FSU VS. PITTFlorida State is unbeaten in its five previous matches against Pitt, dating back to 2013. The Seminoles have outscored the Panthers 17-1, including a pair of shutouts in the two matches played in Pittsburgh.

FSU VS. VIRGINIAThe Seminoles trail Virginia 6-19-6 in the all-time series against the Cavaliers, including a 2-16-4 mark in ACC play. FSU has not defeated UVA in Klöckner Stadium, posting a 0-9-1 mark in 10 matches, with the lone tie coming on October 4, 2007.

Each of the last two meetings have ended in a draw - a 2-2 tie in the 2015 ACC Championship Game and a 1-1 tie in 2016 in Tallahassee.

CHASING RECORDSJunior forward Deyna Castellanos has been a prolific goal scorer throughout her young career, earning the Golden Boot at the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and the Bronze Boot in 2016 to set the all-time record for goals scored in U-17 World Cup history at 11.

She has brought that same level to Tallahassee as the Venezuela native is already among the top 10 in program history in three categories, in just her third season in the Garnet and Gold.

Castellanos ranks second on the team with five goals scored in 2018, which gives her 31 for her career and ranks sixth in FSU history. Her 11 game-winning goals are tied for fourth-most ever at Florida State, while her seven multi-goal games are the third-highest for a Seminole soccer player.

SPREADING THE WEALTHThe Seminoles have had a lot of success this season offensively as FSU has scored 30 goals through the first 15 games of the season. What makes it difficult for opponents to stop, however, is that those 30 goals have been scored by 13 different players so far this season.

The 13 different goal scorers already ranks in a tie for eighth in program history and exceeds the 11 goal scorers from the entire 2017 season. There are four players that have previously scored collegiate goals that have not yet scored in 2018 - Gloriana Villalobos, Gabby Carle, Macayla Edwards and Taylor Hallmon.

ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEKFlorida State freshmen Yujie Zhao was outstanding in the midfield for the Seminoles in matches against No. 7 USC and No. 2 UCLA, which earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on September 4.

The Shanghai, China native facilitated the FSU offense and defense that held the Trojans to just six shots, and four in regulation, in the scoreless draw on Friday. On Sunday, Zhao was involved in three of the four FSU goals as the Noles domintated the Bruins with a 4-1 win. Zhao assisted on the first goal of the game on a header by Anna Patten and later found Kristen McFarland to make it 3-1 early in the second half. Zhao closed out the scoring in the game with a blast from 25 yards in the 89th minute.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 11 after recording a pair of shutouts against Florida (1-0) and South Alabama (2-0). She recorded a total of five saves in the two wins.

FRESH PRODUCEFlorida State freshmen have done a great job at transitioning to the next level as the newcomers have scored 11 of FSU’s 30 goals this season and have combined to make 64 starts. Yujie Zhao leads the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Kristina Lynch is tied for the third-leading goal scorer with three. Jaelin Howell and Kirsten Pavlisko have each scored one goal apiece, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger has helped post nine clean sheets in the first 15 matches of the season.

COMING OFF THE BENCHFor many players that come to Florida State, they are not used to coming off the bench, as they have often been one of the best players on their teams growing up. With 24 players that includes a mix of talent from all over the world, it can be difficult to strike into the starting XI, but for those that may not be out there for the opening whistle, they have still been able to stay focused and execute when they have entered the game as nine of Florida State’s 30 goals, and four of its 26 assists, have been scored by non-starters, including two goals each against Troy, at Wisconsin and versus Middle Tennessee.

EVERYONE GETS INVOLVEDFlorida State’s 13 individual goal scorers also ranks in a tie for fourth in the NCAA this season, trailing only Mercer (16), Stanford (14) and Virginia (14).

MULTI-POINT GAMESFreshman Kristina Lynch found the back of the net on two occasions on August 19 in a 5-0 win over Troy for her first collegiate goal and first multi-goal game. It is the second year in a row that a freshman has recorded a multi-goal game.

Redshirt sophomore Malia Berkely aided on two of the three goals on August 26 in FSU’s 3-0 win over Middle Tennessee. She started the play for the game’s first goal by Jaelin Howell in the eighth minute with a deep run down the right side, while her corner kick in the 63rd minute found Dallas Dorosy in the middle of the box for a perfect header.

Yujie Zhao helped the Seminoles record a dominant 4-1 win over No. 2 UCLA on September 2 by tallying two assists and scoring a goal of her own.

