During the 1970s, President Gerald Ford visited Keene; schools closed so student could go see him. In July of 1979, Keene’s first Street Fair was held. Before that, the event had been known as Sidewalk Sales or Crazy Days. First Lady Rosalyn Carter dedicated the E.E. Bagley Band-stand in Central Square.
