SAFETY MEASURES RE: COVID-19 SCHOOL RESUMPTION- D.E.T Victoria To support the health and wellbeing of all our students and staff, our school will continue an enhanced cleaning routine and will implement frequent hand washing with soap and sanitiser. If your child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend school. They must remain home and seek medical advice. While the Chief Health Officer has advised that students will not be required to maintain physical distancing at school, there will be a number of important changes to our school operations, consistent with health advice to all schools that is available. It is important to note that changes will include: -a ban on all sports days, camps, excursions, assemblies and large gatherings; -restrictions on access to the school site for anyone other than immediate school staff and students; -a requirement that all children have a clearly labelled and clean drink bottle. This will contain water only. It is not considered safe for students to use the bubble taps. -parent-teacher meetings and interview processes. This will apply until further notice. NB: We will not initiate a staggered drop off and collection time for Cobden Primary School but we ask parents to ensure social distancing is respected at these times. We ask that all parents collect their child outside the school gates. There may be exceptions. If this is the case for you, and you need to speak to the child’s teacher, please contact them to arrange a time. ClassDojo message will be a suitable platform for this or phone the school. We understand that some families may feel anxious about this move back to classroom teaching and learning. The Department of Education and Training, Victoria (D.E.T) have reached this decision based on the best health advice available to our state. More information about the return to school and coronavirus (COVID-19) can be found on the Department’s website, which will continue to be updated: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/Pages/coronavirus.aspx Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming our students back to the classroom.

Students have been enjoying doing some home baking.

With just over a week of remote learning left ahead of us, we once again would like to thank you all for your extraordinary efforts over the last two months. We are extremely grateful for how well the school community has united and adapted to these remarkable circumstances. The support you have provided for your children, teachers and school has been much appreciated and cannot be underestimated. Teachers will be phoning and touching base with families over the next few weeks to check-in, see how the remote learning program has been going and get your perspectives on how your child has coped during these unique times. This information is highly valuable to us and we appreciate your thoughts and comments. Students in P-2 have spent this week writing recipes for their unit on procedure writing! We have also spent some more time learning about Number Patterns and Skip-Counting, with a particular focus on problem solving and critical thinking. We continue to enjoy seeing the wonderful work that is being uploaded by our students to Class Dojo each day. Lincoln’s completed Sudoku puzzles!

On Wednesday Year 1 and 2 students wrote an Apple Cake Recipe for handwriting practise.

Jordan worked really hard on this maths

challenge! He was able to work out the

secret numbers all by himself.

This was a very tricky maths task. Jordan

explained his answer to a few other

students who were stuck, he was able to

help his friends to work out the answers.

Well done Jordan on your fantastic

effort and persistence in maths.

This week we received some more clarity on the return to school, with P-2 returning on the 26th May and 3-6 set to return on 9th June. This means online learning will continue for another three weeks within our department. Once again it has been pleasing to see the understanding and effort of our students and supporting parents/guardians. We have continued to learn and develop skills at a rapid pace that previously may not have been. Upon reflection, students have been able to learn the skills of making predictions and finding word meaning in context within reading, have learnt eleven persuasive techniques which have been used in their weekly Big Writes and have learnt about the operations, patterns and algebra and fractions and decimals within the mathematics domain. Students have also continued to be able to enjoy PE, Science, LOTE and Art if they have chosen too. It is no secret that this has been achievable due to the hard work of our Cobden school community. Teachers, parents/guardians and students are to be commended for the efforts they have put in. We look forward to continuing to provide a quality education online before moving back to some form of normality; albeit with changes that may improve education at school. It is a timely reminder to not become complacent to ensure our students continue to prosper and that the broader community/society remains safe. Once again thank-you for your support. This week we have shared more student highlights from the online learning and taken a closer look at two students from Miss Gaut’s room.