Deyna Castellanos recorded the seventh multi-goal match of her career on September 20 against Virginia Tech, putting two in the back of the net in FSU’s 3-0 win over the Hokies.

Castellanos and Kaycie Tillman each posted a goal and an assist in FSU’s 4-0 win on the road at Notre Dame on September 27.

LOCK DOWN DEFENSEThe Seminoles have been outstanding on the defensive end this season, allowing just seven goals through the first 15 matches, including one on a penalty kick and another on an own goal, but what is also impressive is how few chances the opposing teams have had.

Florida State has outshot its opponents in 14 of 15 games on the year, and has put 123 shot on goal to its opponents’ 34. The average time of the first shot on goal by FSU opponents in 2018 is 33:55, including Wisconsin that didn’t have a shot on goal for the entire match, and Vanderbilt, Troy and Wake Forest that didn’t record a shot on goal in the first half.

NO GOALS FOR YOU!With five shutouts to start the 2018 season, Florida State set a program record by not allowing a goal in the first 507:27 of play in 2018.

The five shutouts surpassed the previous record of three games set in 2009 (349:18), 2010 (343:23) and 2016 (294:23).

HOME SWEET HOMEFSU is 150-13-8 at home since 2005 when Mark Krikorian became head coach at Florida State.

The Noles are 82-5-5 in their last 92 matches played at home, dating back to 2011. FSU has 26 wins over ranked opponents over that time.

ROAD SWEET ROADThe Noles are also impressive away from the friendly confines of the Seminole Soccer Complex, posting a true road record of 27-11-8 since 2013, as well as a neutral mark of 11-4-2.

FSU has lost just 10 times in its last 39 road games - including nine one-goal matches with six against ranked teams - a 3-2 defeat at No. 14 UF on August 30, 2015, a 1-0 loss at No. 2 UVA on October 25, 2015, a 1-0 defeat at No. 16 North Carolina on October 27, 2016, falling 2-0 at No. 4 Duke on October 8, 2017, a 2-1 loss at No. 22 Wake Forest on October 15, 2017, dropping 1-0 at No. 1 Stanford 1-0 on November 19, 2017 and falling 2-1 at RV Boston College on Setpember 23, 2018.

AUGUST SUCCESSThe Seminoles continued their early season success with five games in the month of August. FSU owns an all-time record of 47-8-2 and is unbeaten in 41 of its last 44 matches played during the month of August. The Noles are 38-3-1 in August under head coach Mark Krikorian and have outscored their opponents 139-41 all-time in August with 32 shutouts.

NCAA STATSFlorida State enters the 10th weekend of the season with an 10-3-2 record and ranked No. 14 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches. As a team, the Seminoles are among the top 50 in the nation in nine different categories, including ranking eighth in the NCAA with a 0.453 goals against average.

Individually, four different Noles are among the Top 100 in the country in eight separate statistical categories, with redshirt freshman Brooke Bollinger ranked ninth in the NCAA with eight shutouts and her 0.456 goals against average is 11th-best in the nation. Malia Berkely’s six assists ranks No. 58 in the country, while Yujie Zhao is 62nd in the country with three game-winning goals.

CLEAN SHEET AUGUSTAfter finishing the month of August with a 4-0-1 record and not allowing a goal throughout the entire month, it marked the fifth time that the Seminoles have not surrendered a goal during the first month of the season.

The 2016, 2010 and 2009 teams all went 3-0-0 without a goal in the month of August, while the 2002 squad played to a scoreless draw in its only game in August. Honorable mention to the 1995 and 2007 teams that didn’t allow a goal in August, but primarily because those seasons started in September.

UNCONQUERED NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULEFor the first time since 2013, the Florida State ended its non-conference regular season schedule with an unbeaten record, posting a 7-0-1 mark through its eight non-conference games.

It marked the fifth time in program history - all under head coach Mark Krikorian - that the Seminoles did not lose a non-conference game, joining 2013 (5-0-2), 2012 (6-0-0), 2006 (8-0-0) and 2005 (8-0-0).

SHOOTING GALLERYThe Noles have dominated their opponents offensively this season and hold a 273-76 advantage in shots, but those shots have been very precise over the first seven weeks as 123 of them have been on goal, with 30 goals scored.

