Dudley North said “ We tasted the species of Arabia yet we never feel the scorching sun which brings them forth”, So is the case with engineering, Ladies and Gentlemen we , engineers are brutally underestimated !When our names are only mentioned when a building crumbles or car gears crack something must be drastically wrong about the world we live in today! Thus, dear readers, let me raise my and every engineer’s self-esteem by imagining a day without engineering!Let your mind float in vast world of imagination with me!You wake up, step out of the bed on the bare mud floor (No material engineers to alter limestone or marble into even-shaped tiles!).

You look up to the ceiling, mud-made ceiling, and it's about to shatter in pieces, the pillars of the house aren't strong enough to hold the roof (No architectural engineer in hand!). You enter the bathroom, reach out to brush your teeth but sorry no toothpaste, no chemical engineers for that! You go back to your bedroom, really bored, no TV, no mobile phone, even no printed books! You decide to go to a library to read some handwritten books, but alas! No transport medium! You decide to take the camel! Yes darling, we are in nearly the Stone Age by now! You reach the library, which is basically another mud-made crumbled building, sweaty and just begging for a sweep of air, unfortunately you don’t have neither a fan nor an AC! On your way back home you decide to buy a carpet so that you wouldn't have to walk on the bare mud floor, but regrettably you find them out of stock! No machines to produce a hundred carpets in one minute! You have at least to wait for one more week until it is hand-woven!I can continue listing the virtues of engineers on mankind endlessly, yet that's enough for now! Before leaving, the paper you're probably holding right now came out of a machine designed by an engineer! Finally let me state!

A day without Engineering

We are underrated I won't deny, Yet over spilled milk we won't cry, Get up, work to change the world's fate,Chin up, young engineer, you are going to be great!

Below is one of my assignment submissions I worked on for one of the educational MOOCs (massive open online courses) I participated in and was offered by MIT’s Teaching Systems Lab.Upon asking for a volunteer from one of my foundation classes I’m teaching at college, to conduct an interview on the experience of high school, a female student came forward to volunteer for this interview. I found at first glance that intrinsically-motivated students are among the first to apply for something that is out-of-class!I asked her the following questions:1. As it’s been a year since you left at high school do you have good memories of it? Why or why not?2. What do you think the purpose of high school is/was?3. What are 1 or 2 skills that you think you acquired from college? Name 1 or 2 skills4. 1 or 2 skills t you think you realized that you need at college? Think of at least two skills.Initial Feedback:Upon interacting with her, it became clear that she was motivated to study for a “high grade” because her parents persisted that to ensure a bright future for her she needs to score high to get a good job and a good future. Additionally she believed that school taught her many skills like teamwork, presentation skills, and “studying hard” as a virtue important at that stage. Upon coming to college she realize that being in mixed classes, she thought that school can never make her ready, say, to work with men (if she finds a job after school), or to study with boys, since she is at college. She feels always shy to speak or present in presence of the opposite gender, particularly. However she thinks, upon spending a semester at college, she feels that she is overcoming that obstacle gradually. She also found time to join student clubs and participate in volunteering activities at school and at her community as well. She still feels she needed to be good at basic computer skills; sending emails and studying online were not part of school preparations.Reflection and follow up:I’ve realized from this interview that, especially girls, who happen to be dominating at the private college I teach in, seem to be much more motivated to score higher at school, than boys, probably because a lot is at stake; that social status, not finding a job and thus staying at home, etc. I still need to further investigate this by talking with a male student. That being said, for her, home has played a major role in setting attitudes towards future life and study, while, school helped her achieve the high scores she needed to move forward to the next stage. Not that schools helped her prepare for college life in terms of using computers and communicating and studying online, however, generally, she emphasizes that high school is for setting the foundations for a successful start for the future and realizes that though school seems to spoon feed students, it was a great place for her that helped her start jump her academic life at college.

1. Manages your blood pressureOne of the benefits of beetroot juice can help in temporarily lowering high blood pressure. Researchers have attributed this to the presence of nitrates in beets. The naturally occurring nitrates increase nitric oxide found in the blood vessels which allow more oxygen to flow to your brain, heart and muscles and thus, lowering high blood pressure.

