    Samaritans Purse, an

    international Chris-

    tian relief organization

    headquartered in Boone,

    N.C., has returned to Wayne

for the second time this year

    to help disaster victims.

    In March, after heavy

    rains caused widespread

    flooding in the area,

    Samaritans Purse sent a

Disaster Relief Unit to NewJersey and organized teams of

    volunteers who helped 42

homeowners in a span of two

    weeks. Now five months

    later, with the worst flooding

    NJ has seen since 1903,

    Samaritans Purse returns

    offering help to the victims

    of Hurricane Irene.

    This is the first

    response that I have been

back to a place where we

    have just served, said Lloyd

    Blackwell, program manager

    for Samaritans Purse. Its

    easier because we already

    have relationships. Its hard-

    er because youre seeing the

    same people affected again.

A Disaster Relief Unit,a specially equipped tractor-

trailer unit that serves as a

command post, is set up at

    Calvary Temple Church on

    Preakness Avenue. Each day,

    workers are equipped with

    tools and supplies and head

    into neighborhoods in and

    around Wayne to help people

    affected by the storm.

    Teams remove unsal-

    vageable belongings from

    homes and clean out debris

and muck left from the flood-

    waters. They rip up ruined

    flooring and strip damaged

    sheetrock from walls. They

    spray the exposed studs with

    solution that kills mold. The

    work saves homeowners

    thousands of dollars, and

    gives them a chance to

    rebuild.

All of the work is done

    for free by volunteers. Some

    are from the New Jersey area;

many come from out of town,

    traveling at their own

    expense to help people they

    dont know. Their motiva-

    tion is to demonstrate the

love of God, following thebiblical example of the Good

    Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).

    It opened my eyes to

see flood victims, to see the

    disappointment that can last

    for days and weeks, said

    James Mehl, who came from

    Indiana with three other

    men from his church. There

is no hope but our hope is in

    Jesus Christ. They have

nowhere to turn and the vol-

    unteers just engulf these peo-

    ple with love.

    When a job is complet-

    ed, each volunteer signs a

Bible that they present to the

    homeowners.

    On Thursday and

Friday, Samaritans Purseworkers were on Lillian

    Court, helping Tom and

    Mary Jane Portelli and their

    neighbors, Tony and Ann

    Giannini. Both their houses

    were flooded.

The People of PeaceMinistry at St. Marys Parish

    in Pompton Lakes will recog-

    nize International Day of

    Peace on Wednesday,

September 21, with an inter-faith celebration at 7:30 pm at

    St. Marys Carnevale Center,

    10 Lenox Avenue. The

    International Day of Peace is

one designed by the UN toprovide opportunities for indi-

    viduals, organizations, and

    nations to create practical acts

of peace on a shared date. The

UN will observe the date by

    rededicating itself to world

    peace and encourages all peo-

ple to work toward this goal.

Those taking part in the cele-

    bration at St. Marys will

    include faith leaders from the

local Jewish, Muslim,Protestant and Catholic com-

    munities. They will each

    speak briefly and offer prayers

and music for peace. The first

    International Day of Peace

was held in 1982 to coincide

with the opening of the UN

General Assembly as a day of

    global ceasefire and non-vio-

    lence. The observation has

    grown to include millions of

    people worldwide and many

    events are organized each year

to commemorate and cele-brate this day. This is the

    fourth year the People of

    Peace Ministry at St. Marys

    has observed the event. The

    public is invited to attend.

    Refreshments will be served.

    September is Life In-

    surance Awareness

    Month. LIMRA the

    Life Insurance and Market

    Research Association,

    recently provided some pow-

    erful information regarding

life insurance ownership. The proportion of U.S.

    adults with life insurance

    protection has declined to an

    all-time low: 41% (95 mil-

    lion) of American adults has

    no life insurance at all.

    Both men and women are

less likely to own life insur-

ance today than they were in

    2004 only 61 percent of

    men and 57 percent of

women have some sort of lifeinsurance coverage.

Only 1 in 10 insured adults

    own both permanent and

    term life insurance half as

    many as in 2004.

    The likelihood of being

    without life insurance has

    dramatically increased for

    every age group since 2004.

