The Behrakis Group’s princi-pals are Peter and Vicky, andDennis and Maria Behrakis.

Managing director Peter Beh-rakis said much of the effort inensuring the Group’s visionwas realised was the result of adedicated team involved in theconstruction and leasing of theCentre.

‘‘We really must recogniseand thank our wonderful teamof people who have worked sohard to ensure the developmentproceeded as smoothly as poss-ible over this time frame,’’ hesaid.

On behalf of the BehrakisGroup, Mr Behrakis thankedthe Apple Construction team

He thanked the Centre’sproperty manager Bill Blaik innegotiating the leases andworking seamlessly with theKnight Frank team of ScottNewton and Matthew Wright,to finalise retail leases withimportant international, natio-nal and local brands in theCentre.

‘‘The team has worked ex-tremely hard to find the righttenancy mix in a very difficultleasing period,’’ Mr Behrakissaid.

‘‘We engaged Knight Frankas it is the commercial propertyspecialist in Tasmania, and setthe company a very difficulttask of bringing a varied mix ofretailers to the Centre.

‘‘With the leasing and mar-

keting team, Knight Frank hassucceed beyond our expec-tations.

‘‘I would also like to payparticular thanks to theKingborough Council for itshelp in ensuring the smoothtransition of the project.

‘‘More importantly, I mustalso thank our existing tenantswho have had to endure workproceeding around them.

‘‘Our retailers are confidentthat the new development willenhance their existing busin-esses and have a very positiveoutlook for the future.

‘‘We are so pleased that thosetenants could see our dream ofdeveloping this magnificentCentre into what it is todayand while it may have beendifficult for them at times, theywill hopefully be able to reapthe rewards of a new, modernand exciting Centre for theregion.’’

FRESH IDEAS:Customers choose from the huge range of produce at Salamanca Fresh at Channel Court Shopping Centre.

Caring for communityTHE developers behind thenew Channel Court ShoppingCentre, the locally owned fam-ily company the BehrakisGroup, have an enduring andsignificant commitment toTasmania and the Tasmaniancommunity.

Apart from the major in-vestment of $100 million in theChannel Court ShoppingCentre since its purchase in2004, the Group’s directors,Peter and Vicky and Dennisand Maria Behrakis, also ownSalamanca Fresh located in

the Centre, as well as outletsin Salamanca Place and inDavey St, Hobart.

They also own the statewidevegetable wholesaler, SHVWholesalers.

The Behrakis Group has awell-established refrigeratedtransport business, Boomer-ang Transport Pty Ltd inHobart, which it began morethan 20 years ago as part ofthe diversification of SHV.

Apart from the employmentof 100 staff (sub-contractors forthe various trades, suppliers of

the range of building ma-terials) both directly and in-directly during the construc-tion of the Channel CourtCentre, the Behrakis Groupemploys 180 people in theseother ventures, providingwork and career opportunitiesfor the local community.

For example, between thevarious phases of the develop-ment of the Channel CourtShopping Centre, the Groupensured that its constructionworkforce was employed tobuild a housing development

of up to 18 town houses andunits at Kingston not far fromthe Channel Court ShoppingCentre.

At the same time, the com-pany, through Peter Behrakis,is a strong supporter of theHeart Foundation and theVariety Club in Tasmania.

It has a demonstrated com-mitment to the Kingboroughcommunity as a benefactor tothe community and schoolgroups, and through its ongo-ing support with theKingborough Council.

CHOICESGALORE:Channel Court will provide a range oflocal, national and international fashion brands.

THE vision of the BehrakisGroup, the developers of theChannel Court Shopping Centre,is to provide shoppers with adestination, and that is why itworked hard to get labels to theCentre that were not availableanywhere else in Tasmania.

The new Channel Court Shop-ping Centre is therefore de-lighted to announce that twonew retailers direct from theUnited States and Europe will bepart of the new development.

The Centre says the newoutlets offer a retail experiencethat Tasmania has never seen.

The retailers, 4evermen andB-young Fashion, will open atChannel Court Shopping Centrealong with Jeans West, Millers,

Om Nom, Prouds and Yeltuor, with more to come.

The Centre’s marketing man-ager Deborah Bollard said the4evermen and B-young storeswould be an attractive andsought-after destination for localshoppers and people from furth-er afield in the state.

‘‘Both stores are bringing freshand innovative fashion at afford-able prices, combined with agreat customer experience,’’ shesaid.

‘‘The 4evermen store featuresmen’s fashions and accessoriessourced directly from the USand Europe, alongside the store’sown stylishly curated collection.

‘‘4evermen will house cultbrands such as Lindbergh,

Jack’s, Shine Original and Bi-son. Shoppers will be amazed atthe range available.’’

Rather than only have fourseasons of fashion, the 4evermenGroup is able to bring on-trendfashion from Europe and the USto Tasmania more frequently.

‘‘Our customers have repeat-edly asked us for more fashion, both male and female, so as partof our strategic leasing plan weknew we had to get the mixright,’’ Ms Bollard said.

‘‘One of our new retailersknown locally and that is syn-onymous with fashion is Yel-tuor.

‘‘Yeltuor is a well-recognisedbrand in Tasmania and offersdiversity with the labels it car-

ries, again offering more for ourcustomers.’’

She said the centre would havea fantastic selection of men’s andwomen’s fashions, coupled withother specialist stores.

‘‘We are expanding our foodcourt with more dine-in andtake-away options, and alongwith important services and allin the one complex, it makes fora true retail experience,’’ MsBollard said. ‘‘We are offeringsomething quite different forTasmanian shoppers.

‘‘At the same time we areexcited to now bring our cus-tomers more diversity, not onlymore fashion but fashion thatcan’t be bought anywhere elsein Tasmania.’’
