A second-generation native of Florida, I was born in Jacksonville on March 7, 1924. I waseducated in the public schools of Florida and, briefly, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Inpreparation for my working career, I took several vocational courses and have recently attendedcomputer classes in Lake County.

My son and daughter both teach school. My son is on the faculty of Stetson University, DeLand, where he teaches corporate finance. My daughter is a sixth-grade teacher of mathematics andscience in Tampa. I have four grandchildren and three great grandchildren-all brilliant, ofcourse!

I am retired from the Insurance Company of North America (now better known as CIGNA) aftertwenty-four years' service. My employment with INA began in January, 1955, at the opening oftheir Tampa Service Office. As a clerk-typist, I took dictation in shorthand and transcribedEdiphone dictation. I later served as secretary to the commercial manager and in 1972 waspromoted to commercial underwriter, the position I held at retirement 3/31179.

For ten years, I was a member of Flotilla 79, U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Tampa. I am a pastmember of Sweet Adelines, Inc. and ofInternational 99s, an organization of women pilots datingback to 1929, when Amelia Earhart was elected their first president. Current membershipsinclude First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg (sing in the choir), Friends In A Chord (women'sbarbershop chorus at Plantation), The Retired Officers Association (thanks to my late husband'sArmy service), AARP Chapter 1775, and an associate of Davis Islands Yacht Club, Tampa. InHawthorne, I participate in the following activities: Book Review (secretary), Brown Bag,Charlie's Angels, Chorus (music librarian), Club Hawthorne Council (council officer for musicalactivities), Concert Series, Entertainment Group (nominating committee 1999), Free Spirits,Investors Group, Kitchen Band, Hawthorne Players, Line Dancing, Nature Club, Organ Club,Other States Club, Singles, and Zone 17 (co-captain). I also volunteer as an "Earth Angel" forAngel Flight Southeast, based at Leesburg Airport.

My election to the Board of Directors of Hawthorne Residents Cooperative Association, Inc.,would afford me the opportunity to give something back to this community, which has been sucha blessing to me during the seven years of my residence. If elected, I will do my utmost torepresent the membership fairly and honestly in the perpetuation of this way of life we cherishand will pledge my time and talents to that end.
