    Identifying sha pes ofgravestones

    Memoria lisa tion: Taking a c loser look at .

    On first glance cemetery headstones appear to be of many

    different types and styles yet when we take a closer look we find

    that the many hundreds of headstones in our cemeteries can be

    categorised into about 8 or 9 basic styles.

    1. Capped stone2. Stele3. Nameplate4. Coped stone or tablet5. Wall plaque6. Plaque7. Block8. Sculptured Cross9. Pedestal with surmount.

    This resource set is designed to support students who are

    investigating the changing fashions in the shapes of memorials in

    our cemeteries and goes with Activity 3a of the memorialisation

    unit.

    There are student recording sheets included at the end ofthe resource set.