2. Gives you a glowing skinIf you’re healthy from within, it reflects on the outside. Beetroot juice acts a great blood purifier, which is key in keeping your skin glowing and healthy. Beetroots are also rich in Vitamin C which helps in clearing blemishes and evens out your skin tone while giving it a natural glow.

3. 3. A great way to detox naturallyBeetroots are a unique source of betalains – a type of phytonutrient. These compounds are known to provide powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detoxification properties. For long, beetroot has been known as the liver-protective food. It is a great liver cleanser and helps in flushing out all the toxins. With the help of compounds like methionine and glycine, it prevents fatty acids from building up and stimulates the liver cells.

4. 4. Boosts energy and staminaBeetroot juice helps in opening the blood vessels and thus increases the flow of oxygen throughout your body making you feel more energetic and active. This is probably why it’s best to have it early morning to wake up your sleepy organs. It has been often promoted as a great workout drink and good for athletes as it increase the flow of oxygen to the muscles preparing them for the stress ahead.5. Good for digestionBeetroot juice with its pulp is full of fiber which helps in regulating your digestive processes and also relieves constipation. Beetroot is also rich in betaine, which is an agent thought to be beneficial for good digestive health. It is said that betaine increases stomach acid levels, in order to improve digestion. A glass of beetroot juice is also a great home remedy for an upset stomach. 6. Lowers blood glucoseThough high in sugar, beetroot actually helps in regulating your blood sugar levels. Studies have shown that it does not lead to high glucose concentration in the blood. This simply means that the natural sugars in beetroot are released very slowly in the body and thus, prevents sudden spikes. In the form of the juice, it may actually help diabetics..

Preparing rice:Heat oil in a large nonstick pot. Add onion and sauté until soft. Add garlic and chili and cook for an additional minute.

Add cardamom, bay leaves, black peppercorns, cumin, cloves, coriander powder, and dried lime powder and chicken and cook for 4-5 mins.

Add 2 cubes MAGGI® Chicken Bouillon and water, simmer over medium heat until chicken is fully cooked and tender.

Gently remove chicken and place on an oven tray with skin-side up. Add rice to the stock, cook over medium-low heat until rice is fully cooked and tender.

Meanwhile, prepare glaze for chicken by mixing tomato paste, yogurt, turmeric and black pepper in a small bowl and brush over the cooked chicken skin. Grill the glazed chicken in a preheated oven at 180°C oven until skin is roasted.

To add smoke flavour to the rice:

Once the rice is fully cooked, remove cover and place a small ceramic bowl in the center. Pour vegetable oil in the bowl and place hot/red charcoal over the oil and quickly cover the rice to prevent the smoke from escaping the pot. Leave cover on for 2-3 mins until rice is infused with smoke.

To assemble the dish, gently fluff the rice and pour into a large serving plate. Arrange roasted chicken pieces over the top and serve.

Pickles and hot sauce are a great accompaniment to Mandi.

At some point, you might want to build a website about yourself, your expertise, ideas or services you want to share to the world. A website is an effective platform to showcase what you can offer and reach a wider demographics. Aside from competitive oppor-tunity, there are way lots of benefits a website can bring such as foster key relationships, increased credibility and around the clock information availability. One good news is that website is not difficult to make when you are making use of thousands of ready available template found over the internet. It doesn't take an IT wizard or a programming nerd to make one but of course there will be millions of advantages when you create one from scratch using programming language such as Javascript, Python or PHP to best cater to your requirements and specifications. In this tutorial, you can make a website by yourself even without programming background, though it definitely helps if you have basic programming skills such as HTML.Below is a summarized step by step process of what I consider to be a DIY (do-it-yourself) guide for building a website. However, first let me bring you to the website basics.

A website has three basic main components as follows:* Domain Name - this is the texts you see in your browser when you open a site. Ex: www.yourwebsite.com is a domain name.* Web-Hosting Servers - simply means the space over the internet you rent or buy to put your website on. They hold large space over the internet where your website contents are being held and supported. * Website platforms - these are the software that provides the design or template of your website, the visible aspect or the pages itself, wherein you can customize according to your needs and objectives of creating the website. In this tutorial I will use Word-press as our platform. By far, Wordpress is the most widely used platform for ready templates. Others would argue, however, it does still work and widely used. Now let's get to the point, the step by step guide on how to really create your website.

