Financial Aid What is Financial Aid?Financial aid provides funding for qualified students through a variety of sources, each with its own eligibility and application guidelines. Our staff will help you navigate the financial aid process, such as filing applications for federal programs and completing required loan documents. Most financial aid forms can be completed online at home or in our Student Services Office.

What Types of Federal Financial Aid are Available?Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools offer students enrolled in full-time credentialed programs four types of Federal Student Aid: Pell Grants, Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, and Direct Parent Loan to Undergraduate Student (PLUS).

Pell Grant - A Federal Pell Grant is based on financial need. This grant is part of the Title IV entitlement of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Since the Federal Pell Grant is an entitlement, it does not have to be repaid, if the student completes his/her program.

Contact the Financial Aid AdministratorMandy Smith [email protected] (614) 836.4541 www.EastlandFairfield.com

Direct Unsubsidized Loan - Eligibility for this loan is not based on financial need. The borrower can pay the interest while in school, during grace and deferment periods, or the interest can be accrued and added to the principal at the time of repayment.

Direct Parent Loan to Undergraduate Student (PLUS) - The Direct PLUS Loan is not based on financial need, but the borrower must be creditworthy. The amount of a PLUS loan cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance minus other financial aid.

Other Financial AidFinancial assistance may be available to students from one or more of the following government programs:

• Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities

• Trade Adjustment Act

• Veteran Benefits

• Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

We also offer payment plans.

Federal Direct Student Loans - Students and parents can apply for three types of Federal Direct Loans, including: Subsidized, Unsubsidized, and Parent PLUS. Each of these loans have a fixed interest rate and can be repaid over a period of 10-25 years, depending on the repayment plan you choose. Interest rates for all Federal Direct Loans are set each spring for new loans being made in the upcoming award year. These rates are tied to financial markets and are fixed for the life of the loan.

The amounts that students can borrow are determined by their dependency status. Student borrowers are not required to undergo a credit check. Parent borrowers must apply for PLUS loans and their credit is checked during that process. Students whose parents are turned down for PLUS loans may be able to borrow more money than their dependency status normally permits.

Direct Subsidized Loan - A Direct Subsidized Loan is available to eligible students with financial need. The Federal Government pays the interest on the loan while the student is in school or in the grace period following the class. The student is allowed a six month grace period after leaving school before repayment must begin. Students who first borrowed subsidized loans after July 1, 2013 can only receive subsidized loans for 150 percent of the published length of their current program.

Learning, Studying, and Test TakingSuccessfully completing a program and starting a new career are big milestones in one’s life. Three things that can have a huge impact on your ability to succeed are: learning the material and skills, study habits, and the ability to retain information. These areas can be challenging for some students, but the instructors and student services staff are here to assist.

Barrier InterventionHurdles in any area of life can get in the way of your ability to do well in school and at work. It’s important to address practical issues like finances, housing, medical and dental care, child care, and transportation to maintain good attendance and concentrate on your studies. The Career Counselor assists students with managing or overcoming barriers that may impede succeeding in school or in the workplace.

Please connect with the Career Counselor if you have any concerns.

4. Follow up with educators - It is important that the student communicate with his/her instructors about the specifics of his/her accommodations. Examples might include determining arrangements for extended time testing and/or testing in a private testing area, etc.

5. Contact Student Services for further assistance – If the accommodation(s) a student is currently receiving should be revisited, or should a student encounter resistance to the accommodations for which they are eligible, he/she should contact the Student Services Career Counselor.

Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools’ officers, agents, and financial aid professionals will act, speak, and behave with students, co-workers, and the public in a manner that exemplify the school’s policies of inclusion, fairness, and honesty.

Any student who is not in agreement with the reasonable accommodations they are afforded may request an informal review by the Adult Workforce Development Director or utilize the Section 504 Grievance procedure.

Contact the Career CounselorLisa Duckworth [email protected] (614) 836.4541 www.EastlandFairfield.com

Procedures for Requesting Reasonable AccommodationsIt is the responsibility of the student to submit all necessary documentation of a disability for review prior to receiving any accommodations. EFCTS-AWD requires documentation be comprehensive and reflective of the student’s current functioning.

1. Provide documentation - EFCTS-AWD accepts documentation from treating professionals as valid if the date of the service/testing is within three to five years from the time of admission into the program. A copy of the student’s high school IEP or 504 Transition plan can prove helpful. Student Services will review the documentation and identify, in consultation with the student, on a case-by-case basis, the range of reasonable accommodations.

2. Request accommodation - The student must meet with the Career Counselor to request an accommodation. Services and accommodations will not be offered until a student makes this request and attends this meeting. It is in the student’s best interest to make this request as early as possible.

3. Receive a letter of accommodation - Once the request is received and analyzed with the student, the Career Counselor will generate a letter to be provided to the Student’s educators outlining what reasonable accommodation(s) has/have been determined to be appropriate.

The Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Adult Workforce Development (EFCTS-AWD) is committed to providing an accessible environment for all its students in both academic and non-academic programs as required by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Students with disabilities have the right to:• Access courses, programs, services, activities,

and facilities

• Work, learn, and receive reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, and/or auxiliary aids and services

• Confidentiality about their disability, except as disclosures are required/permitted by law.

Train at your facility… or our facilityWe have education centers located minutes from downtown Columbus or Lancaster. Each center includes state-of-the-art computer labs and meeting rooms with easy access from major interstates and highways. Our instructors will travel! When the need exists, our instructors are able to travel to your facility to provide on-site training. We recognize the fact that some training should occur in the same work environment as the work itself. We also recognize the challenges of forcing employees to travel away from work for training.
