Welcome
D E A R F R I E N D,
What does hope and faith mean to you? Over 14 years ago we were in the fight of our
lives as Phil laid on his hospital bed in the midst of his cancer battle. There were many
days where hope and our faith were the only things that brought us through the day.
Despite what cancer was doing to us and our families, cancer would never take away
the peace we had found in God’s promises.
During our journey we were blessed to have loved ones support and encouragement.
This love was shown through simple acts of kindness...a care package, cards, and
hospital visits, which led us to start Phil’s Friends in 2006.
The organization has quickly grown from supporting Jenna, a four year old with
brain cancer, to supporting over 15,000 individuals every month across the United
States. Thank you for joining us tonight as we come together to share stories of those
touched by the mission of Phil’s Friends. We prayerfully ask for you to partner with us
as we support and bring hope to the ever growing number of individuals affected by
cancer each year.
In hope, Phil & Carrie Zielke

How We Bring Hope
C A R E PAC K AG E S
Patients receive a carefully hand-packed “Care Package” filled with
practical, comforting and entertaining items specifically chosen for
each recipient – a woman, man or child. These items send an important
message that someone understands and cares. Care packages are requested via our
website at www.philsfriends.org and are delivered by mail or at a hospital visit.
C A R D S O F H O P E
Patients then continue to receive monthly “Cards of Hope” in the mail. These messages
of encouragement, humor and hope are colored and decorated by hundreds of
children and volunteers across the U.S. As a faith-based charity, Phil’s Friends prays for
each patient that they would sense God’s love and hope during this difficult journey.
H O P E PAC K PA R T Y
A Hope Pack Party is an opportunity for businesses, churches, and communities to
bring support and hope to those affected by cancer by packing Care Packages and
creating encouraging Cards of Hope for patients going through their cancer journey.
Our trained Phil’s Friends Staff will help create a memorable and engaging experience
for your participants.
Through a Phil’s Friends Hope Pack Party you can:
Have your employees or group engage in a team building exercise
Offer a lasting experience for your group to give back to those in need
Provide the chance to motivate your group to make a difference
Encourage your group to discover new opportunities within your community

In 2013, Phil’s Friends began a partnership with Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Since that time we have expanded greatly within Chicago to include Rush University
Medical Center, The University of Chicago Medicine, and Loyola University
Medical Center. Phil’s Friends staff and trained volunteers visit patients each week
to share Care Packages and Cards of Hope, as well as provide emotional and spiritual
support. In 2018, we have supported more than 2,000 people through our Hope to
Hospitals Program. Many people have shared that our visits brighten their day and
come at just the moment they need it most. Our goal moving forward is to equip
individuals and churches to bring support and hope to patients at hospitals and
cancer centers throughout the suburbs of Chicago and across the United States.
