Just this past Sunday, the 92nd Academy Awards winners were announced at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. These awards are given to individuals, movies and groups in 24 separate categories for excellence in cinematic achievement. Here were a few of the most highly acclaimed individual winners:

Best Actor Joaquin Phoenix (Joker). Actually, I really liked Jonathan Pryce in The Two Popes…but they didn’t ask me to vote!

Best Actress Rene Zellweger (Judy). Certainly deserving but she already has one. I would have gone with Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) but…again…they didn’t ask me.

Best Supporting Actor Brad Pitt (Once upon a time…in Hollywood). Finally!

Best Supporting Actress Laura Dern (Marriage Story)

Best Director Bong Joon Ho (Parasite)

These are all famous people…right? Getting that little gold statue is the achievement of a lifetime. You can add to this list of famous people those who win the Nobel Peace Prize, Cy Young Award and the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

You might remember who won some of these honors for a few months but who won them a year ago, two years ago, or more? You could bring together a group of people and collectively you would probably have a hard time coming up with a list of these “famous” people from just a year ago.

But let me ask you this question, “Who are five people who have made a difference in your life?” Absolutely every one of us could come up with that list in just moments: a parent, teacher, sibling, coach, pastor, friend, caregiver, etc.

None of us is going to win an Oscar, Nobel Prize, Cy Young Award or National Spelling Bee but YOU are on that list of people who make a difference in another person’s life. Parents and guardians talk to me about you and how very grateful they are for what you do for their loved one.

People ask me about what I do. I share with them the Marklund story and then say that I have the privilege to work with HEROES…and I mean that most sincerely!

God bless you!

Gil

Important Reminder:

Use of Resident photos on Social Media Marklund’s Social Media Policy prohibits the posting of resident/client/student photos on staff personal social media pages. “Pictures, videos, and/or audio of clients may not be used or transmitted (emailed, uploaded, posted, linked etc.) without approval from the Director of Marketing and Communications, unless already posted on a Marklund social media platform.”

We currently use a social media monitoring service to watch for both negative and positive mentions about the organization, and have seen personal posts by staff with our clients/residents/students. Please note: Do not worry! This service does not give us access to viewyour full page, but just flags any Marklund posts.

We appreciate your wanting to share information about fun moments that you have while you are at work.

So, please send your photos to the Marketing Department to postthem—then everyone can share it! You certainly may post photos of yourself at work, or with a co-worker, just do not include clients/ residents/students.

Thank you for helping to keep our guys protected!

What is Protected Health Information (PHI)?

Individually identifiable health information that is transmitted by electronic media, or transmitted or

maintained in any other form or medium.

The legal guardian(s) of each resident determine who we can share information with and what specific information we can share.

Please remember that Marklund staff are not allowed to share health information without these consents in place – law and

Marklund policy requires us to protect all residents’ private health information. While I know there can be health concerns

during flu season, employees should not discuss a resident’s health status with other employees, unless that employee needs to

know that information to do their job. All employees should be using universal precautions to ensure their personal health during

flu season and to ensure they do not spread any illness.

While at Marklund, you may inadvertently hear or see information concerning residents that falls under the definition of

protected health information. We ask that you help us maintain the dignity and privacy of all of our residents by not discussing

such health information of Marklund residents with anyone else.

If you have any concerns or questions about HIPAA, please feel free to contact me directly.
