Dear Parishioners,

There is an appointed time for everything and a time for every affair under the heavens. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot the plant.

A time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. What advantage has the worker from his toil? I have considered the task which God has appointed for men to be busied about. God has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without men’s ever discovering

from beginning to end., the work which God has done. I recognized that there is nothing better than to be glad and to do well during life. For every man, moreover,

to eat and drink and enjoy the fruit of all his labor is a gift of God.

Ecclesiastes 3:1,2,6,9-13

This is one of my favorite scripture quotes and it is appropriate to use it to share this message with all of you. I have spent 18 wonderful and life-giving years here at St. Charles parish. Each one of them and each one of you have been great gifts from our God. It is time to move on to retirement which will take place at the end of June.

I do plan on remaining a member of the parish because I stand in awe of your deep faith and generosity.

You have gifted me over the years in so many ways. It has been such a privilege to have shared in your children’s Baptisms, First Eucharist, and Confirmations. I have been gifted to guide many of you over the years into becoming Catholic or completing your Sacraments through the RCIA/RCIC process. We have buried many of your loved ones. Each time I helped with a funeral, I thanked God for the witness in faith the deceased have been. I have visited you when you were sick and rejoiced when you returned to the fullness of health.

They have been joyful years. I will miss being a part of the staff, but know that it is “time.” As Sisters, we do not retire, but “recycle.” I will be busy helping my Mercy community.

With love and gratitude, I wish you peace.

First Communion Celebration Next Weekend (May 4 & 5)

The First Eucharist children, with the help of their parents and families, have been learning what it means to be a member of a Eucharistic community. Next weekend, they will be coming to the Table of the Lord for the first time at the 4:30, 9:30 and 11:30 Masses. It is truly a time of joy for them and for us, as we are all touched by sacramental celebrations. They remind us that we are part of the Body of Christ and that we share in this sacred meal. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers this coming week as they prepare for next weekend’s celebration.

Community Bikes will be this weekend’s Parish Sharing recipient.

During the month of May, a special month for the Blessed Mother, our tithing emphasis will be on mothers and children. Our tithing recipient for next weekend will be the Women's Care Center, a Catholic lay ministry located on Lake Avenue (by Charlotte Furniture). They provide counseling, self-administered pregnancy kits, a listening ear to all who come or call. They make referrals to doctors, service agencies, and also for post-abortion counseling. Chastity information is shared with unmarried clients who have a negative pregnancy test. WCC was formed in 1990. In 2011 they became affiliated with the American Life League. St. Charles has a long history of association with this ministry...baby showers, gifts from the giving tree, and more than $8,900 of parish sharing (in the last 15 years).

We Welcome You to St. Charles Borromeo Parish

Thank you for joining us. We are glad you have chosen to worship at St. Charles this weekend. Are you interested in becoming a member of the parish? If you need more information or would like to register, please call Mary Eggleston at 663-3230 x107 or contact her by e-mail at [email protected].

Even if you are unable to increase your financial pledge (or make a pledge), we are asking EVERYONE to return this Stewardship Commitment Card. The Parish Finance Council relies on the financial information to formulate next year's budget. The Parish Stewardship Committee reviews the information in the Time and Talent sections to help identify the many gifts and interests of our parishioners. Please return the commitment card in the enclosed return envelope or drop them in the collection basket during Mass as soon as possible.

It’s Not Too Late! Donate to This Worthy Cause and Help Our Priests & Seminarians

The $14 million campaign is a special diocese-wide initiative that seeks to meet two crucial needs: to provide excellent education and formation for the greatly increasing number of young men preparing to be priests and to provide our senior priests a secure retirement after their many years of selfless service. Currently, the funds available in the Priest Pension Fund and the Seminarian Formation Fund are insufficient to meet these needs...

To give, you can respond to the mailing you received; take part in this parish’s in-pew pledge weekend on (dates); or give securely online at www.dor.org.

Through your generosity, we can continue to serve the needs of our priests and seminarians, ensure a vibrant priesthood and pass on our rich heritage to future generations.
