Appreciation of the book: It is a touching story for me. Oliver’s life was tough! He never gave up easily. He was very special. He lost parents’ love since his childhood. He also went through the dangerous and horrible experiences of life. In fact, I like his life, which is full of danger because I hate my boring routine life: ‘Get up, go to school, and get home’! I love a life that contains romance and full of strange things. It is my favorite story for me to realize the orphan’s life. They are lonely, pitiful, bullied. These kinds o f children are extremely poor. I realize that I am very happy for living my carefree life. I must treasure my parents’ love and caring. I want to repay their care and love. When I grow up, I must take good care of them when they are old. I love my life and my family!

Lai On Heng, Anson 3D (13) Title: The Five people you meet in Heaven Author: Mitch Albom

This book is about a soldier called Eddie, who was hurt in a war. After he was hurt, he became a maintenance worker in an amusement park. In an accident, he died while trying to save a young girl who got in the way of a falling cart that hurtles to earth. In Heaven, he met five people, who were unexpectedly instrumental in someway in his life. While each person led Eddie to look around the Heaven, he learnt a lot about what his time on earth meant, what he was supposed to learn and what his true purpose of living on earth was.

After I read this book, I think that we must treasure the things or people that we have now. We will not know what will happen in future. In the book, I love a sentence. It is “The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.” I think it is meaningful for those people who always worry about their relationship with others. I agree with this sentence because there is always someone on your side helping you while you have problems. It is only that is we could not feel the importance of those people. Those people may have helped and supported us quietly but we may have neglected them. Actually, every person that we have met will appear in our life once again. Each person is also important, and we live in the world to cross their path. Don’t think that we are alone as it is really wasteful of our time. It is useless to spend most of the time thinking about this question. I think we should rather think of how to live more happily instead.

While I was reading this book, I had sympathy of the five people who taught Eddie those principles. Either Eddie or I also have learnt things from them. I would recommend this book to those who don’t know their aim of living and those who always want to end their lives. I think this book can help them to change their mind.

3T1 Choi Yi Chi (9) Title: A Christmas Carol Author:Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol was set in Victorian England, the largest city in the world. Under the Industrial Revolution, the city was both reaping the benefits and suffering the consequences. The main character, Scrooge, was a businessman who cared about money only. He refused to help the poor, only grudgingly gave his employee a Christmas day off, and turned down his nephew’s offer of Christmas dinner. He hates Christmas simply because he never made any money at this festival. On the Christmas Eve, Mr. Scrooge's dead old friend, Jacob Marley, brought him 3 Spirits, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Each Spirit taught him a different lesson: The Ghost of Christmas Past brought him back to the place where he was born to remind him of his lonely childhood, which made him become miserable. Then he was brought to Fezziwig's warehouse in which he used to be an apprentice. He then found out how nice Fezziwig had treated his apprentices. He felt ashamed of having been mistreating the ill and poor Mr. Cratchit. It told him that Christmas was a joyful moment for people. He was penitent that he had just been focusing on his work instead of respecting the things and people around him when he was alive. He knew that money was only of a little part of life. Finally Mr. Scrooge woke up. The dream had given him a call that woke him up. The new Mr. Scrooge now was full of love, joy, benevolence and forbearance: he sent a big turkey to the Cratchit; donated money to the poor; patted children on their heads softly; questioned beggars by heart; respected whatever he saw; visited his nephew and promised to raise poor Cratchit's salary as well as be concerned about Mr. Cratchit's health. This story tells us not to put money first before everything. We should learn to respect people and to help people we need. Don't be selfish to help. We should reach out to help. This story makes me feel something very important that Hong Kong people are missing now. They put all of the effort in work and don't share a bit of time to care others that need help in the society. If I were Scrooge, i would not waste so much time on earning money. Instead, I would do something meaningful. I may help poor people or meet some old friends. After reading this book, I learn a lot such as we must not be selfish. At last, I would recommend this wonderful book to all of my classmates.

