This year in celebration of the 200th

anniversary of the Christmas carol “Silent

Night”, we will sing this beautiful carol in all

three services! All services will serve

Communion & have candlelight.

When I think about going to sleep at night, I think about my wonderful bed. Well there are many in Valdosta who go without a bed every night. Our homeless bedrolls are a 3 foot by 6 foot crocheted bedroll for unsheltered homeless people to use to keep them off of the ground. Whether it is wet, cold, or hard ground, it gives them a bit of

cushion to help them sleep with some comfort. These bedrolls are incredibly durable, easy to carry, and can been cleaned very easily. Bedrolls are made completely from donated plastic grocery bags. Each bed takes about 500 bags. Once the bags have been donated, volunteers flatten them into stacks of 10, then cuts them into 4 strips each. Strips are then tied together to make Plarn (plastic yarn) balls. Finally, the plarn is crocheted into a bedroll. In the four short months since this ministry started, volunteers have crocheted 14 bedrolls with 6 being crocheted at this moment!!! So that means you as a church have donated over 10,000 bags!!! We have been told that the immediate need in Valdosta is 26 bedrolls, so we are over halfway to that number. One of our Crochet angels, Sarah Booth, says, “It is

an honor and privilege to lovingly serve others. While crocheting, I pray for the

well-being of the person that will receive the bedroll. I hope they feel the comfort

and love of God, every time they use it.” Jennifer Sumner, one of our plarning angels, said, “I love watching people from all areas of our church come together

for a common cause. While binding together plastic yarn to provide comfort for the

homeless, we are binding together the hearts of our family in Christ.” What a wonderful family we have here at Park Avenue. Tina Folsom, one of our cutting angels, said, “Thankful to be a small part of serving others through this ministry – I

have enjoyed working with members of the church who I have not worked with

before and getting to know them on Wednesdays – It has brought the young/in

between/ and old together – something to do for all ages and skill levels.” This truly is a ministry that everyone can be a part of, and if you have walked past the Jars of Clay Sunday School room on Wednesday afternoon, I guarantee you hear lots of laughter, fellowship, and a group of people who love this ministry. Sandra Lindsey, one of our flattening angels, said, “It’s an opportunity

to be Gods hands and feet to those in need. It is also a small way

to say thank you to God for His love, mercy, and grace.”

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable,

always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your

toil is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

Merry Christmas from the Plarning Angels!!!
