The COVID-19 pandemic is placing unprecedented pressure on charities. That’s why Giving Tuesday organisers have arranged #GivingTuesdayNow – a global day of action on 5 May to drive generosity and help charities continue their vital work. People, businesses and non-profits around the world will be taking part by donating and fundraising – and you can join them.

Charities need us – all of us – more than ever, and so we’ve put together this #GivingTuesdayNow starter pack for anyone who wants to lend their support during these challenging times. Whether you’re a first-time fundraiser or a charity champion, this is your chance to make a difference.

WHAT IS GIVINGTUESDAYNOW?

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Doing good doesn’t have to be difficult. You can help your favourite charity without leaving your sofa when you start your own #stayathomechallenge fundraising project on GivenGain!

What will convince your supporters and followers to donate? Think about your skills and get inventive! You can take a dare or a challenge (for example – shaving your head!), livestream a fundraising event or take part in a virtual event. The only limit is your imagination!

Choosing your #stayathomechallenge for charity

If you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve put together a few of our own. Click here to read our blog post of fun fundraising projects for you to try. Once you have chosen your #stayathomechallenge for charity, it’ll be time to start your #GivingTuesdayNow fundraising project – which you can see how to do on the next page.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISING

Tell your storyCommunication is key and passion is power. Tell your visitors why you are fundraising and what their support will help the charity to achieve. Better yet, say it in a YouTube video!

Share your project linkTell friends, family and co-workers about your project through personal e-mails, word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter or your blog. Always include a link to your project page.

Thank your donorsKeep your donors motivated – take the time to thank each one individually when they make a donation. This often gets more donations.

Provide regular updates and keep askingLet your followers know how your fundraising project is going, whether it is preparing for a race or reaching an important milestone. Always include an ask in your update.

Mobilise your networkAs the saying goes, “1 plus 1 equals 11”. Raise the visibility of your project by asking your network to spread the word about it!
