Dear Girl Scout Leader: We at Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont and Goodwill Industries are excited about our annual donation drive collaboration: Good Turn for Goodwill. Through your troop’s efforts, we anticipate the collection of thousands of pounds of donations that will be sold in Goodwill stores to support employment and training programs that help local people find hope, opportunity, and jobs. We hope you’ll agree that this unique community partnership between Goodwill and the Girl Scouts will ultimately benefit all citizens in our service areas. Good Turn for Goodwill will teach your girls the value of volunteering for those who are less fortunate and provide the opportunity for them to earn a FREE Good Turn patch. Of course, your participation is vital to the project’s success. Simply follow these easy steps: 1. Read the materials included in this packet and discuss with your girls how their donations enable Goodwill to provide training and jobs for people in their communities. 2. Ask your girls to watch the mission video at http://tinyurl.com/GoodwillVideo to learn how their donations to Goodwill help the local community. 3. Encourage each Girl Scout to collect unwanted clothing and electronics from her family, neighbors, and friends. 4. Donate the bags of donations to any Goodwill store or donation center during the month of October. 5. Submit the Project Report/Patch Order Form at https://bit.ly/3z9wEFm by November 15. Don't forget to take a picture of your troop in their Girl Scout uniforms donating to Goodwill and upload to the form. That’s it! Your girls have participated in the 2021 Good Turn for Goodwill and will be awarded their Good Turn patches in early 2022. MOST NEEDED ITEMS

• Electronics*• Clothing• Shoes• Furniture• Toys• Linens

• Small appliances• Household goods• Accessories (purses, belts)• Home decor• Books and DVDs• Computers and peripherals

Technology changes constantly, quickly leaving your gear in the past - or in your closet, basement or attic. Goodwill makes it easy to recycle your used

computer equipment, tablets, gaming systems, games and consoles, mobile devices and other electronics.

When you donate your unwanted equipment - any brand, any condition - Goodwill responsibly recycles those items,

diverting tons of e-waste from our landfills each year and creating green jobs in your community.

Donated computers are cleaned of personal data and evaluated for resale. Equipment that can be sold is refurbished and offered at affordable prices in Goodwill stores. Older equipment is broken down and responsibly recycled, adhering to strict environmental policies with 100 percent diversion from landfills.

ITEMS GOODWILL CAN’T ACCEPTIt’s hard to say “no thank you” to a donation. However, if an item is not saleable, the costs of handling and disposal pull funds that would otherwise support our mission. Please dispose of these items through an alternative responsible resource, such as a local recycling center.

This list should be used as a guideline. There may be other items that Goodwill cannot sell or that must be turned down due to size, condition, safety issues, or suitability.

• Building materials: carpet, shutters, doors, windows, toilets, lumber, concrete, bricks, stones.

• CRT televisions. Recycling is costly and burdensome and reduces funds that would otherwise beused to support Goodwill's workforce development programs.

• Kerosene and gas heaters/appliances. Goodwill isn’t licensed to handle/sell these items. Disposal isexpensive and highly restricted.

• Automobile parts: tires, wheels, batteries, seats, body parts and engines.

• Paint or chemicals. Goodwill is not allowed to sell or dispose of these items in a landfill.

• Large household appliances: stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters.

• CPSC recall items: infant strollers/carriages, playpens, car seats; exercise equipment; children’s itemscontaining lead/phthalates.

• Household mattresses, box springs.

ALL donations to Goodwill help support employment and training programs that help thousands of people each year find hope, opportunity and jobs. Your donations are sold in Goodwill’s stores, with 89 cents of every dollar spent funding mission and sustainability.

Thank you for helping make Goodwill’s mission possible.

THANK YOU