    These statistics are dis-

    appointing to say the least,

especially when consideringthe awesome benefits that a

    carefully constructed policy

    can provide. For example

    Life

    Insurance can:

    Create an Estate

    Fund a business transfer

    Pay estate taxes and other

    settlement costs

    Pay-off a mortgageProtect a business from

the loss of a key employee

    Replace a charitable gift

    Equalize inheritances

    Pay-off a loan

    Accelerated death benefits

    if diagnosed terminally ill

    (giving you money now)

    Provide college fund for

    children or grandchildren

    Emergency Funds for

    any purposeAnd my personal favorite

in addition to all of the above:

    Provides a Supplemental

    Tax-Free Retirement Income

    There are many policies

    from various companies that

    each offer different unique-

    nesss or specific benefits.

    Some offer very low mortali-

    ty charges, while others may

    offer tremendous cash value

    growth opportunities. Somecash accumulating policies

    may be invested directly in

    the stock market, while oth-

ers may be based on only pos-

    itive stock market perform-

ance with no loss potential if

    the market retreats. Other

    policies build no cash value

    at all and obviously require

    less premium. Regardless of

the type of policy you pur-

chase, you should be aware ofthe following rules:

    1. Life Insurance Policies

    must be reviewed frequently

    to determine if the death

    benefit level is adequate

    based on changes in your life;

such as the birth of a child,

    accumulation of debt,

    increase in net worth and

resulting taxes at death.2.Annual policy statements

    must be compared to the

    original policy illustration to

    determine if the cash value

growth is in line with what

    was projected or anticipated.

    Additional premiums may be

    necessary to supplement

    any/or shortfall or premiums

may be reduced if there is a

    surplus.

3.Shop Around New poli-cies from new companies

may offer a better value than

    your existing policy. Cash

    value crediting formulas may

    be improved or mortality

    charges reduced, offering

    enhanced values elsewhere.

    Changing from one policy to

    another can be done incometax-free.

4.Health is a factor and an

asset not to be taken lightly.

    In the life insurance business

    it is called insurability. With

    insurability, you can look and

    switch to another carrier eas-

    ily; without insurability you

may very well be stuck with

what you have and if it is a

    term policy, it might expire

before you do. That is onereason to consider purchas-

ing a policy that is guaran-

    teed for life.

    5. Never cancel your life

    insurance policy until the

    new one is approved, in-force

    and paid for.

    6. Sometimes it is not in your

best interest to exchangeyour policy or cancel it.

Perhaps it might be better to

    sell it. Given certain param-

    eters, investors might be

    interested in purchasing your

    policy and paying more than

    the cash surrender value.

    7. Perhaps your policy may

    require no further premiums,

    if there is sufficient cash

value and or dividends to pay

    all of the mortality charges

and expenses for the rest of

your life. This can easily bedetermined by asking the

    company to produce an in-

    force ledger indicating no

    further premiums payable.

    8.After, reviewing, shopping

    and investigating to deter-

    mine your options, the best

option might be to keep what

Have you checked your smoke detector batteries this year? By Mark Charnet

    In todays economic cli-

    mate, there are more job

    applicants than there are

    jobs. Landing or keeping a

job with so much stiff compe-

    tition means employees must

    take the necessary steps to

ensure theyre a viable part of

    the company. Dressing the

part may seem inconsequen-tial, but it can say much

    about how seriously you take

    your work.

    A business casual dress

    code is standard across much

    of the white-collar business

    world. It has supplanted for-

    mal attire, sometimes called

    international standard busi-

    ness attire, in most compa-

nies. In the U.S., roughly 45

percent of employees arriveto work in business casual

    clothing. Still, many are not

    quite sure what constitutes

    business casual wear.

    Business casual clothing

    is neat, professional and clas-

    sic. Although not a uniform,

this type of attire helps to

    keep workers uniformly

    dressed in tailored and com-

    fortable clothing.

    For men and women,

khaki or dark-colored slacksare customary; women may

    choose to wear conservative

skirts that are not too short.

    Pressed, long-sleeved, but-

    toned solid shirts are safe

    bets for both men and

    women. Short sleeves are

    customary during the warmer

    weather. Some companies

    allow collared polo shirts or

    golf Ts. Informal dresses for

women and sweaters are alsoacceptable. Women should

    avoid baring too much cleav-

age, which can be viewed as

    sexually forward. With

    both genders, clothing

    should fit well but not

    be too tight or sugges-

    tive. Depending on the

    organization, shoes

    should be closed-toe

    and modest.

