Why not consider signing up for electronic giving. FBC relies on the financial support of the congregation and electronic giving offers an easy way to give once or on a recurring ba-sis. To give electronically, visit www.fbc-tempe.org and locate the link to the electronic giving page.

“It is more difficult to give money away intelligently than it is to earn it in the first place.”

(Andrew Carnegie, American Industrialist and Philanthropist)

“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” (Winston Churchill, British Wartime Prime Minister and Statesman)

No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.”

(Calvin Coolidge, 30th US President)

Practical Advice About Giving . . .

If you are wondering about how much to give to your church and how much to give to other places: A good practice is to give 10 percent of my main source of income to my local church (i.e., your main income goes to support the work of your main source of Christian fellowship and teaching). I then set aside 10 percent or more of God’s extra provisions and financial blessings that He brings into my life so I can give to missionaries, projects and the needy as the Lord prompts me to give.

For the safe-

ty and security of eve-ryone, your backpack or bag may be inspected.

Thanks for your cooper-ation!

Help FBC Meet Its Budget

We appreciate your faithful giving to FBC and its ministries.

God is doing many good things at our church. Pray for the economy in America.

We need $25,227.00 each week to meet our budget.

Worship Service Tech Workers

Needed

Due to moves and health issues we are in serious need of new Tech Workers to run our

Sound, Lighting, Media and Camera Stations for all three morning services, as well as our evening service. If you have a desire to serve our Lord Jesus in these areas, we need you greatly. Our worship services cannot happen without dedicated volunteers to serve these vital tech positions. We will train you on whichever tech station you would like to serve. Please contact Pastor Roger Ball at 602-402-5309 or email him at [email protected] or Julie Huver at [email protected].

Looking for Beauty

There is so much beauty around us, if we will only take the time to notice it. You can make a conscious effort to look for the essence and therefore develop an appreciation for the beautiful things in life. Your days will seem a lot less harried, I promise you. Beauty has a way of totally capturing our senses, making us forget the fact

that the car stalled on the way to work this morning, that the kids spilled chocolate milk on the carpet or that the workload keeps piling up. For a few brief shining moments, nothing else seems to matter. And the wonderful thing about beauty is that we can store it in our minds to be played over and over again.

Kid City Needs YOU . . .

Kid City has the unique privilege of being some of the first people to introduce children to Jesus. Research has proven that kids tend to be more receptive to the Gospel than any other age group. Because of this, we view our program as a critical element in the foundation of a child’s spiritual development. Would you like to be part of a ministry that is first in line to say to these precious boys and girls “Jesus loves YOU!”?

Would you prayerfully consider serving in Kid City? No prior experience or preparation is needed when you serve. 9:30 Hour - Special Needs (2 Sundays per month)

• Why you should attend

the Sacred Word

Conference . . Bill Baggenstoss writes . . . One of the reasons I am looking forward

to the upcoming Sacred Word Conference is that it will help us deal with myths about the Bible like the two with which Liz and I were confronted this past summer. We are on a motorcycle trip with another couple and the subject of Jesus’ teaching came up. He said something like, “Well the New Testament really isn’t Jesus’ teaching because it was written by people who had not even heard Jesus teach.” Then she said something like, “And the Bible has been revised over the centuries to accommodate contemporary thought, so it no longer reflects Jesus’ original teaching.” The Sacred Word Conference should help us better deal with these types of myths and misinformation about the Bible that are common in our society today.

“What Is True Worship?”

February 2, 2020 Dr. Roger Ball

[email protected]

One day Jesus stopped at a road side drinking fountain called Jacobs well. There he met a woman, total stranger, who studied and knew her Old Testament. This woman, rejected by society, had broken many laws against God. Jesus offers her eternal life and explains true worship to you and me. What is True Worship? John 4:11 - She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water? John 4:12 - You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?” John 4:13 - Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;

• Physical water will not ____________________ you.

John 4:14 - whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

• Jesus goes from physical to ____________________.

John 4:15 - The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.”

• People focus on the __________________________.

• Our default is _______________ and ______________.

• Jesus advances _______________________________. John 4:16 - He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.”

Page 19: 2020 General Fund Givings3.amazonaws.com/production.sermons.io/fbctempe/bulletins/2020-01-31/...-Master’s Praise hoir and Orchestra Rehearsal Thursday February 6 6:30 pm-Women’s

John 4:17 - The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; John 4:18 - for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

• Jesus knows everything about us and _________________ us anyway.

John 4:19 - The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. John 4:20 - Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”

• She elevates people, places and tradition.

• Jesus shifts from the physical again to the spiritual. John 4:21 - Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

• True worship is not ______________, but ____________.

• True worship addresses ________________________. John 4:22 - You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

• False worship is _____________________.

John 4:23 - But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

• True worship is _________________ and ______________

• God the Father seeks _________________________ John 4:24 - God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John 4:25 - The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”

• She knows the Old Testament …

• But she does not know the Messiah is talking to her… John 4:26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” Four Implications and Applications #1 - No true religion ___________________________ #2 - No true worship ____________________________ John 5:23 - “Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.” John 5:42 - Jesus said, “I know that you do not have the love of God within you. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me.” #3 - True worship begins with ________________________ John 4:24 - God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” #4. True worship needs the _______________________ John 3:6 - “That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