3T1 Chau Ka Yu (6) Book Name: Grace Darling Author: Tim Vicary Summary:

On the afternoon of the sixth of September, the steamship Forfarshire began its journey from Hull to Dundee, in Scotland. There were sixty people on the Forfarshire, which was a big, comfortable, modern ship. However, the wind was getting stronger and there were big grey waves. Near the Forfarshire, there was a lighthouse and there were three people in it. They were the knight – William Darling, his wife Thomasin, and their daughter Grace. A long time later, Grace saw that the Forfarshire was broken in two. A while later, Grace saw that there were men on Harker’s Rock with her telescope. After that, she and her father went there to rescue them. However, before they arrived, three people had died already. Luckily, they could rescue the other nine people to the lighthouse at last. Queen Victoria thought that Grace Darling was one of the finest young women in this country, and she wrote to thank her. One hundred years later, people still remember this day. Feedback: After reading this book, I think Grace Darling was very brave. Although she was just a twenty-year-old girl at that time, she was very brave enough and regardless of the danger, she rescued those people that were dangerous on the Harker’s Rock. If I were Grace Darling, I might not have the courage. It is because I would be afraid that I would die on the way to the Harker’s Rock.

Grace Darling would sacrifice her life at any time. When I was reading this part, I felt very excited. Luckily, she didn’t die and tried her best to save nine people’s lives. Besides Grace Darling, I think in reality, there are people who always try their best or even sacrifice their own life for saving others’ lives. When I was reading this book, I thought of some firemen and policemen. They sacrifice themselves to save others’ lives. I think they are respectable!

3A Sarah Ho Title: Emma Author: Jane Austen

The story is about Emma Woodhouse. She was a beautiful, clever and rich girl. She lived alone with her father in Hartfield in the village of Highbury. She loved matchmaking. Her friend, Harriet Smith of seventeen who had no friends or family but kind and had beautiful blue eyes. Emma knew all about her. She then decided to be the matchmaker between Harriet and Mr Elton. Mr Elton was a young handsome clergyman with a comfortable home who needed a wife. She also persuaded Harriet to refuse the offer of marriage of a farmer, Mr Martin. Then, Emma planned many ways for Harriet and Mr Elton to meet. Through the meetings, Emma sued that Mr Elton loved her. However, this was just the guess of Emma. Before long, Mr Elton asked Emma to marry him. Emma was amazed and rejected him. Later, the arrival of Mr Weston’s cousin, Frank let Emma and Harriet forgot Mr Elton for a while. When Frank in Highbury, there were parties, balls and picnics. Also Mr Elton brought her wife to Highbury from London. Since then, Highbury became more mirthful. Through these, every body thought that Frank and Emma was in love with each other. Also, Harriet loved Mr Knightley since he rescued her in the ball. Finally, everything was clear that Frank and Jane Fairfax had been secretly engaged since they met in Weymouth. This had to be a secret so Jane wasn’t friendly to Frank in public. But Frank didn’t like that and spent all his time with Emma to make Jane jealous. After Jane’s explanation, Emma and Jane became good friends. Not only Mr Knightley forgave Emma for being vein and go married with her, but also Harriet got married with Mr Martin. What a happy ending!

In this story, I don’t like Emma Woodhouse at all. The reason is that she was self-centred

Workaholic Samantha Sweeting was a top lawyear at Carter Spink. One day, she forgot to register a security document within 21 days at Companies House. This made her client lose 50 million pounds and she lost her job. She walked out of her office, got on a train and went to a big, beautiful house owned by Trish and Eddie. They thought Samantha had no idea how to do housework and be a cook. Luckily, Nathaniel the gardener helped her by asking his mum, Iris to teach her. Through learning, she learnt a lot of things. Samantha became a perfect housekeeper that Trish and Eddie were proud of.