    Many companies

institute casual Fri-day attire, which is a

    variation on business

    casual by allowing

    jeans or sneakers to be

    worn. However, even

    on casual days, most

    companies frown upon

    wrinkled, ripped, too

    trendy, or revealing

    types of jeans. Shorts

    are often frowned upon as

well. If women will be wear-ing dresses, spaghetti straps

should be avoided in favor of

    thicker tank top straps or

    capped sleeves in warmer

weather. Flip-flops and otherflimsy sandals also should be

    reconsidered.

    In terms of accessories

    and jewelry, less is often

    more when complementing

    business casual attire. Avoid

    flashy items or pieces that

    may distract or inspire envy.

    The work environment is not

    a fashion runway, and dress-

ing to stand out could make

    others feel intimidated.

Not all companiesemploy the same rules and

    regulations concerning ward-

robe. For those who are new

to a company, its best to

    stick with conservative busi-

    ness casual basics and then

    observe what others are

    wearing. Keep in mind that

    attire worn by supervisors or

    business owners may not be

    what employees are allowed

to wear. Just because theCEO is donning jeans and a

    T-shirt every day doesnt

mean it is acceptable for you.

    When in doubt, ask human

    resources or a personnel

    director if there are attire

    guidelines. Fellow employees

whom you trust can also lend

    advice.

    Here are some other tips

    when shopping for business

    casual.

Avoid large patternsbecause they are memorable,

and these items will not be

    able to be worn frequently

    without risking the chance of

    someone recalling the outfit.

    Invest in some blue, black,

    brown and tan pants and/or

    skirts. These basics can be

    worn with many different

    colored shirts and blouses.

    A cardigan or blazer can

instantly dress up a businesscasual outfit for a client

    meeting.

Business casual is the standard for work

A collared shirt and slacks is thestandard for business casual in most

    work environments.

    Pillows are more impor-

    tant than many of us

    think. Since we spend

    approximately one third of our

    lives sleeping, what we sleep

on can be a major contributor

    to the postures we develop.

    Posture (and hence spinal

    alignment) is a significant

    health factor. Main-taining

    good spinal posture while we

sleep can help us avoid many

    health problems, from muscu-

lar aches and pains to spinal

decay and even effects on the

    nervous system.

    When discussing pillows

with my patients, I have them

    consider the following crite-

    ria:

    1. SIZE AND NUMBER:

    Some people sleep with their

head propped up using large or

    more than one pillow.

    Regardless of the position they

sleep in, this forces the neck

    into an unnatural posture,

resulting in significant stresson the spinal discs, ligaments

and muscles. The best use for

an extra pillow is not to be

placed under your head but to

place it between your knees if

you sleep on your side, or

under your knees if you sleep

    on your back.

    2. PRIMARY SLEEPING

    POSITION: Are you a side

sleeper or a back sleeper? (If

    you sleep on your stomach,

    dont!) Side sleepers need pil-

lows that keep the neck in

line with the rest of the spine

and cradle the head to avoid

    head tilt. Back sleepers

    require pillows that maintain

    optimum neck curve while

allowing the head to rest com-

    fortably on the bed. Many

    back sleepers do very well

    using simply a cervical roll.

    Most of us, however, cannot

decide what we are and conse-

    quently need a pillow that

    somehow does all of the

    above.

3.CONTENT: Beyond per-sonal preference, two points

to consider are, is it non-aller-

genic and does it provide ade-

    quate long-lasting support?

    4.SHAPE: Modern pillows

come in a variety of shapes,

    from the traditional, to the

    contour or posture pillow

    and cervical roll. Each of

    these have shortcomings

    depending on ones sleeping

    position.

    New developments in

    pillow design are on-going.

    Speak to your chiropractor

about what type of pillow may

    be best for you. Remember

that changing to a new pillow

    challenges what your body is

used to. Incorporate the newpillow gradually, and expect

    several weeks to become

    accustomed to it.

    At this historic

    c o m b i n e d

    meeting of the

    Wayne, Pequannock

    Valley, and Pompton

    Lakes Rotary Clubs,

    Brian Clark told about

    his harrowing and

    miraculous escape from

    the 84th floor of the

    South Tower of the

    World Trade Center, after the

    terrorist bombings on

    9/11/2001.

    At precisely 8:46 am, on

that historic day, Brian was in

his office tapping away on the

keyboard with his back to the

    window, when he heard an

    extremely loud double boom.

