    2KVA Generator Specs

    1. INTRODUCTIONThis solution is to be used on low power consumption out door base stations

    System componentsA standalone solar system is a system with solar panels as the only source of energy for thesystem. Because they can only harvest energy during the day, they have to harvest enoughenergy to power the load even at night.

    The batteries are used as the storage for the energy to be used at night. For those times when the weather is cloudy, batteries will also be there to give a

    prolonged runtime even though there is no sunlight. the batteries need to stay fully charged so the solar panels should be designed to

    harvest more energy than required by the system load so as to use some toprogressively recharge the batteries until they are full. Without that once the batteriesare discharged they will never be fully recharged and will consequently die prematurely.

    The proposed solar system shall consist of the following major components:

    Solar array - This is an array of solar panels. These are responsible for converting solar energyfrom the sun into electricity. This electricity is then used to both charge the batteries and supplypower to the sites equipment.

    Solar charge controller - The power output from the solar array fluctuates with light intensityand this entails some form of regulation to make sure the system batteries are properly chargedregardless of those fluctuations. A solar charge controller is responsible for that function.

    Battery bank Since the system is a backup system some form of energy storage is needed toenable powering the system in the absence of enough sunlight. This is the function of thebattery bank. By charging the batteries, the solar charge controller will be storing energy for use

    at times when there is sunlight.

    2.2 SYSTEM DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

    The proposed solar backup solution should have the following operating specifications:

    The solar array should cultivate enough energy to power the 2KVA load for 24hrs and also torecharge the extra batteries which are there for more than 24hrs autonomy.

    Three days of autonomy to be designed as the system battery bank capacity. This meanswhen the batteries are fully charged and becomes overcast for three consecutive days with

    the batteries fully charged , the site can run for 3 days on batteries alone.

    MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) Solar Charge controllers to be used as the systemsolar charge regulators to maximise solar power harvest into the batteries especially duringcold weathers.

    A site monitoring and management system can also be proposed for the system. Thesystem is able to monitor the power, environment, security among other functions. It hasthe capability to provide email and sms alerts of the events occurring at the site. It shouldalso has local storage of logs for future analysis. Most importantly you can log into the

    system and check the status of things over a secure internet connection.