Meanwhile, Carter Spink invited Samantha and wanted her to continue her career as a lawyer. At first, Samantha took the offer. When it was time for her tosign the contract, she ran away. She didn’t know what to do, to continue being a lawyer or a housekeeper. At last, Samantha decided to continue being a housekeeper and enjoy her life.

‘The Undomestic Goddess’ was an enjoyable read. The writer Sophie Kinsella wrote it in an interesting and attractive way. My favourite part was Samantha trying to use the washing machine and cleaning the bathroom. She didn’t know how to use the washing machine and made a big mess. At last, she took the laundry to the cleaners’. When she was cleaning the bathroom, she accidentally pointed the bleach bottle nozzle to herself and had a bleached patchin her hair. Even Trish couldn’t stand her like that and asked her hairdresser to fix her hair. Imagining the way that Samantha did the housework, I couldn’t stop laughing. If I were Samantha, I’d rather quit my job and leave! Ithink Samantha tried to finish everything, no matter how hard the work was. I must learn from her regarding her attitude at work---once you start, you must continue with it until the very end.

Leung Cheuk Yiu, Earnest 3A Title: The Little Secret Author: Kate Sauders Publishers: Macmillan

The new girl at school, Staffa, is very small and very thin with paper-white skin and ink-black plaits. She has funny old-fashioned clothes and an odd way of speaking. But none of that bothers Jane, who thinks Staffa is different, daring and a great best friend. But Staffa and her mother, the terrifying Lady Matilda, have a secret so strange and incredible that Jane’s life may be in danger if she discovers it. Later, she finds that Staffa and her mother are from another world. One day, she is taken to their world unconsciously. However, she finds that their world is not pretty at all. It is a world of death-defying bee-riders and giant racing spiders, a world where wicked plots are planned. At last, the wicked Lady Matilda is put into prison. Staffa remains in her own world and Jane returns to the real world, along with the letter by Staffa. They remain good friends though separated in two totally different worlds.

This is a mysterious and interesting story. Through the experience of Staffa and Jane, I have learnt that friendship is valuable. It will last forever regardless of time and place. ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’ suits Jane and Staffa very much. They help each other wholeheartedly and do not mind risking their lives. My favourite character is Staffa. Lady Matilda is her mother. However, Staffa ignores their relationship and judges everything impartially. She is a role model for everyone. If everybody can behave like Staffa, there will not be many unjust happenings in the society. Although the message brought is very positive, I find the ending imperfect. Staffa and Jane are good friends. They will surely want to keep contact with each other in the future. However, the wooden box linking the two worlds is destroyed by Jane following the order of Staffa, who does not want human beings to disturb their world. Therefore, they are separated forever. There should be a more ideal ending so as not to disappoint readers. If I were the author, I would write: The box linking the two worlds is kept by Jane under her bed. Whenever she wants to visit Staff, she can always do so. Isn’t it a more wonderful ending?

3A Angel Li Tin Yan Title: Prince Caspian Author: C.S. Lewis Publisher: Harper Collins

‘Prince Caspian’ is the fourth adventure in the exciting Chronicles of Narnia. During the season that was full of gloom, the Penvensie children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, were waiting at the railway station for the train to take them back to school. Lucy felt a sudden tug, then Edmund did, and a minute later Peter and Susan did too. At the next moment, the luggage, the seat, the platform and the station had vanished. And they found themselves standing in a woody place near the sea. They were also surprised that the place was close by the ruins of their former castle, Cair Parawel. They were back to the magical land of Narnia where they had had wonderful times when they ruled as Kings and Queen in ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’.

But something was very wrong. Their glorious castle lay in ruins

and everywhere was strangely silent and empty. With the startling arrival of the Dwarf, the Pevensie children learnt the sad fate that had befallen Narnia. Civil war was now destroying the land. The brave Prince Caspain, who had realized his uncle King Maraz’s evil plan, tried to regain the kingdom that was rightfully his. But Caspian needed help of the Pevensie children and those talking animals. With the guidance of Aslan, the children took up the challenge to save Narnia. They finally restored the long days of freedom and happiness. And they went back to the human world through a door in the air made by Aslan.

