Help give hope a home in Dallas. The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program oers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for eective treatment may be in another city. The Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. Hope Lodge Dallas will be on the Baylor University Medical Center campus with easy access to all of the city’s major cancer treatment centers.
Hope Lodge Dallas will include: • 50 guest suites for patients and caregivers • Communal kitchen and living area • 24-hour stang and onsite parking
With $16 million raised, the American Cancer Society is more than halfway to its $25 million capital campaign goal. Once these critical funds have been raised the construction process will begin.
The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator Program oers personalized support to help cancer patients and their caregivers stay on track with their treatment and care. A navigator is a specially trained sta person who works with the patient one-on-one and helps guide him or her through the cancer treatment process. The navigator identifies specific needs, provides information and proactively addresses barriers to receiving care. More than 1,828 area patients were served in 2017.
The Patient Navigation Program provides: • Site-based patient navigators at four North Texas hospitals • Support and guidance to patients and caregivers • Support in person and by phone
The 2018 funding needs in North Texas for this program exceeds $160,000.
Cancer patients often miss or forgo potentially life-saving treatments because they cannot aord transportation, are too ill to drive themselves, or lack of family and friends to drive them. In 2017, 10,238 rides were provided free of charge to local cancer patients, to and from cancer-related appointments.
American Cancer Society meets the needs of area patients with: • Daily rides through trained volunteers • Bus and Paratransit passes • Taxi vouchers • Referrals to other community programs for additional transportation (e.g., grocery shopping, worship trips)
The 2018 funding needs in North Texas for this program exceeds $160,000.
Cattle Baron’s Ball funds vital and cutting-edge research. Each year we oer supporters the opportunity to learn more about the work happening in Dallas through an annual “Progress in Cancer Research” Research Symposium. We also oer one-on-one interaction with researchers at on-site lab tours and presentations. Our 2017 Research Symposium presenters were:
• Nicholas Conrad, PhD - Researching Posttranscriptional Regulation of Metabolic Genes involved in Cancer
• Raquibul Hannan, MD, PhD - Researching Image-Guided Stereotactic Radiation Therapy of Primary Renal Cancer
Our funding needs for cancer research in 2018 will exceed $4 million in North Texas.
