Kwangwoon University was founded in 1934 by Professor Kwang Woon Cho.

He had previously founded Chosun Radio Training center, with the belief that

electronic engineering and the electronic industry would lead academics and

industries in the future. This led him to establish Kwangwoon University as we

know it today, under the founding philosophies of diligence, frugality, exploration

and the educational values of veritas and lux.

Kwangwoon University has been leading the way in the advancement of

information communication and the electronic industry in Korea for over 80 years

since its foundation. And our alumni have fulfilled their excellent jobs in an era

calling for modernization and industrialization. Numerous moving stories involving

our Kwangwoon alumni serve as testament.

Now, Kwangwoon University is making a big leap to become the school that the

world and everyone desires through a strategy called ‘Glocal Multi-University’.

Our university will become a school where its members can freely communicate

based on mutual trust, concentrate capabilities for world and regional

advancement, and serve as the core for the era of the fourth industrial revolution.

Furthermore, our university will lead the way in meeting various social demands

including R&D, academic-industrial cooperation, job training, lifelong education,

and contributions to local society and rise to the top university in Korea.

We hope for your consideration and encouragement as our university takes

steps forward into the future.

President of Kwangwoon University

Ji Sang Yoo, Engineering, Ph. D

Greetings from the president