I think this book, ‘Prince Caspain’ delivers the message of the need that we should treasure our friendship. If we have found our true friends, we should treasure the time we spend together. It is because the time we meet, play, and share with our friends is very precious and valuable. In the story, the Pevensie children could only stay in Narnia for a short period of time and they must return to the place where they belonged to at last. Although they had made many friends in Narnia, they could not meet them for too long. If they did not treasure the time

Page 9: 3T1 Chan Ka I Oliver Twist 08-09/S.3BookReport.pdf · Summary of the book: This story is about a poor orphan’s dramatic experience. He was called Oliver Twist. He was a good boy

spent with their friends, like Aslan, they might not have another chance to meet again.

Moreover, I have learnt to trust after I have read the book. With reference to the Bible, when we trust the power of God and follow him, we may get surprises. We have to learn to trust. It is because if we want to gain others’ trust, we must trust others first. Prince Caspian trusted Aslan, Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy and all the talking animals and he won their trust. With their help, he restored the long lost days of freedom and happiness in Narnia. This proves trust is very important. Last but not least, I highly recommend this book to all of my friends because of its exciting plot and the messages it tries to convey. I hope everyone can learn something after reading the book, ‘Prince Caspian’.

3A Alice Lee Wing Yee Title: Charlotte’s Web Author: E.B. White Publisher: Harper Trophy

Have you ever thought of keeping a pig as your pet? It sounds ridiculous, but a girl called Fern really did. Fern was a girl who lived in a farm. One day, some pigs were born, but one of them was a runt. Fern’s father was going to kill it. Since Fern was a warm-hearted girl, she stopped her father from killing the pig and decided to take care of it. Since then, Fern had played with the pig and taken care of it every day. The pig was called Wilbur and he enjoyed playing with Fern. But when Fern was at school, he was extremely lonely. No one in the farm wanted to be his friend until Wilbur met Charlotte, the spider. Things were going well with Wilbur, but a pig has to be killed and becomes ham. Wilbur did not want to die. He begged Charlotte to help him. Charlotte tried to use her web to weave some words to draw people’s attention. Her plan was finally successful and Wilbur became very special that he would not be killed.

I think this is a book which shows us the value of great friendship. Charlotte the spider was really a true friend of Wilbur. She tried her best to save Wilbur’s life and he did it not because she wanted any rewards. She knew that she was going to die soon after having babies, but she still kept on helping Wilbur, making webs to draw people’s attention in order to prevent them killing Wilbur. A true friend helps you without asking for returen when you are in trouble. Charlotte is one of the examples of true friendship. After reading this book, I have learnt that I need to maintain my friendship. Friends should not argue with each other over trivial matters. We should support each other. We should help each other when we face trouble. What will you get if you have a fight with your friend? You will get nothing. Instead you will lose a friend and you will feel lonely. So from now on, I will treasure my friendship.

I would recommend this book to those who always argue with their friends and do not care about friendship.

Title: The Chronicles of Narnia – Prince Caspian

Author: C.S. Lewis

Summary: The Preventive children had left Narnia for a few months. And then they were waiting at the railway station for the train to take them back to school, while they were waiting for the train, Lucy felt a sudden tug, as Edmund, Peter and Susan did too. When they noticed they were safe. They knew that they were back in the magical land of Narnia where they had a wonderful time when they had ruled as Kings and Queens there through some clues. They found that in Narnia, thousand years had passed. They had become the historic people. The Old Narnia, where the animals could talk and trees could move, had already passed. They met Prince Caspian and he told them that they needed to have a battle to fight for Narnians. But of course, they finally succeed in helping Prince Caspian to be the king and Narnia was peaceful again. Comment: After reading this book, I think this story is amazing. This story can attract me to read its all seven series. In this book, my favorite characters are the four Preventive children. Different children have different merits: Peter was clever and mighty. He had to look after all his siblings; Susan was a gentle woman; Edmund was good at managing the meetings, so I think he was the most systematic among the four; Lucy was the youngest one but the bravest. After reading this series of books, I have imagined going to a place like Narnia through my wardrobe or every corner of the World. I have also thought of whether I can go to a place like Narnia when I’m on a train or waiting for a train. Of course I know that it must not be true. I think that Mr. C.S. Lewis was a person who was full of imagination. The story is more attractive than the Harry Potter’s series. Harry Potter’s series have a selling point but I think the first and the second book of Harry Potter’s series are attractive. But some parts of the other series are so boring that they have no points. In the story Mr. C. S. Lewis wrote, the characters were very real, so were the trees and the river. This kind of books is suitable for all ages, and I like them very much. Narnia was made into a movie a few years ago!

Lai Hoi Kwan 3T3 (11) Title: Animals Trainer Author: Michaela Morgan Summary: Shelley was bored in the long holiday. She wanted to be a world famous animal trainer after watching an old video. In order to practice her plan, she wanted to train her dog Dustbin. Shelley let Dustbin join different sorts of training, but Dustbin failed in these training. One day, a miracle happened! Because of Dustbin superb appetite, a producer chose Dustbin to be the star of the dog food advertisement. But Dustbin ate the film of the advertisement in the end. Comment: If you want to find a book that makes you laugh, I will recommend this book to you. It is because this book is full of humor, especially at the end of the story. I love the dog Dustbin in this story; it is a funny dog and has superb appetite, it could eat anything such as toys, books and shoes. Although Dustbin was not as obedient as other dogs, its appetite was excellent. Dustbin showed this strength in the screen test of the dog food advertisement; it could eat the food that other dogs did not. So, it finally became a star dog. Sometimes, we may think that there is nothing good about ourselves, but everyone is unique in the world. So, we surely have something outperform the others just like Dustbin. No one fails forever. When we find a chance to show our forte, we can be successful. We should try hard to make our dreams come true, even though it may be difficult. Shelley and Dustbin are good examples.

Au Yeung Pui Shan, Cynthia 3D (2) Title: For One More Day Author: Mitch Albom Publisher: Sphere Summary: This story is about how a middle-aged man, who is an occupational baseball player, was hurt and cannot play in the sports ground. After that, he always drank. His wife and daughter left him. His life was destroyed when he discovered he would not be invited to his only daughter’s wedding. Then he committed suicide. He met his mother, who had already died for eight years, in a mysterious place, and found out the reason why his father left them when he was young and learned how much his mother had sacrificed for the family. Comment: I think this book is very touching. The writer shows the virtue of forgiving. In the story, the hero went back and recollected the past, then resolved different mysteries and secrets. I like reading this book because I can see myself in the story. As I am getting older, I start to feel annoyed about my parents’ care. I think what they have done embarrasses me. Then I start to avoid getting along with them, even get mad and say something to hurt them. But after reading this book, I review the relationship between me and my family. I lost my father two years ago, so I regret that I haven’t treasured his love when I have a complete family. In this few years, I learn how to pay, how to understand, accept, forgive and then love. In this book, I try to see from the perspective of parents, which is a world that I am afraid to understand forever. I feel very abashed that I have hurt my parents. But it also urges me to settle our relationship again. Although they aren’t the ones who don’t understand me, it is the time now to try to understand them well. I highly recommend this book to all of you whether you are the child of your parents or the parents of your child because you will know more about your child or parents.

