“… for God is love.” (1 John 4:8b) What Is Love? An emotion? An action? “How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count The Ways” is a famous love poem written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, describing love as a force that can conquer everything in the universe. So, is love a force? Love is not just a force, love is complicated. We use one word in English to describe our affection for everything. I love God, I love sports, I love to hike, and I love my wife and family! Same word, but different levels of affection. The Greek language used at least seven different words for “love.” The Bible used one of those Greek words, “agape,” to define and describe the highest level of love. “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8) Love is more than an emotion or a force, love is God. God is love! In what we call the love chapter (I Corinthians 13) Paul describes 14 different ways to be like God and demonstrate His love, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, it keeps no record of being wronged…. Wait! Stop right there! Love keeps no record of being wronged. In athletics we keep track of every statistic, good or bad! In FCA, we keep track of how many schools we visit, Huddles that are meeting, Bibles distributed, lives surrendered to Jesus Christ – we keep track of everything! But God’s love is not a tracking system. God’s love keeps no record of wrongs. The Greek word was an accounting term; describing a person who stores in his memory all the mistakes or perceived wrongdoings that someone has made against him. Rather than forgive, they record it and refuse to let it go. Paul says, this is not the way love behaves! If you want to know how love behaves, look at the action of God towards us. We know God could drag up our past before us all the time, but He doesn’t do that! He keeps no record of our sins, He forgives. That is love. We are living in a time when people are easily wronged or offended. Instead of recording the perceived wrongs of others, lets demonstrate the love of God and show grace, just as God has shown us His amazing grace! Love may be complicated and hard at times, but it’s powerful! So dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Thank you for showing us your love, as your financial gifts are an incredible act of love and we are very grateful! As we enter 2021, we ask that you pray for our office! We are striving to add another staff person, but that takes more Home Team donors. Please join us in prayer that we will have more people give to this ministry. More importantly, pray for us as we prepare for our summer camp, and continue to spread the Gospel to dozens of schools and teams on a weekly basis! February, 2021 Rex Stump, Area Director One of our former FCA Baseball coaches and his son, have continued their faith journey with a new team. What this player learned with FCA has continued as Colt Ward started pulling his Motor City Hit Dogs team together for pregame prayer, and witnessing to those that don’t know Jesus as their Savior. He felt convicted to talk on his own to his coach and asked for permission, as the leader, to do this before taking the field. Pictured is Colt and his team praying at a tournament in Florida in January. LEFT:
