ST. REGIS STEWARDSHIP CORNER There are a number of Bible verses Christians have mem-orized. One of them is in Saint Paul’s letter to the Philip-pians found in this weekend’s second reading: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (4:13). Most people define themselves either by their problems or their possibilities. Fearful people wake up each morn-ing ensnared by their problems. Christian stewards wake up reflecting on their possibilities with confidence and hope. Some stewardship reflection questions for the week: What challenges do you back away from because you doubt that you are up to them? What would you at-tempt tomorrow if you were sure God would help you?

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Thank you for your generous support in last week’s Pe-ter’s Pence Collection! Our contributions will be com-bined with those from our brothers and sisters around the world to help Pope Francis provide essential relief to peo-ple in need, If you missed the collection, it is not too late to give. Visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY St Regis is looking for drivers to take elderly/disabled parishioners to doctor appointments, mass and other trips in the local area. It is presumed that each driver will just be called upon occasionally rather than regularly. If you would like to help with this ministry or have questions, contact Colleen at the parish office (816) 761-1608. Thank you for your consideration for this important min-istry.

STOCKS & SECURITIES Have you thought about donating stock or securities? More and more Catholics are responding to the idea of giving a gift that perpetuates our Catholic faith. Through your gift you will help build an active and faith-filled Church that is able to pass on our Catholic faith to future generations. Donating publicly traded appreciated stock or mutual fund shares is a strategic gift-planning method. The donated value may be deductible up to 30% of your adjusted gross income and can be car r ied over for up to five years. Capital gains tax will not be assessed. Con-tact parish staff with questions about planned gifts both now and in the future.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY COLLECTION Next weekend we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world’s most vulnerable communi-ties. Please keep the Pope’s missions in your prayers and be generous in next week’s collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

CONFIRMATION NEWS Any High School student who has not previously been Confirmed are invited to join us for our next set of Con-firmation classes. Students will start with a retreat on Saturday October 17th from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm. Par-ents will need to attend the parent meeting on Sunday October 11th at 5 pm in the Mary’s Room. Please call the Parish Office if you have any questions.

FAMILY PICNIC All families are invited to a Family Picnic on Sunday, October 18, 2020. This will take place after the 10:30am Mass on the Football Field. It is Bring Your Own Picnic, so please bring a picnic for your family to have along with blankets or lawn chairs to sit on the field. There will be activities for kids to play while still remaining distanced! This is a time for fellowship to en-joy God's creation and the community He has given us at St. Regis Parish! Please contact Adri-anna Limon at [email protected] with any questions!

SCHOOL NEWS Vision By the Grace of God, St. Regis Academy seeks to be a locally recognized leader in graduating young men and women who are spiritually and academically prepared for a lifetime of discipleship. Mission St. Regis Academy in partnership with parents, as the pri-mary educators of their children, seeks to provide a Cath-olic Classical Liberal Arts Education centered on Christ. We seek to cultivate an environment that fosters a stu-dent’s natural desire for Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. St. Regis Academy prepares students to think critically, rea-son logically, articulate clearly, and engage others persua-sively. Our enrollment includes racial, ethnic, and eco-nomic diversity within the Body of Christ, providing a wealth of opportunity for students to grow in virtue by pursuing spiritual, emotional, and academic excellence.

MAURA NEWS

Meet St. Regis Educational Endow-ment recipient: Brenda Yanery Leiva Recinos DOB: April 3, 2002(18).

Brenda attends Dr. Andres Bello Uni-versity. She is in her second year of studying for a degree in Nursing. She is projected to graduate in December of 2025. She lives with her mother, Maria (39), a homemaker and her younger brother, Sebastian (9) grade 3.

“The impact this scholarship has had on my life is that, through the many retreats with other students, I under-stand the importance of teamwork and knowing how to interact with others. I learned many things that have made me reflect on my life and become more sure of my-self.

My plans are to graduate with a nursing degree and find a job to be able to put into practice everything I’ve learned during the six years. I want to be an example of overcoming adversity for my little brother and all the other young people. Also I want to help my mother, as she is the one who has always been at my side, support-ing me through everything. I would like to study for a doctorate in Medicine.

I want to start a foundation that helps people with scarce economic resources. I want to be able to support other young people in the future to overcome their obstacles so I can pay back a little of the support I have received. This is a dream that I want to achieve and for this, day after day, I work to achieve this goal.”

Please keep Brenda in your prayers.