Title: Prince Caspian

Author: C.S. Lewis

Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers

Summary: This series is the continuation of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe”. The main characters are still Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. This story is about the return to Narnia of the four children. While standing on a railway station in 1941, the luggage, the seat, the platform and the station vanished suddenly. Peter soon realized that they are in Cair Paravel, where they ruled as the Kings and Queens of Narnia in the past. Although only a year has passed in their world, 1300 years have passed in Narnia. They had an adventure in Narnia and then they met Prince Caspian, which was the true king of Narnia. They soon knew that a war is going to begin since Miraz, who was the uncle of Prince Caspian, would have an evil to invade Narnia. Would they succeed? Comment: After reading this book, I always imagine that I am one of the main characters in the story. It is very amazing that I can have an adventure with my brothers and sisters. But it cannot happen in the real world … I learn one thing from reading the book: courage. If we can take the first step in the beginning, we will succeed very soon! My favorite character in this story is the dwarf that they met near the river. Although the dwarf was not so good to the four characters, he helped them after he knew that they were coming to save the Narnia. I think the dwarf was also very daring to help them during the war between the Prince Caspian and Miraz. I admire the author very much because of the great imaginative power of him. He used some very clear sentences to describe some spectacular views and people, making it easier for me to understand the story. I need to thank him. Because of this successful author, we can now enjoy this wonderful entertainment!

Title : Treasure Island.

Writer : Robert Louis Stevenson. Summary of the book: Treasure Island is an adventure novel written by author Robert Louis Stevenson, narrating a tale of "pirates and buried gold". First published as a book in 1883, it was originally serialized in the children's magazine Young Folks between 1881-82 under the title The Sea Cook, or Treasure Island .Traditionally considered a coming of age story, it is an adventure tale known for its superb atmosphere, character and action, and also a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality—as seen in Long John Silver—it is unusual for children's literature then and now. It is one of the most frequently dramatized of all novels. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perception of pirates is vast, including treasure maps with an 'X', schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen with parrots on their shoulders. My feeling: Treasure Island is a classical story for its reason but I think it is extremely difficult to read. I was entertained by Long John's evilness, ruthlessness and brutality; but I thought the first part of the book was extremely dull. I totally disliked Mate Bill and, for me, the book didn't take me anywhere interesting because I couldn't relate to it very well.

This book really did frustrate me at the very beginning because I did not understand the old languages that were written in the book. I hated the ending of the story because you never really received f good feeling. I did learn that the main character, Jim became a loyal and responsible character though.

Overall I did quite enjoy reading the book and leant a lot of vocabulary from it. I did fancy the plot too. I will recommend people to read this book if they are want to learn the vocabulary from it.

Title: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Summary of the book:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a story written by author Roald Dahl. It is a story about Charlie who was born in a poor family. He lived in a very small house with his family. His grandfather was an old man who had been working in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Charlie’s wonderful adventure began when he found one of Mr. Willy Wonka’s precious “Golden Jacket” and won a whole day visiting inside the mysterious chocolate factory. There were other four

lucky children who could visit his factory. One of them could have a surprising gift after the tour. However, they didn’t know that, the surprise was to have Willy Wonka’s factory. This factory was a modern building and everything inside were fantastic. At last, Charlie won the prize. Finally, He lived in the factory with his family and Willy Wonka. Appreciation of the book:

The author used some exciting words to write this story. Mr Willy Wonka’s character was written as a funny man. In the story, the scene that about Charlie and his family lived in house impressed me most. They were poor, they didn’t have enough warm clothes to wear, but they were sweet. I could feel that they were living happily without any luxurious things. I have learnt that, I can’t be greedy and I should feel happy and satisfied with everything that I have now. If I was Veruca, I wouldn’t ask for some impossible things. I would be happy about all the things that I had.

It is a wonderful story. I learnt a lot form this story. It tells us a message ----money does not mean everything. It can’t buy fortune, happiness and time. If we use money to do bad things and don’t help the poor, then money will become meaningless. I will remember this message from the story forever. If I become a rich people in future, I will donate money to help the poor people. A Christmas Carol is a great medium to learn proper moral. I will recommend this book to all my friends.