    Looking towards the window,

    he saw an unbelievable

    sightswirling flames. Brian

had been at the World Trade

    Center in 1993, during the

    basement terrorist bombing,

so he had some idea of what

was going on. He looked up

and saw sort of a ring of fire

    around the 93rd floor.

    Brian called his wife and

dad, to tell him he was

    OKas, at that time, there

    were all kinds of conflicting

    reports about what had hap-

    pened.

    Then came another dou-

    ble explosion and the office

    area just seemed to fall

    apart. Walls were torn, and

    everything seemed to be com-

ing out of the ceiling. At one

    point, the skyscraper actually

    leaned about six or eight

    feet towards the Hudson

    Riverand then

    swayed back to where

    it had been. He

    thought the entire

    building might be

    falling down.

    After the1993 bomb-

    ing, a fire safety team

    had been formed and

    Brian was a member,

    having gone though

training. So, he took his trusty

    flashlight and gathered the

    group around him to attempt

    to escape the smoke and

    destruction around them.

    As they descended down

the stairs to the 81st floor

    landing, they encountered a

    somewhat panicked lady, who

    yelled, Stop! and said they

    should go higher, rather than

down to lower floors, so they

could get to fresh air. Of their

    group, nine people decided to

go up, and they were never

    heard from again.

    At that moment, Brian

heard a call for help, there on

the 81st floor. Brian and a co-

worker, Ron, ran over to try

and help the man who was

    trapped under debris. At that

    point, Ron was overcome by

    smoke, and started up towards

    the higher floors in an

    During its first few hours

    of life, your kitten

    receives natural immu-

    nity against most diseases from

    its mothers first milk, the

    colostrum. But eventually your

    kittens immune system will

    have to fend for itself.

    Vaccinations provide your kit-

    ten good protection against

    some life-threatening diseases.

    Heres an explanation of the

vaccines you need or may want

    to consider, as recommended

    by your veterinarian.

    FVR-C-P. The upper respira-

tory infection seen in cats is a

    complex clinical disease.

    FVR-C-P, protects your cat

    against the two viruses most

likely to cause an upper respira-

    tory infection in your cat

    feline rhinotracheitis (feline

    herpes virus) and feline cali-

    civirus. Infections with these

    viruses can cause discharge

from the nose or eye, respirato-

    ry problems, mouth sores,

    anorexia, and abortion. FVR-

    C-P also protects against pan-

    leukopeniafeline distem-

    per an acute gastrointestinal

    viral infection associated with

    a sudden onset, depression,

    vomiting, diarrhea, dehydra-

tion, and a high mortality rate.

    These vaccines require boost-

ers two to four weeks apart; the

last dose is given at 12 to 16

    weeks.

    FeLV. Feline leukemia virus

    vaccines are available for inter-

    ested cat owners. This vaccine

    is recommended only for those

    cats with high exposure poten-

tial, such as outdoor cats, show

cats and in multiple cat house-

holds (even if all are consid-

    ered indoor only). Before try-

ing out the FeLV vaccine, have

your cat tested to see if he

already has the disease. Half of

all cats who get FeLV will die

    from complications associated

    with the disease. Consult with

    your veterinarian if this vac-

cine is right for your cat.

    FIP. Feline Infectious

    Peritonitis, which is associated

    with anorexia, weight loss,

    growth stunting, gradually

    developing potbelly and fever,

has a very high mortality rate.

    A vaccine was developed six

years ago and can be given to

cats greater than 16 weeks of

age. It requires two doses three

to four weeks apart. The effec-

tiveness of this vaccine in pre-

    venting this fatal feline disease

is still being tested and is

    debatable; therefore most vet-

    erinarians do not recommend

    this vaccine at this time.

    Rabies. Most of us associate

rabies with the mad dog froth-

ing at the mouth, eager to bite

    anything near it. Although this

    is a common presentation in

countries where there is a very

    high population of unvaccinat-

ed stray dogs, in the United

    States, rabies usually appears in

    wild animals. Rabies vaccina-

tion is required in New Jersey.

    Rabies vaccines can be admin-

istered at greater than 12 weeks

of age in felines. All warm-

    blooded animalsincluding

    youcan get rabies. The prog-

    nosis unfortunately is fatal.

    Few medical procedures

are without risk; while trying to

    prevent disease in your cat,

    there is a small chance

    that harm may be done.

