Health in India
• The Constitution of India
makes health in India the
responsibility of the state
governments, rather than the
central federal government. It
makes every state
responsible for "raising the
level of nutrition and
the standard of living of its
people and the improvement
of public health as among its
primary duties,"

system and the health status of
the people, especially those
who live in the rural areas.

infrastructure, improving and
expanding health services offered
by those institutions and
developing proper referral
system, particularly for mother &

Role of NGO in India
• Non-governmental
organizations have a
long history of active
involvement in the
promotion of human
well-being. In
particular, NGOs
provide important links
between the
community and
government.

Swami Vivekananda’s message
“So long as the millions live in hunger and
ignorance, I hold every man a traitor who,
having been educated at their expense, pays
not the least heed to them.”
“Teach yourselves, teach everyone his real
nature, call upon the sleeping soul and see
how it awakes. Power will come, glory will
come, goodness will come, purity will come,
and everything that is excellent will come
when this sleeping soul is roused to self-
conscious activity.”
“They alone live who live for others, the rest
are more dead than alive.”

Our Workforce
Our HR challengeYoung generations are reluctant to dedicate themselves in an unpaid voluntary service which
is leading to the graying of the organization. We need educated youths to spearhead our
mission to uplift India from the grassroots level not just an influx of retired people and
housewives.

VSSS Home Visit by CHG
From 1997, a very
important
milestone for
public health
development was
established in the
form “Home Visit
programme.” The
home visits are
made by the
trained Community

programme
brought excellent
results.

Uniqueness of VSSS
• Purely a voluntary organization and we maintain
the spirit of selfless sacrifice without any
financial incentive.
• We restrict our activities only to backward rural
areas and tribal belts.
• Though we begin with Health care service, we
soon start implementing the Integrated
Approach. We develop the chosen location to
self-sufficency through sustainable development
plan.
• Community Participation from the very first day
is our mantra and that makes the villages self
reliant and self developed.
• When project areas reach self-sufficiency, we
move on to new locations.
