The 3-Step Cure forPresentation Procrastination

Does your mind hit the brakes

when you open a PPT file?

Do you “repurpose” slides from other decks?

Do you consider ClipArt a friend or foe?

You’re not alone

In fact, there’s hope

Because if you can answer these 3

questions, you are well on your way

To creating an engaging and memorable presentation

Before we start, promise me one thing

“I will not start a PPT until I’ve answered 3 questions”

Thank you.

Now let’s begin. . .

#1 Do you know what your audience wants?

Remember, its about them.

Without an audience, you don’t have a presentation

So let’s explore this question

What problem does your

audience have that you

can fix?

Turn that answer into your introduction:

“I’m going to tell you how to reduce the time

you spend in PPT by 54%, and in the process,

your presentation will be 200% better.”

Now that you have your audience’s attention, how do you keep it?

#2Can you tell a story?

If you’re not sure,

this will get you started . . .

Explain the “why” and the “how”

of your solution to their problem:

Before/After

As is/Could Be

Problem/Solution

Contrast is intriguing, isn’t it?

Explaining what happened between

Point A and Point B

keeps your audience’s interest

And it gives you a storyboard (!)

#3 Can you support your messages

with visuals?

If your instinct is to search through ClipArt,

step away from the computer

(Remember, you promised no PPT yet)

Now imagine that you can’t use use words

Can you explain your story through pictures?

Draw. Sketch. Doodle.

Sketching makes it easier to come up with

an image, or decide whether a chart,

graph or diagram best supports your message

Then show these visuals with clarity

Now you’ve completed the hard part

By answering 3 questions, you’ve got an

introduction, a storyboard and visuals.

Open that PPT file

and finish it off

Let’s recap

#1Solve your audience’s problem

#2 Tell them a story

#3 Match visuals to messages

Now go after it

Win clients

Hold meetings that are worth their while

Make management proud

Even though we’re in Corporate America

You can still be a (Presentation) Rock Star.