    Veterinarians have observed a

    chance of developing a vac-

    cine-associated sarcoma at a

    rate of 20 per 100,000 cats. A

    veterinary task force has been

    assigned to this problem. These

    officials make the following

    statement on their Web site

    broch.html): Disturbing as

this issue may be, there is great

    concern that cat owners,

    attempting to keep their cats

    from harm, may forego vacci-

    nation entirely. The result?

    Though well intentioned,

    these owners may be placing

cats at far greater risk of acquir-

ing a fatal infection than any

risk the vaccine poses. And in

    the case of rabies, human

health is at risk as well.

    After your vaccinations,

    ask your veterinarian to point

    out where the injections were

placed and then keep an eye on

those sites. If you notice a firm,

    painless swelling located near a

    previous vaccination site, con-

    tacts your veterinarian.

    Your local veterinarian

    can provide more information

    about vaccinations for your

    pet. What is given often

depends on the risk of specific

    diseases in your geographic

    area, your pets life-style and

    state laws.

    Protect your companion

    animals and yourself by paying

a visit to your local veterinari-

    an and following the suggested

    vaccination protocol.

    Harnessing the power

    within the body has

    always been a holy

    grail in medicine. Rather than

    receiving an artificial joint or

implant, people seem to want it

normal, or the way it used to

    be. Increasingly there are

    advances in orthopedics that

    bring us closer to restoration,

    rather than replacement. An

    example of the concept of

    restoration is the surgical pro-

    cedure called micro-fracture.

    Originally developed by Dr.

    J.R. Steadman, micro-frac-

ture is a technique that uses

stem cells to grow fibro carti-

lage in an area of cartilage

    defect.

    Cartilage is the smooth

white surface layer of any joint.

It allows the joint to glide and

    distribute impact forces for

    everything from everyday liv-

    ing to extreme sporting stresses.

An area of cartilage defect can

    be truly challenging to treat.

    The problem is that cartilage,

once lost or destroyed, does not

    grow back. An extreme form

    of cartilage loss is advanced

    bone on bone arthritis, where

    very little or no cartilage

    remains.

    For smaller cartilage

    defects in the knee, micro-frac-

ture is a surgical option to grow

    fibro cartilage into the defect.

    The procedure is done arthro-

    scopically, using two small

    inch incisions along the front

    of the knee. The typically

    frayed edges along the cartilage

defect are cleaned up using a

    motorized arthroscopic shaver.

Next, tiny holes are made into

    the bone using micro-fracture

picks that almost look like den-

    tal picks. The spacing and

positioning of the holes is criti-

    cally important because just the

right spacing is needed in order

    to ensure adequate stem cell

    coverage of the defect. By

    making tiny holes into the

    bone, undifferentiated cells, or

stem cells, are released into the

joint. These cells tend to have

a sticky quality to them and

stick to the area of cartilage

    defect.

    After the surgery, patients

    are put into CPM (continuous

    passive motion) machines that

gently move the knee back and

    forth in flexion and extension.

By using the CPM machine for

several hours a day, the stem

    cells mature and differentiate

into fibro cartilage that helps to

    restore the joint surface. In

    fact, upon repeat operations in

    patients who re-injured their

knee, it is often impossible to

    recognize where the cartilage

    defect had been.

    Originally developed to

treat high level skiers in Vail

    Colorado, cartilage defects are

    seen in athletes and hard-work-

    ing folks alike. Especially in

    patients who are healthy and

    active, we explain to patients

    that there are viable options.

    T

    he relationship be-

    tween motor and cog-

    nitive skills can be

    viewed as a pyramid. Without

a strong motor skill base, a

    child cannot build or support

    higher level cognitive func-

    tions. The motor skills of

    crawling, rolling, pulling to

    stand and walking are the

    foundation for cognitive

    growth that the school aged

    child must achieve.

    Most children enjoy phys-

    ical activity, but with computer

    games and IMing competing

    for their attention, many chil-

    dren lead a very sedentary

    lifestyle. Children who have

    not been exposed to adequate

    opportunities to develop motor

    skills may have difficulty build-

    ing the cognitive skills required

    for elementary school.

