Ethan and Evan Espenscheid and Jarrin Goecke on their exhibits at their national jr shows!! Ethan and Evan attended the National Hereford show and Jarrin the National Simmental show. Also congrats to Jarrin Goecke as he was selected the Champion Jr. Showman in a contest that had over 150 exhibitors. His heifer was also a division champion at the show. We couldn't be more proud of you 3 young man and how well you represented Marshall Co.

Iowa State Fair - It's just around the corner! A reminder to all exhibitors that you MUST have a health paper with you before going onto the grounds. Also please remember to CHECK YOUR TATTOOS to make sure they are still legible. If you have any questions please give the beef com-mittee a call. We are wishing you all the best of luck and to have a great time. Also a reminder to those exhibiting in the 4H show to be sure you wear your Marshall Co Jr. Beef Breeds t-shirts on Monday/check-in day of the fair. FFA members if you get a chance please wear your t-shirts as well one day. Remember herdsman ship is important. It allows us to get a prime spot in the barn. So please make sure our aisle is clean and taken care of. GOOD LUCK EXHIBITORS!

Hacks & Hounds

We invite all youth that will be in 7th to 12th grade to join County Council. This is a great opportunity to work on your leadership, communication and citizenship skills. You’ll also get to meet other 4-H members throughout the County. Our organizational meeting for the 2016-2017 year will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 5 p.m. at the Extension Office.

Record Book

Doni Sheldon became involved in 4-H in 1991 as a club co-leader. She served on the Youth Development Committee for a number of years and found that she was totally entrenched in what ‘4-H’ stands for and the importance of this organization being a strong asset to the youth in Marshall County. During this time she became co-chair of the Central Iowa Fair exhibit building and served in that capacity for a number of years. She became the Marshall County Extension Youth Coordi-nator in 1999 and retired from that position after 14 years. She continues to be in-volved in 4-H as a club co-leader for her granddaughter’s club, advisor for the Out-door Adventures 4-H Club, serving on the planning committee for the Clover 5k Walk/Run Fundraiser the past three years and volunteers at the Extension office when needed.

the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full

of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a

banquet, and community service activities.

Lauren Mosher, Genessee Merical, Cody butler,

Malorie Blink, and Leah Mosher all got the

chance to attend this year.

Forty-two Iowa youth are beginning their new terms as State 4-H Council members. They

were inducted during the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference on

June 30. Lauren was chosen for this next years 4-H council. She will attend multiple

retreats throughout the year that focus on developing leadership, citizenship and commu-

nication and personal life skills, while also providing opportunities to work as a team and to

make friends

Leadership Camp was held this year at

Pilgrim Heights Camp and Retreat Center

on July 12-14th. It was a 3 day camp

attended by 13 youth from Polk county

and 12 from Marshall county. The youth

engaged in a community service projects

(pictured right) to clean up the facilities at

Pilgrim Heights. They did various activities

through out the three days. They
