    Mounting and Dismounting

    Use steps and handholds whenever you mountthe machine. Use steps and handholds wheneveryou dismount the machine. Before you mount themachine, clean the step and the handholds. Inspectthe step and handholds. Make all necessary repairs.

    Face the machine whenever you mount the machineand whenever you dismount the machine. Maintain athree-point contact with the step and with handholds.

    Note: Three-point contact can be two feet and onehand. Three-point contact can also be one foot andtwo hands.

    Do not mount a moving machine. Do not dismount amoving machine. Never jump off the machine. Donot try to mount the machine when you carry toolsor supplies. Do not try to dismount the machinewhen you are carrying tools or supplies. Use a hand

    line to pull equipment onto the platform. Do notuse any controls as handholds when you enter theoperator compartment or when you exit the operatorcompartment.

    Daily Inspection

    NOTICEAccumulated grease and oil on an engine is a fire haz-ard.

    Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high pres-sure water each time any significant quantity of oil (orotherfluid) is spilled on or near the engine.

    Wipe clean all fittings, caps and plugs before servic-ing.

    For maximum service life of the machine, performa thorough daily inspection before you mount the

    machine and before you start the engine.

    Perform the following procedures on a daily basis.

    Note: Watch closely for leaks. If you observe a leak,find the source of the leak and correct the leak. If yoususpect a leak or you observe a leak, check the fluidlevels more frequently.

    Inspect the attachment control linkage, attachmentcylinders, and attachment for damage or excessivewear. Make any necessary repairs.

    Inspect the lights for broken bulbs and for brokenlenses. Replace any broken bulbs and any brokenlenses.

    Inspect the engine compartment for any trashbuildup. Remove any trash buildup from the enginecompartment.

    Inspect the cooling system for any leaks, for faulty

    hoses and for any trash buildup. Correct any leaks.Remove any trash from the radiator.

    Inspect all of the belts for the engine attachments.Replace any belts that are worn, frayed, or broken.

    Inspectthe hydraulic system for leaks. Inspectthe tank, cylinder rod seals, hoses, tubes, plugs,connections, and fittings. Correct any leaks in thehydraulic system.

    Inspect thefinal drives for leaks. Make any necessaryrepairs.

    Inspect the swing drive for leaks.

    Make sure that all covers and guards are securely

    attached. Inspect the covers and the guards fordamage.

    Inspect the steps, the walkways, and the handholds.Clean the steps, the walkways, and the handholds.Make any necessary repairs.

    Inspect the operator compartment for trash buildup.Check for trash buildup under the floorplate and onthe crankcase guard. Keep these areas clean.

    Adjust the mirrors in order to achieve the best

    visibility.

    Alternate Exit

    Rear Window with Ring Seal (IfEquipped)

    (1) Ring(2) O-ring seal

    The rear window serves as an alternate exit.

    To remove the rear window, pull ring (1) and push

    out the glass.

    Completely remove O-ring seal (2) from the seal thatsupports the glazing support seal. This will provideenough clearance so that the seal can hinge and theglazing can pass outward.

    The rear window serves as an alternate exit. The rearwindow can be removed from the inside of the cab orfrom the outside of the cab.

    Note: When lock pin (3) is in the locked position(B), the rear window cannot be removed. When youoperate the machine, place lock pin (3) in unlockedposition (A).

    Removing Rear Window from the Inside

    1. Place lock pin (3) in unlocked position (A).

    2. Grip the lever (4). Fully turn the lever in thedirection of the arrow and push the rear windowoutward.

    2. Grip lever (4). Fully turn the lever in the directionof the arrow and pull backward in order to removethe window.

    Put the hydraulic lockout control in the LOCKEDposition. For further details on this procedure, referto Operation and Maintenance Manual, OperatorControls. Do this procedure before you adjust theseat and the console. This will prevent any possibilityof unexpected movement of the machine.

    Adjust the seat at the beginning of each work periodand adjust the seat when you change operators.

    Always use the seat belt when you operate themachine. For further details on this procedure, referto Operation and Maintenance Manual, Seat Belt.

    The seat should be adjusted so that full pedal travelis allowed.

    The operator can adjust the seat position forward orbackward. The operator may also adjust the seatback tilt. Select the desired position in order to allowfull pedal travel and full lever travel.

