“In Tune with 25-E1”

It seems like only yesterday that I was writing the article for my first Newsletter and now I am writing this article for my last month of being your Governor, the last Governor for District E1. It has been an honor to work with all of you. Because of all of the hard work of the Lions in this District, our last year as District E1 has been quite successful.

First of all I would like to thank PDG Vern Tincher and PCC Linda along with PCC Richard Halladay and DGE Mollie Brown for overseeing the redistricting process which has gone smoothly and is completed. Another big thanks goes to DGE Mollie for being so encouraging this year and to PCC Linda Tincher for doing such a GREAT job as Newsletter Editor and making sure the secretary’s get their reports in on time. Lion Sandy Ruane has made our page in the Hoosier Lion one of the best. VDGE Jeff Schafer has always kept us up to date on the Web Page. PDG Jim Brown has done a fine job as my Cabinet Secretary. There is not enough space to name everyone individually but please know I appreciate all of the Project Trustees, Region Chairs, Zone Chairs, and all of the Club Officers around the district. And to every Lion in 25E1, thank you so much for your participation, for your willingness to reach out to others in need. Because of all of you, our last year as District E1 has turned out GREAT!!!

We are looking forward to working with many of you as we continue on, In a World of Service. It has been a privilege to serve as Governor under the leadership of International President Wayne Madden from Auburn, In.

PDG Vern Tincher has been working hard on trying to establish a new Club in Dugger, In. We are excited and looking forward to the Charter Night that will be announced in the near future. PDG Vern and PCC Linda are always ready to serve. Lions Glynn Wills and Ed Hayes will be the Guiding Lions.

Last but not least I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to my husband PDG Gary Lawson for always being willing to help me in any way to make my year go smoothly. We have enjoyed the road trips to visit all of you. DG-Elect Mollie

Congratulations to all for this very impressive Lion’s Year. Many projects, community services, fund-raisers, and meetings are in the books for the last year of our dear E1. We will very likely add a club before year’s end. And, we shall end the year with a double digit increase in members even before the new club joins us. Thank you to all for your efforts in serving others as well as keeping our clubs healthy.

Congratulations to all who have answered the call and are taking positions as Club Officers, Zone and Region Chairs, and district jobs.

May the returns on your efforts be always greater than what you have given and may you enjoy many more rewarding Lions’ years.

Yours in Lionism, Lion Mollie

Hello Lions:

Well May 2013 is in the books and another perfect month for our Club Secretaries

submitting their monthly membership reports (MMRs)! Great Job! In addition, we were

the only district in Indiana that had all of our PU-101 (Election Reports) submitted on

time! This shows that our club secretaries in district 25-E1 really take their job

seriously. One more perfect month for our district and we’ll be 48 straight months in

100% submittal of our MMRs. Keep up the GREAT work!

If you did not get a chance to attend the State Convention in Fort Wayne, you missed a

really good one. Next year’s event may be a little closer to some of you in Columbus,

Indiana. I hope you can attend. I had a chance to present a Melvin Jones Fellow to

Lion Larry Scott from the Terre Haute club for his many years of service to Lionism and

to his community. Additionally, I’ll be presenting an “in memory” Melvin Jones

Fellowship to Mrs. Rose Floyd on behalf of Lion Max Floyd from the Bloomfield Lions

Club for his many years of dedication during their June meeting. Finally, a few of the

Lions from Bloomfield handed out 110 dictionaries to the 4th graders at the Eastern

Greene County School. We had a wonderful time talking with the children and seeing

a gleam in their eyes when they discovered the longest word in the English language

was 1,909 words long!

I would like to encourage all the new officers (to include Region & Zone Chairs) to

attend training being conducted in either the new MD 25C or MD 25E. Details will be

in the newsletter, by emails, or you can find the information on our website

(www.lions25e1.org). Finally, MD 25E new website will be www.lions25e.org starting

July 1.

Until next month – Serve and Have Fun! Lion Jeff 2nd VDG

Shoals Lions Club purchased a new banner to honor Veterans this Memorial Day.

Around the District News

New Members at Pershing Township Lions Club! Ervin and Linda Morris were inducted by PDG Bob Kamman from Seymour Evening Lions.

Main Street Seymour puts on a Lawn and Garden event every Spring and

Seymour Evening Lions has a booth…pictured in front is Lion Larry Hendley,

seated (left) is Lion Gene Kruse and in the tent is Lion Ruel West.

PDG Bob Kamman strums his broom guitar while DG-Mollie prepares a sign for the brooms where the witch’s hat rests that says – “Cheap Transportation”…I wonder if anyone ever thought about sweeping the floor with the brooms………

Mitchell Lions were honored with a

plaque for sponsoring youth baseball in

Mitchell for 60 Years!...Good Job Mitchell

Lions! The Mitchell club pictured right

had just had a Law Camp program given

to them by PCC Linda Tincher and were

voting to send a child to camp…Mitchell

Lions strive to help the youth in their

area.

The Bloomington Lions donated and served Chili at the Homeward Bound Walk on Sunday April 14th. Shown in the picture, L to R, are Lion Charlotte Brashaber, Lion Ken Brashaber and Lion Dale Hepfer.

Terre Haute Lions presents Lion Larry Scott with a Melvin Jones Fellow. Left, Larry’s wife proudly places his MJF pin on his shirt. On hand for the presentation were PCC Linda Tincher, 1st VDG-elect Jeff Schafer and behind Larry in the picture, President Rodney Frakes.

Officer Training at Riley Lions Club….

