THE ASSOCIATION

The International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners (IAC&ME) has over 80 years of experience in the presentation of educational seminars for the purpose of assisting Coroners and Medical Examiners and other forensic specialists in the performance of their duties. This commitment is enshrined in the Association’s mission statement, “The International Association of Coroners & Medical Examiners is committed to advancing the accurate determination of the cause and the manner of death through the utilization of science, medicine and the law.” This training symposium will bring together leaders in medicolegal death investigations to one location for training and education. Course Description

This Basic MDI course is designed for medicolegal death investigators, and is intended to familiarize them with the operation of a medicolegal death investigation system, and the role of a medicolegal death investigator.

Topics presented will provide a medicolegal investigator a solid foundation. The training provided will give the attendee the basic information and expertise required to conduct death scene investigations as a medicolegal death investigator.

Topics will cover the basic and provides advanced training for those already working in the fi eld.

Course Description

New for 2019, the Forensic Anthropology and Odontology: Filling the Knowledge Gap Workshop will be a thorough didactic review and hands-on workshop covering the key areas of these topics. The didactic portion of the course will include top-ics such as the biological profi le construction from skeletal remains, and dental age estimation in sub-adult and adult individuals. It will also include the evaluation and coding of critical dental features utilized by WinID, UDIM, NamUs and INTERPOL’s Plass DVI software. The course will also highlight some of the fundamentals diff erences between Disaster Victim Identifi cation (DVI) and daily morgue opera-tion. The extensive hands-on sessions will cover the processing of forensic anthropology methods on human remains, computer-assisted dental identifi cation and dental age estimation. The course will also discuss the process for becoming a Diplomate in the American Board of Foren-sic Odontology (D-ABFO). Finally, it will include a Q and A session where participants are welcome to bring their cases to present them in an open discussion among all speakers and participants.

Hands On WorkshopThe hands-on workshop of the anthropological section will utilize skeletal remains to implement laboratory methods to estimate sex, ancestry, age, stature. It will also cover the recognition and analysis of pathological conditions as well as taphonomy.

The hands-on forensic odontology workshop will include the processing of remain as well as multiple computer workstations to familiarize the attendees with the software and websites utilized in the United State for the coding and identifying of individuals by dental means.

Curriculum ObjectivesThe Attendees of the course will:

• Understand the role that forensic anthropology and odontology plays in medicolegal investigations of death.

• Understand the forensic anthropology and odontology methods used for the identifi cation process.

• Understand the role that forensic odontology plays in mass fatality victim identifi cations.

• Understand the forensic odontology methods for dental-age estimation.

• Understand the process to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Odontology (D-ABFO).

• Use hands-on workshops with teaching specimens and computer software to demonstrate the concepts learned in the lectures.

The FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY AND ODONTOLOGY: FILL-ING THE KNOWLEDGE GAP WORKSHOP is being given jointly with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medi-cine which is accredited by CERP to provide continuing dental education for dentists, hygienists, and RDA.

If you wish to receive CERP credit there is a $40 processing fee per student. CE credit of (8) hours will be awarded for each day of attendance and will be payable on site by check or cash.