    The seat and theconsoles can also slide as one unit.

    To adjust the seat back tilt, move lever (1) and movethe seat back to the desired position.

    Pull up lever (2) in order to change the angle of theseat. Hold the seat in the desired position. Releasethe lever.

    Use handle (4) in order to adjust the height of theseat. Place the handle in the operating position.Turning the handle clockwise increases the heightof the seat. Turning the handle counterclockwisedecreases the height of the seat. If your machine isequipped with an air ride suspension, the seat will be

    equipped with a lever. Pull up the lever in order toraise the height of the seat. Push down on the leverin order to lower the seat. If the adjustment is correct,indicator (3) will turn green. If the indicator showsred, further adjustment is required.

    To adjust the seat forward or backward, pull up lever(5) and hold the lever. Move the seat to the desiredposition. To lock the seat in the selected position,release the lever.

    To move the seat, the left console, and the rightconsole forward or backward as one unit, pull uplever (6) and hold the lever. Hold the seat in thedesired position. Release the lever in order to lockthe seat, the left console, and the right console.

    To adjust the angle of the armrest, operate dial (7).A dial is on the bottom of each armrest. Place the

    armrests in the upright position when you enter themachine or when you exit the machine.

    The lumbar support is located in the back of the seat.Turn knob (8) (if equipped) counterclockwise in orderto increase the force of the lumbar support. In orderto decrease the lumbar support, continue to turn theknob counterclockwise.

    The height of the armrest can be adjusted. Squeezelever (9) in order to adjust the height of the armrest.Move the armrest upward or move the armrestdownward. Release the lever when the armrest is inthe desired position.

    The operator can adjust the height of headrest (ifequipped). To adjust the headrest, hold the headrestwith both hands. Move the headrest up and down.Release the headrest when the desired position isattained. The headrest will remain in the desiredposition.

    Seat Belt

    Note: This machine was equipped with a seat beltwhen the machine was shipped from Caterpillar.

    At the time of installation, the seat belt and theinstructions for installation of the seat belt meet theSAE J386 standards. See your Caterpillar dealer forall replacement parts.

    Always check the condition of the seat belt andthe condition of the mounting hardware before youoperate the machine.

    Seat Belt Adjustment forNon-Retractable Seat Belts

    Adjust both ends of the seat belt. The seat belt shouldbe snug but comfortable.

    2. To remove the slack in outer loop (1), rotate buckle(2). This will free the lock bar. This permits theseat belt to move through the buckle.

    3. Remove the slack from the outer belt loop bypulling on the buckle.

    4. Loosen the other half of the seat belt in the samemanner. If the seat belt does not fit snugly with thebuckle in the center, readjust the seat belt.

    Shortening the Seat Belt

    1. Fasten the seat belt. Pull out on the outer belt loopin order to tighten the seat belt.

    2. Adjust the other half of the seat belt in the samemanner.

    3. If the seat belt does not fit snugly with the bucklein the center, readjust the seat belt.

    Fastening The Seat Belt

    Fasten the seat belt catch (3) into the buckle (2).Make sure that the seat belt is placed low across the

    lap of the operator.

    Seat Belt Adjustment forRetractable Seat Belts

    Fastening The Seat Belt

    Pull seat belt (4) out of the retractor in a continuousmotion.

    Fasten seat belt catch (3) into buckle (2). Make surethat the seat belt is placed low across the lap of theoperator.

    The retractor will adjust the belt length and theretractor will lock in place. The comfort ride sleevewill allow the operator to have limited movement.

    Releasing The Seat Belt

    Push the release button on the buckle in order torelease the seat belt. The seat belt will automaticallyretract into the retractor.

    Extension of the Seat Belt

    When using retractable seat belts, do not use seatbelt extensions, or personal injury or death canresult.

    The retractor system may or may not lock up de-pending on the length of the extension and thesize of the person. If the retractor does not lockup, the seat belt will not retain the person.

    Longer, non-retractable seat belts and extensions forthe non-retractable seat belts are available.

    Caterpillar requires only non-retractable seat belts tobe used with a seat belt extension.

    Consult your Caterpillar dealer for longer seat beltsand for information on extending the seat belts.