OPENING DAY UNDER KRIKORIANFlorida State is 18-5-1 all-time on opening day, including a mark of 12-1-1 when opening the season at home. The Noles are 13-1-0 on opening day under head coach Mark Krikorian, including a mark of 8-0-0 at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU has won 11 straight season openers, outscoring the opposition 27-3.

TDS PRESEASON BEST XITopDrawerSoccer released its 2018 Preseason Best XI teams, and Florida State had two members among the four different teams.

Junior Deyna Castellanos received a spot on the Best XI First Team, while newcomer Yujie Zhao was named to the Best XI Freshman Team.

It is the second year in a row that Castellanos has been chosen to the preseason teams.

FSU VERSUS THE ACCThe Seminoles currently have an all-time ACC record of 114-74-24.

Florida State is 93-28-18 in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU’s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is 57-9-6 against league opponents at home and 36-20-12 on the road.

FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 10 times (2005-10, 2012-15) over the last 13 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014).

FRESH FACESThe Seminoles welcome six newcomers to the squad in 2018, including five freshman and a redshirt senior transfer.

Freshmen Kristina Lynch (Granger, Ind.) and Yujie Zhao (Shanghai, China) started at Florida State for the Spring 2018 semester and were joined in the fall by Kirsten Pavlisko (Middleburg, Fla.), Jaelin Howell (Lone Tree, Colo.) and Makala Thomas (Los Angeles, Calif.)

Coming to Tallahassee for her last year of eligibility, Alexa Orrante (Chino Hills, Calif.) will play for the Seminoles after playing three years at CSU Bakersfield.

A quartet of Seminoles will see action in 2018 after not playing in 2017 as Malia Berkely, Kristen McFarland and Caroline Jeffers were all out with an injury, and Brooke Bollinger was redshirted as a true freshman.

SPRING 2018 EUROPE TRIPThrough generous support of its booster club and fans, the Florida State Soccer program was able to travel overseas for an 11-day tour throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and France on May 5-15.

The team played three games against local clubs - ADO Den Haag, Ghent and Paris Saint-Germain - while embarking on numerous cultural excursions and tours.

Highlights of the trip included visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the Palace of Versailles, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre.

ACC STANDINGSThe Seminoles are seventh in the conference with a 3-3-1 mark in ACC play and a 10-3-2 overall record after the ninth weekend of games in the 2018 season.

NOLES AT U-20 WORLD CUPFlorida State has a long history of student-athletes playing at the international level and this year was no different as a trio of Seminoles competed for their home countries at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Incoming freshmen Jaelin Howell (USA) and Yujie Zhao (China), along with sophomore Anna Patten (England) participated in the 16-team tournament in France throughout the month of August.

Howell started all three matches for the United States as they went 1-1-1 and did not qualify for the knockout stage. They lost a close game, 1-0, to group-winner Japan in the opening game and Howell was named ussoccer.com Woman of the Match.

Zhao scored a goal in China’s first match of the tournament in a win against Haiti, but China was eliminated on a stoppage time goal by Nigeria, for a 1-1 draw in the match, but Nigeria advanced to the knockout stage on goal differential.

Patten has started and played all 90 minutes in every match for England in the tournament as the Lionesses won their group after wins over defending champion Korea DPR and Mexico, along with a 1-1 draw against Brazil. England came from behind to post a 2-1 win against the Netherlands on August 17 to advance to the semifinals for the first time in program history. England lost to Japan, 2-0, in the semis and faced France on August 24 in the third-place match, taking home the bronze medal with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw.

DEYNA: INT’L AMBASSADORTaking advantage of not only her amazing on-field skills that have seen her earn accolades on the collegiate and international level, along with her celebrity that has given her 1.2 million followers on Instagram and 185,000 followers on Twitter, junior Deyna Castellanos has been representing the sport of women’s soccer throughout the world at various events.

She was named the CONMEBOL Women’s Football Ambassador for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that was held in Uruguay. Castellanos also traveled to Russia for the World Cup this summer as the FIFA Global Women’s Football Ambassador, helping promote the upcoming 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

MAC HERMANN TROPHYA pair of Seminole student-athletes earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy. Senior Natalia Kuikka and junior Deyna Castellanos were among the 45 players recognized.

It marked the second year in a row that both Kuikka and Castellanos were named to the Watch List.

It is the 15th straight season that the Seminoles have had a student-athlete named to the preseason Watch List and FSU has had at least two players selected 11 times in the last 13 seasons.

In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18).
