Sun Council takes child abuse seriously and will, along withour National Council, support those victims during and afterthe abuse. We as an organization have been, and continueto be, in the forefront of child protection and child advocacy. We have stressed 2-deep leadership in all of our programssince the late 1980's and require all of our leaders tocomplete Youth Protection Training before we allow them toregister to serve our youth. In fact, the BSA YouthProtection Training is often used by other organizations dueto its quality and effectiveness. two-deep leadership meansthat a minimum of 2 adults need to be present at allmeetings and activities. One on One contact is not allowed. Regarding the reports of possible bankruptcy, it should bemade clear that it is the National Council, BSA, not theMidnight Sun Council, that is the subject of the rumors of apossible bankruptcy restructuring. We are an affiliate of theNational Council, BSA. We participate in an external annualaudit by a third-party auditor. Funds raised in our Councilstay in our Council and are used to further the mission ofthe Midnight Sun Council, BSA here in the Interior andNorth Slope. The Midnight Sun Council, BSA prides itself onhaving a balanced budget for years and substantial reservefunds to support the Scouting Programs for the familiesserved by the Midnight Sun Council. While the media articles state that the National Council,BSA is considering bankruptcy, it has not filed forbankruptcy. Decisions on dealing with the costs of litigationand claims have been, and continue to be, discussed by theNational Board. Bankruptcy, while never taken lightly, is afinancial restructuring, not a demise of the organization. Programs of the Boy Scouts of America will continueuninterrupted here in the Midnight Sun Council, around thecountry, and overseas where the Boy Scouts of Americaserve. We look forward to keeping you updated as news developson our National Council's challenges. Sincerely, Robert Stephen F. OFFICE AND SCOUT SHOPOPENING HOURS! Monday - Friday9AM - 5PM Saturday/Sunday: CLOSED

Dec 24-25 Scout Shop and Officeclosed for Christmas

Charter Certificate Printing Requirements***

The BSA is committed to streamlining basic operations byputting tools in the hands of volunteers. For several yearsnow, individuals and unit key 3 have had access to printmembership cards through my.Scouting. In addition, functionality will be added to my.Scouting by January 1,2019, to enable members of the unit key 3 to print their unitCharter Certificate.

This "self-service" functionality allows volunteers to printmembership cards and the unit charter certificate in a timelymanner and enhances the onboarding experience for newyouth and adults.

Effective January 1, 2019, councils will no longer be requiredto print and mail membership cards to council and districtvolunteers and traditional Scouting units. This is a changeto the council membership validation requirement. Inaddition, councils will no longer print and deliver unit chartercertificates.

For Learning for Life groups, Exploring Posts and Clubs, asof January 1, 2019, this will no longer be a membershipvalidation requirement.

Units should be prepared to print their unit membershipcards and charter certificate for the current renewal period.

For those who have difficulty in printing membership cardsand charter certificates, please contact the Midnight SunCouncil Office at 907-452-1976 and we will assist you.

When is Scout Sunday 2019?

The BSA's Calendar of Religious Dateslists Feb. 10, 2019, as "Scout Sunday, interfaith." It lists Feb. 17, 2019, as "Scout Sunday,United Methodist."

But those are just guidelines. The BSAsays a local church may celebrate "onthe Sunday most acceptable to thepastor and congregation." So checkwith your chartered organizationrepresentative or faith leader.

Depending on your faith organization,Scout Sunday could be held anySunday in February. It could be Feb. 3,Feb. 10, Feb. 17 or even Feb. 24.

In the past, Scout Sunday was alwaysheld on the Sunday before the birthdayof the BSA on Feb. 8. Realizing thateach chartered organization has aunique schedule of worship, the BSAno longer uses that guideline.

Though the National JewishCommittee on Scouting hasdesignated Feb. 8-9 as Scout Sabbathfor 2019, some councils or units willcelebrate the occasion on other days.

You're advised to check with your

Banquet on December 12, celebrating the accomplishmentsof Steve and Jo Heckman.

Each year the past honorees are invited to choose a newrecipient. Although they don't need to be involved in ourScouting Community, they often are. Jo and Steve areinvolved in our Scouting Community and it showedthroughout the dinner.

They chose Camp Scholarships as their special project andraised over $28,000. Jo and Steve are hoping their projectwill assist getting Scouts to camp for many years tocome. For more information on this wonderful couple, please visit our website for a more information.
