Dear Parents and Care Givers A reminder to parents and students that our Breakfast Club has commenced for 2020. The Club runs from 7:45am to 8:15am every morning across the school year. Children are encouraged to come to the Student Services Room to read and enjoy some hot toast in a relaxed environment before the start of the school day. A huge thank you goes out to the wonderful volunteers from Gosnells Lions Club who supervise the Breakfast Program on Monday and Tuesday mornings, as well as the wonderful paraprofessional staff who work alongside our student services team on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There are still a number of vacancies for our upcoming Fathering Project activity at Zone Bowling in Cannington on Thursday, 12 March. While not excluding all our amazing mums, aunties, grandmas and carers, we would love to see as many dads, granddads, father figures and significant males take part in this opportunity to create a lifelong memory with your child, have some fun, and meet other dads in our school community. Thanks to the financial backing of our P&C and The Fathering Project, each combination of Dad and 1 child, will only pay $20.00 to get 2 games, shoe hire, plus hotdog, curly fries and a drink. Please visit the School Administration office to register and pay the fee by Friday, 6 March. The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools and will be recognised for the 10th time across Australia on Friday, 20 March. The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. All staff and students from Gosnells Primary School will be called upon to imagine a world free from bullying and sign a pledge to help end bullying in our community. Each classroom will use this pledge as the basis for a classroom door display on this day and we encourage parents to take a walk around our school at the end of the day to take in the fantastic work completed by our students.
Our Interschool Cricket Team will travel to Sutherlands Park on Friday, 20 March to represent our school at the annual SRSA T20 Blast School Cup. A boys’ and girls’ team, supervised by Mr Price, Miss Paskos and Miss Williams, have been selected, with an opportunity to progress to regional and then state finals if successful at this carnival. We wish them all the very best of luck.
Did you know out of the 417 students currently attending Gosnells Primary School, 219 come from a home where Standard Australian English is not the main language spoken? Amongst these 219 students and their families, nearly 50 different languages/dialects are spoken! Harmony Day will be celebrated at Gosnells Primary School on Friday, 27 March. This is an opportunity for our school to acknowledge and celebrate the cultural diversity of our community. Students, staff and parents are encouraged to dress in the traditional costume of their home country at our assembly on this day. Any students not able to dress in traditional costume are encouraged to wear Orange – the colour associated with Harmony Day.

We are still looking for two parents to join our School Board for 2020. The School Board meet once a term to discuss all manner of policy, procedures and issues confronting the school and its community. If you can spare a couple of hours a term to engage in activities and discussions that are in the best interest of our students and enhance the education we are providing all children – I want to hear from you! We are looking for parents who have the necessary skills and a willingness to contribute to reviewing the key performance indicators in the School’s Business Plan, as well as planning for future success. The first meeting of the School Board in 2020 is set for Wednesday, 11 March at 5pm. Regards
Craig

P&C AGM (Annual General Meeting) It’s that time of the year! The AGM (Annual General Meeting) of the P&C (Parents and Citizens Association) will be held on Wednesday, 18 March at 8:30am in the School Boardroom. All positions become vacant and office bearers must be filled for the P&C to continue. That means President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer positions MUST be filled. The P&C run the canteen and uniform shop as well as raise funds for the benefit of the children of this school. Last year we paid for the picnic tables that the children sit at to eat their lunches. That is just one example of many contributions the P&C have made over the years. There are lots of jobs big and small, but all are important. Maybe you can write the newsletter item, or be on a committee, or come to a meeting once a term or maybe even be President! Uniform Shop Graduation Shirts for Year 6 students have now been ordered. We will inform parents when they arrive. Remember, you can order uniforms online at quickcliq.com.au We are CASH ONLY at the shop on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (8:15am to 9:00am). Fundraising We will be having an Easter Raffle and are kindly asking for donations. We will have a box in the school office as of Monday, 9 March for dropping off donations.
Saturday, 28 March we will be running a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at Maddington. We will need people to volunteer for a shift on the day. We will have a sign up sheet soon at the canteen.
Thank you Karen Schokker P&C President