    For example, in order to

sit at a desk in an upright posi-

tion for the duration of a class,

    a child must have adequate

    postural muscle endurance to

sustain this activity. If the child

is slumping in the chair, she or

he is unable to pay proper

    attention to the class, (the

    child is concerned with main-

    taining an upright position) he

    or she cannot learn adequately,

    or perform appropriate fine

    motor tasks like writing and

    taking notes.

    Parents who suspect that

their child has a delay in motor

    skill development should have

their child evaluated by a pedi-

    atric physical therapist. There

    are many conditions that affect

    the achievement of gross skills

    including developmental and

    genetic disorders, injuries, ill-

    ness, congenital deformities

    and developmental coordina-

    tion disorders.

    The earliest possible

    intervention produces the best

    success rate. There are certain

red flags that may point to a

    problem and should be dis-

    cussed with your childs pedia-

    trician. These signs include,

but are not limited to not walk-

ing by 15 months, not walking

with a heel toe gait and not

being able to propel a ride on a

    toy by age two.

I have provided a list of

    age appropriate gross motor

    skills for each developmental

age range that can be used as a

    guideline:

    Infancy:

Infant can lift head to a 45

    degree angle by 4-6 weeks

Infant can lift head and chest

    by 8 weeks

Infant can turn head by 16-

    20 weeks

    Creeping on stomach and

    dragging legs behind by 6-9

    months

    Crawling by 7-12 months

    Cruising along furniture by

    7-13 months

First steps between 9 and 16

    months

    Toddlers:

    At two years old children

    can run well

    Negotiate stairs with a rail-

ing by putting both feet on

    each step

    Emerging ability to kick

    and throw a ball

    At three years old children

    can walk backwards

    Run with ability to make

    sudden stops and change

    directions

    Emerging skills with hop-

    ping, standing on one foot

    Negotiate rungs of a jungle

    gym

    Riding a tricycle

    Preschool:

    A four year old should:

Balance or hop on one foot

    Jump forward or backward

    over objects

    And climb and descend stairs

    with alternating feet

    Bounce, catch and throw

    balls accurately

    May be able to skip

    School Age:

    Generally good at a wide

    variety of physical activities,

    Five year olds can skip,

    jump rope, catch a bounced

    ball, walk on their tiptoes

    Engage in beginning acro-

    batics

May be able to ride a two-

    wheeled bicycle

    Eight and nine year olds

    can swim, roller skate, ice

skate, jump rope and play a

    variety of sports.

    We can cultivate chil-

    drens motor skill development

    by offering them appropriate

    movement experiences.

    Physical therapy can offer

    movement programs that are

    designed to strengthen basic

    skills. Children will benefit

from a well planned, age appro-

    priate, fun program that is

    specifically designed to meet

    their needs. Whether or not

daily physical activity is a prior-

ity in adult life, it is an absolute

    necessity for children to aug-

    ment physical, cognitive and

    social growth.

    Want to look younger

    the natural way?

    Dr. Ramtin Kassir

tells us about the latest proce-

    dure in anti-aging with his

    DNA Lift technique.

    If youve ever considered

    or undergone Restylane(TM) or

    Juvederm(TM) injections, you

may be interested in this new

    technique known as the DNA

    Lift Why the name? The

    contents of the lift include

    stem cells, fat, and platelets

(derived from your own fat and

    blood). This mixture is then

used to contour the face and fill

    in skin depressions or wrinkles.

    Essentially, Dr. Kassir will

draw a patients blood, use a

    centrifuge to spin the blood

    and remove the platelets and

fibrin, and then inject the sub-

    stance into the patients face

(or other body parts) in order

to fill out hollows and other

    imperfections. Dr. Kassir per-

    forms this in conjunction with

the patients own fat. Fat graft-

ing is also a natural approach to

restoring a youthful look to the

    face that does not involve

removal of skin. Fat transfer is

    the process of taking small

amounts of fat from one part of

    the body and reimplanting it

    elsewhere, where it is needed.

    As an injectable filler, your

own fat is almost perfect. It is

soft and feels natural; it does

    not cause immune problems.

    Dr. Kassir can perform the

    procedure in about 20 minutes.

Results can be achieved in just

    one session, though more may

be necessary. So, why opt for

the DNA Lift? One of the

    major benefits of Selphyl and

fat transfer is that it is created

from the patients own body, no

    chemicals are involved and

    allergic reactions virtually

    never occur. Results are seen

    immediately and improve over

    several weeks.