1. Get web-hosting service. To make a website, you will need a web hosting service from a provider. As I mentioned above, web hosting simply means "a service" which provides a space for you in the internet to put your website over the internet. They are the big guys out there who hold big servers, to store your data and make them available for everyone. In this tutorial, I will make use of Bluehost. So far the easiest hosting provider I found.

How To Build a Website? (How to Build a Website Using

Ready Template, Part 1)

Create an account in Bluehost. After logging in, you will be offered plans as in the photo below. I suggest to take PLUS plan as circled below and follow the guidelines. 2. Assign a domain name. After securing/paying your hosting plan, let's get to domain registration. In your bluehost account dashboard, click the "Domain" tab. Under "New Domain Search" panel, you can try and search the availability of the domain name of your choice. Select or create your own domain name for your website. This "New Domain Search" panel will tell you if the domain is still available or not, if not, select another one until you get one which is available. Try adding some name like or an adjective to end up with a unique name like, www.theamaz-ingteacher.com. After ending up with a unique and available domain name, bluehost will allow you to acquire it and register under your name. 3. Fill up the form. You will be redirected to payment portal wherein you can enter your payment information through either card or paypal. Don't worry the amount you are going to pay is good for one year hosting. If your payment is successful, bluehost will send you an email with a confirmation link. Check your email and click on the link to verify. At this time, you already have a hosting account. Now you can enter the hosting dashboard where you can install the website ready template, and in this tutorial I am making use of WordPress. There are other providers of ready templates and you can select what are available inside the hosting dashboard.4. Log-in to Bluehost. Log-in to bluehost using the link in your email or directly to their site www.bluehost.com.5. Install your website platform. As mentioned, in this tutorial we will use Wordpress as our platform. Inside your Bluehost account, under hosting and home tab, click on Install Wordpress icon.

6. Check domain. After clicking install, you will be redirected here wherein you will have to select your domain name from the drop down menu as shown below; then click check domain button.

After you click check domain button above, you will be redirect-ed and just follow and click install now button to start installing your website template.

“A website is a digital web presence that displays contents such as texts, photos, videos over the internet.” (IONOS, 2018) In a sense, a

website is a representation of information you would like to share to your audience for a purpose.

(Continued, how to build a website)

You need to wait for some few minutes while the Wordpress platform is being installed or till you see the message, "Your install is complete!". Next, click the "View Credentials" button to get your log-in password for your wordpress admin panel as shown below.

7. Customize your website platform. Now your WordPress platform is already installed, all you have to do is log-in to your admin panel. In the browser, type your domain admin panel URL, ex: www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin. In any case, if your domain name is www.theamazingteacher.com, your admin panel URL will be www. theamazingteacher.com/wp-admin. Having your admin URL correctly in the browser, you will see log-in portal as below. Using the log-in credentials you have generated from the "View Credentials" above, you can enter your website admin panel. You may want to change your password afterwards to personalize it.

Congratulations! You have now created your website with your own domain name, a hosting, and a ready template ready to be customized. Your website admin panel may look like this:

Try customizing the contents and looks of your website this time, or wait for the next part of this tutorial.

How to use plagiarism software “SafeAssign”By: Mario Jr. Anud

Senior Librarian

“Safeassign” Is a coursework originality checker provided by Blackboard, which helps identify plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content. It does so by comparing student submissions to a range of internet resources, electronic databases, journal articles and other students’ submissions. In addition to acting as a plagiarism deterrent, this can help students learn about plagiarism and the importance of proper attribution of any borrowed content.

To use the facility you need to have access to blackboard. Luckily, if you are GCET UG Student blackboard, access is available for you. Before you can fully use the plagiarism software, the first thing you need to do is to self-enroll on the Plagiarism and Referencing Check course. Below are the quick steps.

1. Login to your blackboard account.2. From the blackboard course search, type “Plagiarism and Referencing Check3. Under course ID select UWE-SA.4. Select the Enrol button.5. Select Submit.6. On the success screen, select the OK button.7. You are now enrolled on the course.

Quick steps: making your first submission1. Click on the submit to SafeAssign2. Select Browse My Computer.3. Browse and select the file you wish to submit, and then select open.4. Repeat if you wish to submit more than one file.5. When all the files are attached, select Submit.6. Under assignment details, view originality report.
