PASTOR’S COLUMN: We just celebrated Thanksgiving Day in the US and Canada. Do you know the favor of the Lord? Every 50 years the people of Israel were commanded to celebrate a Year of Jubilee - a year of favor by the Lord (Leviticus 25:10-12). God did not want his people to forget all the blessings and favors he had shown them over the years. Isaiah prophesied in a year of Jubilee that God would send his anointed one to bring his people back from their time of exile (Isaiah 61). The anointed one would bring good news (the same word as "gospel") - news of freedom for those who were oppressed by sin, dark-ness, despair, and brokenness (Isaiah 61:1-2). When John the Baptist announced the imminent coming of God's Anointed One, the Messiah, the religious leaders questioned his authority to speak so boldly in God's name. They asked him bluntly, "Who are you?" and "What do you say about yourself?" John had no doubt and no mistaken identity about his call and mis-sion. In all humility and sincerity he said he was only a voice bidding people to get ready for the arrival of the Messiah. John's identity and our identity is derived from God's Son - Jesus Christ. Like John the Baptist do you point others to Jesus Christ by the example and witness of your life?

<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< +++><> ><> ><> ><> ><> If I may be so bold; I know some people are hurting financially as a result of this Covid Pandemic. I know many of our seasonal visitors (especially those from Canada) will not be here for the (winter) season. Right now, having Mass outside under the school pavilion and even in the drive way, we have to stay under 100 people! Because of this, our Sunday collections are very low and the parish is hurting financially. I do want to thank all of you who are mailing in your envelopes and offerings or are making contributions through “On Line Giving”. I thank you for your financial support of the parish. If I may be so bold; Christmas is coming! For all who are able and so inclined, could you/ would you be so kind as to donate for Christmas, what you think you can to financially support your parish in this time of need. Thank You! GENTLE THOUGHTS; Does anyone know how long toilet paper will last if you freeze it? Apparently it is only appropriate to say; “Look at you! You got so big!” to children. Adults tend to get offended. Wife; “Did I get fat during the quarantine?” Husband; “You weren’t really skinny to begin with!” Time of death; 11:00 PM Cause of Death; Covid I just paid for a 12 month gym membership. My bank called to see if my credit card was stolen. Whatever you are doing today do it with the confidence of a 4 year old in a Batman Tee shirt!

Apostolic Penitentiary Note

The Apostolic Penitentiary in its note has determined that “the cases of grave necessity” envisaged by Canon Law 961 apply today “especially in places that are most affected by the pandemic contagion, and last until the [Covid-19] phenomenon has ended.” It added that “any further specific determination” regarding general absolution “is assigned by law to the diocesan bishops, always taking account of the supreme good of the salvation of souls.”

First, we examine our conscious, then pray an act of contrition "out of love for God." Being sorry out of love for God has often been described as having a desire to be reunited to God because of who he is―because of God's perfect love for us, and be-cause of sorrow for having offended God by sin. It means wanting to live in unity with God, and to put aside the sins that stand in the way. There is no set formula for making an act of contrition, but a com-mon one reads as follows:

“My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You, whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.”

Second, a Catholic must make a firm commitment to go to confession when that becomes possible. An act of perfect contrition is not a replacement for the sac-rament of penance―far from it.

The sacrament of penance remains the sole, ordi-nary means for the forgiveness of mortal sins after baptism. Contrition is about conversion, which means turning away from attachment to sin, and turning toward the sacraments.

Pope Francis encouraged Catholics confined to their homes to ask God for forgiveness and then to go to confession when they are able.

“You do what the Catechism says. It is very clear: if you do not find a priest to hear your confession, speak to God, he is your father, and tell him the truth.... Promise him: ‘Later I will confess, but forgive me now.’ And immediately you will return to the grace of God,” Pope Francis said.

FEAST OF FAITH The Shape of the Mass In the renewal of the liturgy that followed the Second Vatican Council, the full, conscious, and active participation of the assembly was the primary consideration. By participation, the Council Fathers did not mean just joining in the singing and the spoken responses, but active engagement and prayerful understanding of the rites. They envisioned a transparent liturgy, a worship that spoke so directly to the hearts and minds of the faithful that it would require no explanation at all. The liturgy itself is the best possible catechesis on the liturgy. What does the liturgy teach us? It shows us the ministry of Jesus continuing in the present. He gathers a community. He calls us to prayer and repentance and praise. He teaches us with the very word of God. He does not send us away empty, but sets before us a marvelous banquet, feeding us with his very body and blood. Then he sends us forth to do what he has done—to give ourselves for others, not just in words, but in deeds. The Mass is the pattern of our Christian lives. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

—Miguel Arias, Copyright © J. S. SPIRIT OF PRAYER

How do you know someone is your friend? There are lots of ways to know, aren’t there? A friend will smile at you when you meet, and a friend says good things about you to others. But one of the most important ways we know when we have a friend is also the most obvious: A friend wants to spend time with you. The love God has for us is very special because God is always “spending time” with us. There is never a moment when we are not in God’s life. This sharing of God’s life, which we often call “grace,” is a gift to us. It’s a gift without any strings; that is, God gives grace freely. How then do we show we are grateful for this gift? How does God know that we, too, want to spend time together, that we want to be true friends? We spend time with God when we pray. Praying is our response to God’s love. Sometimes we thank God for all we have received. Other times we have problems or concerns, so we ask God for help. Prayer can grow so strong in us that we can’t help but talk to God and praise God for all that is. And sometimes we know we are lost, that we have gone wrong or done evil, and then our prayer rises from an aching heart that whispers, “I’m so sorry” Praying can be lots of different things. We can pray alone in our room or outside on a walk. We can use formal prayers that someone else has written or we can just listen. We can pray together with others. There are lots of times when we pray with our family, our classmates, our Church. The most special of these community prayers is Eucharist. Eucharist is one of the seven sacra-ments. We do Eucharist in memory of Jesus. We take bread and wine, just as he did with his disciples, and ask God’s Spirit to come and make them into the Body and Blood of Jesus. And when we come forward and receive Communion at Mass, we, too, become the Body of Jesus. This prayer is so important that we gather every week to celebrate it together. The Sacrament of the Eucharist is our food for life in Jesus. Prayer is important and there are many ways to pray. Do you have a favorite way to spend time with God? Ask the Holy Spirit to be your helper each time you try to pray. You may be surprised at how happy God will be to be your true friend.

Muchas Gracias!!!
