    General information, personal experience

    UK:

    The United Kingdom consists of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland. The

    capital of the: UK and England is London; Wales is Cardiff; Scotland is Edinburgh; Northern Ireland is

    Belfast. Its population is about sixty million. The United Kingdom is a parliamentary democracy withhereditary monarchy, meaning that there is a monarch but the effective power belongs to the government,

    which is part of parliament and responsible to it but also normally dominates it. The most important posts

    are those of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, President of the Privy Council, Leader of the

    House of Commons, Home Secretary, Foreign Secretary, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Minister of

    Defence and Lord Chancellor. The present monarch is Elizabeth II who belongs to the House of Windsor

    and has been the monarch for... years. The main religions are The Anglican Church, Roman Catholicism,

    and the number of Muslims is increasing due to immigrants.

    USA:

    The United States of America consist of fifty-two states, and its capital is Washington DC. It is a federal

    territory which was established in 1790. The major cities are New York, which is the most popular one,

    Los Angeles, where you can find Hollywood (the centre of US television and film industry), and Chicago

    an important industrial city. Another really famous city is Las Vegas, which is famous for its casinos,

    bars, quick marriages, cheap prices and its neon-lighted resort hotels. The population of the USA is about

    two hundred and ninety million. The United States is a federal presidential republic. The executive power

    lies in the hands of the president and the cabinet. Legislative power is allocated to the House of

    Representatives, usually called the Congress, and the Senate. Judicial power belongs to the Supreme

    Court and other federal courts. The president is elected every four years, and Obama has recently won the

    elections for the second time. The largest religions in the USA are Protestants, followed by Roman

    Catholic and Jews.