    Price varies, but the DNA

Lift can cost you up to

$2,500 per injection. It is a

    great investment considering

that results may last up to 18

months. Plus, its a good way to

    avoid invasive surgical proce-

dures and use your own biology

    to aid your anti-aging quest.

    attempt to reach some fresh

    air. He, too, perished.

    Brian somehow seemed

to find some fresh air, and

tried to help the trapped man,

    whose name is Stanley. At

    first Brian could only see

    Stanleys hand waving from

under the debris, as he was

    yelling for help. Dragging

    away the debris, Brian could

    see that Stanley was trapped

in a pit-like pile of stuff.

    He urged Stanley to

    jump towards him, but

    Stanley couldnt do it. Finally,

he was able to make the jump

and landed on Brian who fell

    on his back. Brian then

    exclaimed that this made

    them blood brothers for life.

    At that point Brian and

Stanley had to make a life

    threatening decision: to go up

    or down the stairs. They

decided to go down, and that

    was the right decision.

    At the 68th floor, they

    encountered a co-worker

named Jose, who was on his

way up to rescue a worker on a

higher floor. Jose was a securi-

ty guard, who was intent on

    his rescue mission even

    though it was through smoke

    and other dangers. Says Brian,

Jose was a great guy and my

    hero.

    Once Brian and Stanley

    finally reached ground level,

    they thought they were

    safebut security people told

    them there were substantial

    pieces of debris falling down

    in the Liberty St. areaso

they were going to have to go

for it. The two of them ran

for a block and a half before

they ran out of steam, in front

of a deli. They went in to get

    some waterand, better than

    that, the proprietor gave them

    a whole breakfast platter.

Then, it was back on the

way to safety for Brian and

    Stanley. Along the way they

    ran into two Priests from

    Trinity Churchand they all

    prayed together. Stanley

    exclaimed that Brian had

saved his life. And, Brian said

    that Stanleys call for help

    really saved his life (because

he didnt head up the stairs

with the others). It was at the

    Trinity Church that Brian and

    Stanley saw the South Tower

actually go down. It seemed to

    melt in their view. From

    there, they walked towards

    Broadway, all in that whitish

    smoke/ash/toxic stuff that we

    saw on TV. Somehow or

    other, Stanley and Brian got

    separated at that point.

Brian got a ferry back to

NJ, and then took a train back

    home to Mahwah. But, he

    never lost track of Stanley.

They talk and still see each

    other. Stanley came to the

    wedding of Brians oldest

    daughter. He still carries

    Stanleys business card in his

    walletand wears a band on

his wrist to honor his hero,

    Jose.

    Brian concluded, Im

happy to be alive! He does-

nt worry about the future any-

    moreand hopes that we

    dont either. And, he doesnt

dwell on the past, saying that

Every day is great! He talked

    about how precious life

isand as we get toward the

end of the trail, we should ask

    ourselves, Have we done the

best we can with the gifts we

    have been given.

    And, looking out at a

    three-club Rotary audience of

    some 70 people, Brian empha-

    sized, You guys get ityoure

people do this. Theyre all so

    polite and loving. Unbeliev-

    able. Theyre so kind. Just

    wonderful people. They leave

    their homes and do this.

    Both families were very

    appreciative of the help.

    Its great to see people

    Unlike their parents,

    todays kids often

    forgo sandlot baseball

or games of tag for much more

    sedentary fare like video games

    or surfing the Internet. While

    video games and Internet

    access arent lacking in value,

    many parents would prefer

    their kids be more active.

    Though it can be difficult

to get kids off the couch, there

are ways parents can help their

kids live and embrace a more

    active lifestyle, which can have

    benefits both now and down

    the road.

Make it a team effort. Parents

    who are concerned their kids

    arent getting enough daily

    exercise should ask themselves

    if theyre getting enough exer-

    cise themselves. Kids arent the

only ones who need daily exer-

cise. A good way to encourage

kids is to join them. Make daily

    physical activity a team effort.

Kids dont have to join Mom

and Dad at the gym. Instead, go

for a nightly walk after dinner,

or make time to play catch in

the yard. Kids often take cues

from their parents even if their

    parents arent aware. Parents

    who exercise every day are

much more likely to have kids

who exercise every day as well.

Set a positive example for kids

and include them in your own

    fitness routine whenever the

    opportunity arises.

    Minimize television time.