Title: The Witches Author: Roald Dahl Publisher: Heinemann Educational Publisher Summary: The Grand High Witch turns a greedy and obese boy, Bruno Jenkins (lured there by the promise of six chocolate bars), into an anthropomorphic mouse as a demonstration of the method. The witches sniff out Luke, who manages to escape. He manages to get to his hotel room, but is captured by the Grand High Witch herself. She then pours an entire bottle of Formula 86 – all 500 doses of it – down Luke’s throat, resulting in another mouse with a human mind. Bruno and Luke meet in a vent. Luke and Bruno manage to reach Helga’s room safely, although part of Bruno’s tail is cut off and Luke manages to steal a bottle of the potion and use it against the witches by adding it to the soup reserved for the witches themselves. One of the hotel cooks is actually a witch, a proven by her purple eyes. She tastes the soup after the soup has been mixed with the formula, and turns into a mouse herself. She tries to warn the other witches of this, but is crushed and killed by them when they see her. A short time later they all start turning into mice.Initially, panic ensues when mice suddenly appear in the dining room, but soon both hotel staff

and guests are attacking and killing the rodents – unknowingly ridding England of its witches. The Grand High Witch herself is finally destroyed when Mr. Stringer, the hotel manager, chops her in two with a meat cleaver. One good witch, Miss Irvine, the Grand High Witch’s former put-upon assistant, comes to Luke and Helga’s house that night and uses her magic to restore him to human form, as well as returning his previously lost white mice. Seeing Miss Irvine outside, Luke shouts a reminder to her to also turn Bruno back into a human, to which Miss Irvine gives a reassuring smile before driving away. Her good deed also appears to change her fingers from clawed to human. With England’s children now safe from the threat of witches, Luke and Helga begin making plans to return to the United States to destroy the witches there. Feeling: This Roald Dahl classic tells the scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with some real-life witches! In fairy tales witches always wear silly black hats and black cloaks and they ride on broomsticks. However, this is not a fairy tale. This is about real witches. Real witches dress in ordinary clothes and look very much like ordinary women. They live in ordinary houses and they work in ordinary jobs. That is why they are so hard to catch. Witches hate children. With the help of a friend and his somewhat-magical grandmother, our hero tries to expose the witches before they dispose of him. I do not hope that there are real witches in the real world.

Summary: Judy, was sent to a school with the help of a tall man. The only requirement was Judy needed to write letters to this secret man every month, and she could never know who he was. Although the letters were written by Judy, we knew the school life of her. Comment: After reading this book, I think that Jean Webster was a brilliant writer because he wrote this story very dramatically. Through the letters of Judy, he could tell the readers about Judy’s school life. It was not the same as the other books, because this is the first time I saw a book that could only use letters to tell a story. Also, the ending was so sweet and I had never thought that Daddy-Long-Leg was Jervis Pendleton. I love the ending a lot. My favorite character I like in this book is the most secret people, Daddy-Long-Leg. Although he is quite strange, but when Judy felt sad or unhappy, he still can make Judy smile again. I learnt a lot from the main character, especially Daddy-Long-Leg. I have learnt giving is better than receiving. I think Daddy-Long-Leg helped Judy to go to school for study, he was happier than Judy.

