Welcome to Ravello Concert SocietyThe “Princess Concerts” - organized to commemorate the visit of the Princess Maria José of Savoy who came to Ravello in 1933 - was the first music festival to be promoted by the Ravello Concert Society. Since then, thanks to the support of its audience, RCS has become more and more well established and strong in order to guarantee a yearly planning of events as long-lasting as possible and not dependent on public funding. Eventually RCS has developed a growing local, national and international reputation as an arts promoter, offering events with a promise of great music in casual but stimulating environments, an ear for contemporary music and refreshing concert formats.
The 2020 wide-ranging programme will be rounded off by well-established event series.
The cycle of Theme evenings, to name a few: “Oh qual meraviglia! The mandolin from Naples to Venice and beyond the Alps” (17 April - a pro Kiwanis concert); J.S Bach’s Goldberg Variations performed by the pianist Raffaele Maisano (1 June); the second concert of the series “Mozart de Poche”, Mozart’s Piano Concertos transcribed for piano & string quartets (8 June). We will spend a “Spanish Evening” with the guitarist Gianluigi Giglio on 12 September, while on 9 October the Musikanten Piano Trio will homage the “fairer sex” featuring some of the most appreciated female music authors like Clara Wieck-Schumann, Cécile Chaminade and Fanny Mendelssohn. A special eye for Beethoven, in the year of the 250th anniversary of his birth: the “Happy 250th Birthday Mr Beethoven!” concert series will celebrate the German composer on 3 April and 26 September (Ager Piano Trio), 15 May (piano recital by Fabrizio Romano), 20 June (piano recital by Giuseppe Maiorca, 28 September (piano recital by Cinzia Dato), 26 October (Hadimova String Quartet).
And, again, the “Contaminations”: music resists categorization and brings us together opening our minds to discovery, innovation and reflection. Then, let’s go on contaminating with 16 events, which feature an appealing and original crossover of classic, jazz, modern and pop music.
Here are some highlights: the Fusion Ensemble presents “The fantastic 70’s for Sax and String Quartet” (15 June); the Musikanten Piano Trio plays the Beatles (6 July), featuring some of the most loved songs by the Fab Four; the pianist Luca Mennella performs “All around ragtime” (6 August), a concert to come back to the ragtime era starting from a music book forgotten by a traveller at the beginning of the 1900’s in a hotel in Ravello. On 2 September the same performer will get inspiration from the starry September nights and showcase the most famous piano pieces with the moon as protagonist. On 10 October the two-piano duo composed by Raffaele Maisano and Mattia Mistrangelo will make us feel like we were kids again improvising on some of the most famous songs from Disney movies. Last but not least: Mistrangelo will be again on stage with a Homage to Bill Evans in the 40th anniversary of his death (12 October).
Ranging from classical music to jazz, latin and pop contaminations, all events are spectacular as the environment we present and produce them in.
Come and discover our impressing venues, cosy atmosphere and great acoustic in locations full of history and culture. At RCS there are always interesting, engaging music. In addition, there is always the chance to make new friends, meet the artists and escape from your to-do list for an hour or two.

You can easily reach the Annunziata following the footpath (Via della Annunziata) on the left of Villa Rufolo tower in Ravello main square (Piazza Duomo) and walking down (...and up..!) 91 steps. Another 90 steps downward will take you to a drivable road (Via della Repubblica). In case you booked a taxi, you can ask the driver to pick you up on this road at the end of the concert. Most of Ravello’s historical and artistic sites can be reached only going up and down on foot. We apologize, but the Amalfi Coast has been growing vertically over the centuries and that makes it so beautiful!
The Ravello Art Center is located in Gradillo Street no. 1, near St Maria a Gradillo Church.
Bus and Taxi: Amalfi (5 Km far from Ravello) is the main bus terminal. From Amalfi there are many connections to other towns of the coast: 1h 10’ to Salerno, 1h 40’ to Sorrento, 50’ to Positano and 25’ to Ravello. The bus timetable is available at www.sitasudtrasporti.itA list of suggested taxi drivers is available on the Ravello Concert Society web site (www.ravelloarts.org).
Car: Coming from Naples, leave the motorway A3(E45) Napoli-Salerno at Angri SUD gate following the indications to Costiera Amalfitana and “Valico di Chiunzi” pass (SP1 road). Coming from Salerno, on A3 (E45) exit at Nocera gate to reach Ravello through the “Valico di Chiunzi” pass.Coming from the Coast you have to drive along the SS163 “Amalfitana” road. This is a very panoramic but winding road where traffic jams are frequent on week-ends and holidays.
Car Parking: We suggest the “Piazza Duomo” hourly rate public parking near Ravello’s main square.
On Foot & by Bike: If you are staying nearby, you can also reach Ravello walking along the many footpaths which, starting from the coast, climb up to the village on a hill at 365m. Ravello is the starting point of several trails, which are part of a network of about 100 itineraries in the regional Park of Lattari Mountains. Some itineraries are also suitable for mountain bikes. A group of bikers is locally active: for further information write to [email protected]. A cycle stand is located in Piazza Duomo, on the right side of the Ravello Arts Council Box Office.

