From the Principal

CORE PRIORITIES: Literacy Teaching School Culture VALUE : Every child matters every day!

Hello families,

We are right into the swing of our routine the term. Thank you for your continued support

throughout the school year. Please find attached two new additions to our fortnightly Newsletter.

The first being our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) updates to strengthen the partnerships

between school and home. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework

that promotes positive behaviour across a school and helps schools develop safe and supportive

learning environments.

Schools which implement the PBL framework make sure all students are explicitly taught the

expected behaviours and establish clear and consistent boundaries. Staff take a proactive,

preventative approach to ensure all students receive the appropriate level of support to help them

to be successful at school. Student outcomes are monitored so identified students can receive

additional support when needed, and a minority of students can access intensive support to

enable them to engage successfully at school.

The other new addition to our newsletter is a P&C communication segment contributed by our

P&C executive team. The objectives of the Association are to promote the interests of, and

facilitate the development and further improvement of the School, for example, by promoting

parent participation and encouraging collaboration between parents, students, school

communities and non-government entities to foster a commitment to achieving the best

educational outcomes for children and young people.

School Uniforms

Please ensure your child is wearing their full school uniform to school each day, including

appropriate footwear and black winter attire. We are starting to see an increase in students

wearing coloured shorts, skirts, caps and jewellery that are not part of the school uniform.

Students are required to wear a sun safe school bucket hat every day for outdoor play and PE

lessons. School uniforms and hats can be purchased from the office from Tuesday to Friday each

week. Please label all items clearly for ease of return if lost.

Interschool Sport - Netball

Our year 5 and 6 students are very excited that we have nominated a Port Curtis Road State

School Netball team in 2020! Yellow notes went home with students last Friday that were to be

returned today. If you have not returned your child’s permission form please do so ASAP. All

students need to be dressed in full school uniform to participate.

Parade

Parade will continue to be held on Mondays at 2:40pm during Term 3. Parents with students

receiving a classroom award will be able to attend with physical distancing measures and hand

sanitising measures in place.

School Drop Off and Pick Up

At this stage we are continuing with Term 2 procedures for school drop off and pick up. To

maintain physical distance measures and minimise of students and adults within the school we

are keeping adults accessing to the school grounds to a minimum.

Porty PBL

News

At Port Curtis Road State School, we support students to be life-long learners with the provision of a safe, engaging, challenging learning environment for all students to strive to their full potential. Success is underpinned by our values of Play the Game, Commitment and Respect – every child matters every day. Porty’s Positive Behaviour for Learning Program aims to focus on the positive behaviours of students to engage them in learning and to create a positive and safe learning environment in which students are aware of and follow our school expectations of We are SAFE, We are RESPONSIBLE, We are RESPECTFUL and We are LEARNERS. From week 3, weekly PBL lessons will be formally timetabled to ensure all students have learning experiences to grow their social and emotional skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.

Last term the students were busy drawing and creating our PBL Bull Mascots. Congratulations to our successful

students. Now to name our bull mascots…

The PBL team are currently organising a new positive rewards system that encompasses the school PBL expectations.

Stay tunned….

WE NEED YOU! Thank you to the parents that have expressed an interest to join our PBL team. In case some parents

did not see the expressions of interest and to allow everyone the same opportunity, we would like to see if there were

any other parents interested. Detail below outline what is required.

As a parent representative you are asked to attend a monthly afternoon meeting (which are held on a Tuesday), report

progress and feedback to parents and the community, organise feedback from parents and the community and help

organise family/community events.

We really value input from our community to help us to evaluate and refine our Positive Behaviour for Learning journey.

Hi and welcome to our P&C News page in the newsletter. We hope to be able to keep our parents up to date

with what is happening in the P&C Association.

Our TREASURER POSITION is up for grabs as our amazing Hayleigh Vidler has resigned. Thank you so

much to Hayleigh Vidler for all that you have done for us at our amazing school.

The Tresurer position role includes having overall re sponsibility for the financial management of the

association, including all subcommittee accounts. In this role you must comply with the Accounting

Manual for P&C Associations in all respects, you also prepare a budget and operational plan for the

executive committee. The treasurer’s responsibility is to keep accurate accounts of receipts and

expenditure and undertake banking as required. If you are interested please come see myself or

Deb or Ellen in the office.

The Pie Drive orders will be ready to collect at 3pm Wednesday afternoon. Please remember social

distancing of 1.5 metres. Thank you to everybody who ordered pies and lamingtons, an awesome

job—we raised $1,000.

At the last P&C Meeting it was decided that we would not go ahead with our 145th celebration with the

problems with the sphere and with COVID-19 around. Following this cancellation, we are going to work on

out 150th anniversary in 2025.

Please find attached tickets for the Thermomix Raffle. Tickets are limited to 250 and are $20 each. More

tickets are available at the office should you require them.

From your president

School Banking is a great way to practice regular savings. Remember, THURSDAY is School Banking day and students can bring in

their weekly deposit.

Saving regularly is an important habit to get into, whether you're saving

a little or a lot. Remember, there is no minimum deposit with School

Banking, you can send as little as 5c per week in, saving regularly is

what is important.

For every deposit made at school, students will receive a Dollarmites token. Once students have

individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in

recognition of their regular savings habits.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers

Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which

is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.

If your child has lost their book, please contact your School Banking Co-ordinator for a replacement or

visit any Commonwealth Bank branch.

Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Port Curtis Road State School We would also

like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co-ordinators and process our

banking every week.

School photos are almost upon us again! Every student will be photographed regardless of whether you are purchasing or

not.

Your child will bring home a personalised order envelope from the photographer today with the newsletter. You will have

the option to order online or with cash in your student’s envelope. Additional order envelopes are available from the

school office for separated parents, blended families and grandparents. Sibling photo envelopes are available from the

office also.

As school staff are unable to help with photography enquiries or payments, please direct your questions and comments

directly to MSP Photography by phoning 4921 3355.

Thank you for your co-operation and we look forward to a great photo day.

Keep Smiling!