Title: Robinson Crusoe

Author: Daniel Defoe

In this summer holiday, I’ve read a book called Robinson Crusoe, it was written by Daniel Defoe. Robinson Crusoe loved voyage very much. He often dreamt to go to sea. Although his mother and father did not want Robinson to go, his desire was so strong that he ignored their wishes. Robinson’s father said that God would not bless Robinson if he went to sea, and that he would be sorry he had ignored his father’s advice. A year later, Robinson ran off to sea for the first time. As soon as the ship was at sea, a storm started. Robinson thought that God was punishing him for ignoring his father’s advice. Robinson swore to God that, if he lived, he would never go to sea again. The next day, the sea grew clam and he was fined. When he got on the shore, he forgot the promise to God. And he went voyage again. This time, the ship was foundered, and Robinson alone had survived; all his companions were dead. He was on an island with nobody, and started his lonely life. He built his tent and a high, strong wooden fence, to protect him. He made bread and kept goats. He overcame many difficulties. Soon, he discovered there were savages on this island. The savages ate the bodies of their fellow-men. Four years later, Robinson rescued Friday, who was the prisoner of the savages. And Friday became Robinson’s servant. They lived together. Finally, they rescued the captain of a ship from the rebel leaders. Robinson’s journey for the thirty-five years was end. After reading this book, I sighed with emotion. I want to express admiration of Robinson. He was very clever and brave. He rescued Friday from savages and lived alone for about twenty-five years. He needed to find food by himself, build a safe tent to protect him. If I were him, I would not live as long as he did. I might die from wild animals’ attack, starvation or illness. When Robinson was in a miserable condition, he would read bible. It said ‘Call on me in the day of trouble, and I will deliver you, and you will praise me’. I think when we are in

miserable conditions, we should read bible and pray to God too. It is because God loves us and God will rescue us from difficulties. I highly recommend this book to my friends and classmates because this book is interesting and easy to read. I can learn a lot from it.

3B Name: Ho Ka Ming (11) Subject: Book Report Book Title: the Brave Little Tailor and Other Stories Have you ever met a boy no bigger than his mother’s thumb, a girl with very long hair, a foolish giant, a magic fish and a unicorn? The Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the writers of the story, have just brought me to meet them in the Brave Little Tailor and Other Stories. This book is a fairy tale. There are different stories in it. My favourite story is the Brave Little Tailor. This story is about a tailor who always wore a belt that said: SEVEN AT ONE BLOW! He lived like a king because he had killed two giants, and caught a unicorn and a boar. I like this story very much because it is interesting and easy to read. Also, it makes me very curious about what is the next step, especially how did the tailor kill and catch those horrible, enormous things. Moreover, this story told me that we should keep our promise. The character that I like most is the tailor. It is because he is clever and brave. When he faces some dangerous situations, he can solve them with confidence and calm brain. If you want to know how the tailor kills the giants, catch the unicorn and the boar, you must read the Brave Little Tailor and Other Stories. Lastly, Robert and Giselle had found each other as their true love and they lived happily ever after. Comment:

After reading this book, I think that the story is astonishing and the content is very funny. It is because the author joins the elements of fairy tale with the real life. The most unforgettable part is when Giselle and Robert struggled with Queen Narissa. They were so brave and did not think of their own safety. If I were them, I would not be brave enough to do that. My favourite character is Giselle. It is because she is very cute and always says something which you cannot imagine. I would recommend this book to you. It is just like watching a movie since there are dialogues and they help to make the characters realistic. They are just in front of you!

The butts are angry because they are always laughed at, smacked, kicked and regarded as figures of fun. They are being neglected by human. Thus, they work hard to make the revolution---- 'the greatest buttcano eruption' in order to knock out the human, and show that 'The Age of Butts' will begin. Zack plans to stop this revolution. Before he starts the adventure, Zack has invited the buttfighter--- 'B-team' for help. Of course, eventually, Zack and his butt find true happiness and work together again after they have realized their fault. Feelings: Have you ever imagined a 'butt' can be a main character in a story? It is innovative and funny, or in a negative way, you can say that is immature, crazy and dirty. However, I choose this book since I am a kid; I can accept this kind of story. Also, because of the stunning cover and the story's title. I am curious that how my butt go psycho. Isn't it a true story? Besides, I love the last part of this book--- 'Glossary'. It is a glossary with a lot of special 'butt' words. The definition of each word is in great detail and its out of my imagination, such as, buttcano, buttguard, buttgun, buttmobile, etc. I remember a word called 'tennis racket'. Don't think that the racket is just useful for playing tennis, it is also good for whacking butts! Therefore, this glossary helps the readers to understand the whole story easily.