    The American Academy of

    Pediatrics recommends older

kids watch no more than two

hours of television per day. But

as any parent knows, most kids

    average much more than two

hours of television per day. To

    decrease that tube time, par-

ents can take televisions out of

    their kids bedrooms, instead

    putting televisions only in the

    common rooms which will also

    allow parents to more closely

    monitor what their kids are

    watching.

    Encourage extracurricular

    activities. While parents might

find it hard to believe, todays

kids, even with all the video

    games and additional gadgets,

    still get bored. Boredom might

    be contributing to sedentary

    lifestyles. To combat boredom,

    parents should encourage

    extracurricular activities that

get kids off the couch. Whether

    its participating in team sports,

joining the local or school the-

ater program or even getting a

    job, parents should encourage

kids to do more after school

than come home and turn on

    the television or play video

    games.

    Emphasize activity instead of

    exercise. Many adults associate

exercise with going to the gym

    or running on the treadmill,

both of which are tough to get

    excited about. Kids might be

    equally indifferent and less

    enthusiastic about exercise.

    Instead of emphasizing exer-

    cise, encourage kids to be

    active. Being active doesnt

have to entail playing a sport or

    doing any calisthenics. Instead,

an active lifestyle is one thats

not spent idling the hours away

    lounging. Encourage kids to get

    outdoors and pursue interests

other than video games or tele-

    vision shows.

    Parents should express inter-

est in their kids activities. If

kids like to fish, ask how they

    fared after their most recent

    trip to the neighborhood fish-

    ing hole. When parents express

an interest in their kids activi-

ties, kids are more likely to

    embrace those activities, some-

    thing thats especially benefi-

cial if the activities in question

are ones that get kids off the

    couch.

    In the aftermath of

    Hurricane Irene and the

    torrential rains that fol-

    lowed, many people are grap-

    pling with the early warning

signs of exposure to toxic mold,

    including allergies, coughs,

    chronic colds, sinusitis, ear

    infections, fever, headaches,

    fatigue, dizziness, nausea, nose-

    bleeds and more. Research has

    indicated links between toxic

mold and diseases such as can-

    cer and heart disease.

    Toxic mold is so pervasive

that it has been known to ruin

a home, close down a business,

    and ruin a persons health.

    According to the EPA,

    using bleach, chemicals, bio-

    cides and fungicides will not

    stop mold from returning.

    Mold spores continue to grow

    back, even when covered with

    paint or treated with surface

    cleaners.

    The very good news is

that there now is a highly effec-

    tive NON-TOXIC solution to

    eliminating mold. A blend of

special therapeutic grade high-est quality essential oils has

been found to be far more effec-

    tive at eliminating mold than

    any other treatment currently

    available, with an overall 100%

    spore removal efficiency for

    seventeen species of mold, with

    long term residual effects.

    This wonderful non-toxic

    solution that eliminates toxic

mold and keeps it away is a

plant based cleaner containinga blend of essential oils known

to kill multiple types of mold

    you have and to continuing

paying for it as it is working

    exactly the way it was

    designed to do.

    9.Life Insurance Policies

    are like smoke detectors, not

    the Ronco Rotisserie Grill;

you cannot just set it and

    forget it! It is recommend-

    ed that your smoke detector

    batteries be changed annu-

ally and so too, should youcheck the facts and figures

    of your life insurance poli-

    cies.

    10. Life Insurance is the most

    bought, least understood

    consumer product in the

    nation, always was and

    always will be. The policies

are mostly written in what I

    call insurance hieroglyph-

    ics by actuaries and lawyers;

its the nature of the beastand unfortunately, most con-

    sumers need an honest inter-

    preter to decipher their poli-

    cy language. The majority of

    agents leave the industry

within 5 years of entering the

    field so finding the original

    writing agent may be diffi-

    cult.

    Let me encourage you to

    conduct a policy check-up as

soon as possible. The indus-try has accomplished many

    breakthroughs in policy

    design over the last decade

that may very well be in your

    best interest to evaluate. If

    you havent performed a life

    insurance policy check-up in

a while, now would be the

    perfect opportunity. As a pro-

    fessional with over 30 years

of experience in the field of

reading and evaluating insur-ance hieroglyphics, I would

be happy to assist you with

    your policy(s) review at no

    charge. Just mention you

    read about a free policy

    review in the Life and

    Leisure paper, when you call

    my office for an appoint-

    ment.