A great turnout was had at the recent Officer Training, both rooms at the club house were utilized…pictured left are Presidents and Vice Presidents which were instructed by PDG Sara Provines…It is important for VPs to understand what the Presidents do, as they are the club’s back-up person. Often clubs do not have any specific duties for the VP, but if the President cannot be there the VP must be able to carry on! Presidents must also know Secretary duties as their passwords do the same thing – so next time a training is offered VPs and Presidents should sit in on Secretary training!

New 25C & 25E Dues As of July 1, 2013 – the beginning of the Lions Year

For Clubs going to New 25C: Individual Membership for the Year will be $61.00 Family Plan (2 people yearly) will be $100.50 For Clubs going to the New 25E: individual Yearly Dues will be $61.75 Family Plan will be 101.25

The difference in figures has to do with each district having minor differences in District Funds.

Remember International bills for half on July 1 and half on Jan 1 and payment is due upon receipt.

State and District are billed by the District Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer and should arrive to the Club Secretary at approximately the same time…. Both International & State and district only bill half a year at a time.

In order to have the money collected by Jan 1 and July 1, Cabinet Secretaries/Treasurers should bill club members a month prior so payments can be in the bank on the first of the month!

*Please note: Dues varies slightly from district to district within the state because each district may assesses slightly different fees to meet that district’s needs.

2013 Lions State Convention – Ft. Wayne, IND 25-E1’s “Unsinkable DG-E Mollie Brown” chaired the 2nd Business session at the convention and did a fine job filling in for DG Brenda Lawson who became ill during the convention.

There was as lots to do at the convention but the hospitality rooms were the best ever! The hallways were full of Lions both Friday and Saturday night roaming the halls of the Hilton Hotel, visiting, laughing and just having fun.

25E1 also did well in the Medal Department as President Madden presented Presidential Medals to PCC Linda Tincher, PDG Vern Tincher, PCC Richard Halladay, Lion Jan Halladay, DG Brenda Lawson and PDG Gary Lawson.

President Wayne Madden visits with a Lion. Center: PDGS Dave Parker and Herb Stevens. Far Right: “Lion Cub” Danielle, Lion Jennifer and Lion Ross Drapalikd chat with PDG Jimand Lion Charlotte Query. Below right: Past Council Chair Richard Halladay and Lion Jan talk with PDG Gary Lawson.

Left: DG-E Mollie & PDG Gary Lawson receive presidential medals from International President Wayne Madden and above: PDG Dave Parker (center) received his 100% Governor award and Past District Governor jeweled pin.

Congratulations!

Last chance to buy a quilt raffle ticket– it will be

given away that night; you do not have to be

present to win. Proceeds benefit scholarship

fund!

Does your Club do a 50/50 or sometimes give away a Door Prize?

IF the Answer is YES then you need to read the following!

Indiana Charity Gaming held a seminar for Lions at Mid Winter and again at State Convention and Indiana Charity Gaming Deputy Director Larry Delaney stated Your Club needs to have a special Gaming License!!!! There is no charge for the CG-EN, Exempt Event Notification form 51413, but all Clubs should have one on file with his office! The only rule is that your club prize cannot be more than $1000 and you cannot give away more than $3,000 each year. Most of our 50/50’s are not that much!

It is a simple “fill in the blank” 2-page form that you can get online at:

http://www.in.gov/igc/2339.htm then click on FORMS and look for CG-EN Exempt Event Notifications.

You will need your Club’s EIN number and signatures of your Club President and Secretary. You also need to attach a copy of your club’s meeting dates and send to the address on the form. There is no cost!

Mr. Delaney stated that they do not go around looking for people to arrest, but if they receive a complaint they must investigate and prosecute if everything is not in order…He also stated that often a complaint, comes from an unhappy neighbor or even a Board/ club member that is not happy with something going on within in the club, district or state function, so they file a complaint about a possible illegal raffle/50/50 etc., forcing action by the commission.

If you would like to have a speaker on this subject or even to ask a question, telephone: (317) 232-4646. Someone will be happy to answer your question or schedule a speaker. Mr. Delaney stated several times they welcome questions rather than having to do an investigation!

So play it safe, fill out the form and send it in before your next meeting!

Note from the Editor:

As you know our District will be become parts of the New District 25C and New District 25E

immediately following the closing of the Lions International Convention in Hamburg, Germany,

therefore, this June Newsletter will be the last newsletter for 25-E1.

It will also be my last newsletter as Newsletter Editor…I want to thank everyone that has been

so good to send in articles and pictures to me. That made my job a lot easier! I will miss writing the

newsletter, but everything changes. Clubs in 25E please continue to send your articles and pictures to:

PDG Jim Brown, 904 Sarasota Dr., Seymour, IN [email protected] the new newsletter editor.

Lion Suzanne Graden will be the newsletter editor in New 25C and former E1 clubs can send them to

[email protected]

I will continue as a Global Leadership Chairperson and will be happy to continue to work with everyone

that has any problems filing Monthly Membership reports, Family Membership entries Activity Reports

and PU101s online with International regardless of what district you are in. My phone still thinks it

lives in 25E1!!!!!!

In addition, July 1 is rapidly approaching and you will be able to file your 2012

990N Postcard after July 1 but before November 15, 2013!

(if your club makes less than $50,000 a year)

The deadline to file for 2012 is Nov 15, do it early so if you have a problem we can resolve it before

the deadline! There is NO cost to file but there is to get reinstated if you don’t file…If you don’t file -

you will lose your Not- For -Profit Tax Status – which is Not good either!

Have a great Lion year in whatever District you are in and watch for a 25-E1 Reunion sometime next

February!

Your Newsletter Editor of many years…..
