Dear Parents and Care Givers A reminder to parents and students that our Reading Breakfast Club has commenced for 2019. The Club runs from 7:45am to 8:15am every Monday and Tuesday morning across the year. Children are encouraged to come to the Student Services Room to read and enjoy some hot toast in a relaxed environment before the start of the school day. A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful volunteers from Gosnells Lions Club who supervise the Breakfast Program alongside our student services staff. The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence is Australias key anti-bullying event for schools and will be recognised for the 9th time across Australia on Friday 15 March. The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. All staff and students from Gosnells Primary School will be called upon to imagine a world free from bullying and sign a pledge to help end bullying in our community. Each classroom will use this pledge as the basis for a classroom door display on this day and we encourage parents to take a walk around our school at the end of the day to take in the fantastic work completed by our students. Gosnells Primary School is celebrating Science Week with a number of activities across the school between Monday 18 and Friday 22 March. Mrs Anthony and her committee have been busy putting together a program of events under the theme of Destination Moon: more missions, more science’. Students in Years 1 to 6 only have been invited to attend a Scitech Incursion during this week as well as prepare a display for our whole school STEAM Fair on Friday 22 March in the Undercover Area. It is definitely an exciting time to be a student at Gosnells Primary! Our Interschool Cricket Team will travel to Sutherlands Park on Thursday 21 March to represent our school at the annual SRSA T20 Blast School Cup. A boysand girlsteam, supervised by Mr Price, Miss Paskos and Miss Williams, have been selected, with an opportunity to progress to regional and then state finals if successful at this carnival. We wish them all the very best of luck. Did you know out of the 420 students currently attending Gosnells Primary School, 219 come from a home where Standard Australian English is not the main language spoken? Amongst these 219 students and their families, 54 different languages/dialects are spoken! Harmony Day will be celebrated at Gosnells Primary School on Thursday 28 and Friday, 29 March. This is an opportunity for our school to acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity of our community. All parents and carers of children with a language background other than English are invited to our annual Multicultural Morning Tea on Thursday 28 March. A major focus of this morning being how to support the speech and language development of children as well as finding out how to get involved around our school. Students, staff and parents are then encouraged to dress in the traditional costume of their home country at our assembly on Friday 29 March. Any students not able to dress in traditional costume are encouraged to wear Orange – the colour associated with Harmony Day. Finally, I would like to urge all fathers and father figures of children attending Gosnells Primary School to consider becoming involved in the upcoming Fathering Project Busy Bee at our school. The Busy Bee is an opportunity to spend quality time with your child, while doing something fantastic for our school! We are looking forward to making 6 new picnic tables and chairs available to students as a result of the partnership between Bunnings Maddington, Gosnells Men Shed, The Fathering Project and the Gosnells Primary School P&C. Numbers for this event are limited to 12 fathers and 12 children, so please complete the form later in this edition of the newsletter and return to the front office ASAP to secure your place.