If you’re of the writing breed, you probably keep a small notebook on hand to scratch down story ideas. Or maybe, you become impulsively entwined in writing the premise of a story in your phone’s notes. Ravello Tales is an award given each year by the European University Centre for Cultural Heritage and the Ravello-Scala Tourist Board, to promote unpublished short narratives inspired by the history, events, characters or places of Ravello. Anyone can compete sending - by the 15th of November 2020 - a short narrative in English inspired by Ravello (12.000 words as an indication) together with his/her bionote (150 words). The award will consist of the publication of the winning short narrative, plus a 1-week stay in Ravello for two persons. Additional narratives, even if not awarded, may be included in the final publication, at the Tourist Board discretion. Follow your inspiration, submit
before the deadline and keep writing! See the Call for Ravello Tales Award 2019 and download “When Giuseppe met Jackie” by Lesley Synge, the winner of 2018 Ravello Tales Award on www.visitravello.com
Save 25% purchasing the Pass to the most important historical sites of Amalfi & Ravello: Amalfi Arsenal Mu-seum, Paper Mill Museum, Villa Cimbrone Gardens, Museum of Ravello Cathedral and the Archaeological site of the Trinity Convent. Concert venues
The Annunziata Historic Building is located just beyond the Villa Rufolo Park: its world famous domes are the landmark of Ravello and its Music Festival. The Annunziata was built in 1281 by the noble family Fusco and later became part of the Rufolo family estate. In 1851 Villa Rufolo was bought by Sir Nevile Reid, a Scottish botanist. He restored the Villa to its antique splendour, adding rare plants to its gardens. A new restoration work was carried out in 1982-1983, bringing the Historic Building to its original Romanesque style. Since then the structure, with its two Recital Halls connected by a porch, has been used for our concerts.
The Ravello Art Center - at the former Grand Caruso Wine Cellars, dating back to the end of 19th cent. - is a purpose restored recital hall for chamber music which is integrated with an exhibition space. It is very close to Ravello’s main square, about 50 meters from the parking lot, and hosts all two-piano concerts.
Concert Tickets
Numbered seats: € 27.50 (children under 14s: € 12.50, students under 26s: € 17.50), fees included. It is preferable to book on the web. Or it is possible to purchase tickets at the Ravello Arts Council Box Office in the main square and at the Tourist Information Office. You can also buy tickets at the door on concert night, if available (venue opens 30 minutes before each performance). Virtual Ticket: € 12,50 to download, when available, the concert’s live recording. The concerts last about one hour and half, including the intermission. Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break during the performance.
Tickets Exchange
Tickets are non-refundable (except in the event that the performance is cancelled). However, tickets may be exchanged up to 48 hours before the event for a different concert.
Live recordings
We record all concerts for future CD release. The recordings are not designed to document perfection, but to capture the excitement of the
live concert experience. Ask at the box office about the availability for the concert that you have just attended or write to [email protected] for past recordings.
Feedback
Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Let us know your opinion about organisation, venue, music programme and artistic performance: write to [email protected].
Free WiFi
Free Wifi Service provided by the UK Company Purple WiFi Ltd is available inside the Annunziata and around the Box Office. Search for RCS Free WiFi and stay connected with your friends!
Dress code
Don’t worry, you do not need to bring an evening dress in your baggage. Casual wear is the rule.
Concert & Dinner
On the evening of the concert almost all restaurants in Ravello apply a 15% discount for concert ticket holders. An updated list is available on the Ravello Concert Society web site.
Local ProductsThe “sfusato amalfitano” lemon is the most renown among the local products and the “limoncello” liquor is made by infusing the lemon peel in alcohol. During the concert intermission a free taste of limoncello is offered by the local producer “I Giardini di Ravello” (www.igiardinidiravello.it).

on Cultural tourism
There are places in the world where, even if you don’t want to, you would bump into.
On the contrary there are others so hidden and remote that you would struggle to get to.
There are crowded, noisy places that would bring you into isolation
and there are others so silent and quiet that invite you to pleasantly mingle with people.
There are places which are fully-equipped, but cold and impersonal
and others where any single stone would reveal history and traditions in a cosy and intimate atmosphere.
If you are looking for such a treasure and rare venue, you’ve got it.
