April 2017 Sterling Community Center Newsletter (SCC-Sterling Community Center) New Facility Coordinator here at Sterling Community Center: We would like to introduce to you our new Facility Coordinator, Kelly Reilly. Please welcome her to our community and help her as she begins her new adventure here. She has a strong background in athletics. She has a BS in Kinesiology and a Physical Education Certification. She is excited and hopes to create new programs here at the Sterling Community Center. She would love to get a strong basketball program for 3 rd grade to 8 th grade here. She loves to coach all sports and is interested what the community would like to see operate here. Thank you from Rochelle: I want to express my heartfelt “thanks” to the Board here at SCC and the community and for all those that participate in our activities. “Change is never easy for anyone, but rather look at it like a new adventure and step boldly into your next one.” I will continue to volunteer and be a part of our center. I believe in our Community Center and our wonderful community of Sterling. This was not an easy decision to step down, but life goes on we must follow it. Thank you to everyone. I will see you around. Sterling Community Center Closed these dates: Please make note: The Sterling Community Center will be closed the afternoon of April 3 rd , Closed to facility activities on April 4 th and April 5 th due to private rentals. Thank you for your understanding. The Sterling Community Center is looking for a Facility Camp Host for summer 2017: Please share the word the Sterling Community Center is looking for a facility camp host for the summer months in 2017. If interested please call (907) 262-7224 or email the office at: [email protected] for more information. Zumba: Zumba on Monday evenings from 6:00-7:00 PM, and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 PM with our certified Zumba instructor, Linda Klynstra. That’s 2 nights a week for Zumba! Monthly passes available will make great birthday presents or challenge gifts to get that friend out and exercising. Fee is $6.00 and SCC

NO ZUMBA on Monday, April 10th and Wednesday, April 12th due to our instructor having prior commitments. Pickleball: is every Monday and Wednesday, 1:00-3:00 PM and on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00-8:00 PM. The fee is $6.00 or free to Sterling Community Center members. Monthly passes are also available for this. No Pickleball on Tuesday, April 4th and Wednesday April 5th and Thursday April 6th.Pickleball Skills & Drills: Will begin on Monday, March 20th and will continue every Monday from 11:30 am -1:00 pm with Tom Armstrong. He will be teaching the basics of Pickleball, scoring, hitting and the basics of Pickleball. If you are interested come check out this fast growing sport.

Qigong Classes: Starting Thursday, April 20th from 11:00 am -12:30 pm Pamela Wittkampf will be leading Qigong classes in the library. She is a certified instructor. The fee is $6.00 for walk in’s Sterling Community Center members are free. Monthly passes are available. This class will meet every Thursday in the library. Call for more information.Toddler Time: Every Wednesday from 12:00 noon till 1:00 PM. $6.00 per child, parents, grandparents and/or guardians are free. Come let those wee ones run and play inside in our gym. Monthly passes are also available for this program.Gym Walking: Is every Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings from 8:30 – 9:30 AM. $6.00 per person, Sterling Community Center members are free. Monthly passes are also available. Working out with Video’s: Classes right now are temporarily postponed, our volunteer had a work schedule change, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may occur to you. Watch for our postings on our Facebook and web page.Scrapbooking on Your Own: Scrapbooking on your Own will meet Saturday, April 29th in the library from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm. $6.00 per person, SCC members are free. Open to high school students and older. No children. Bring a sack lunch or order in. Busy Hands ~ Happy Hearts: Will not be meeting in April. Green House Project: We have our volunteer committee working on obtaining some small grants and supplies for our green house. Be on the lookout.Indoor Garage Sale: Is scheduled here at the Sterling Community Center on Saturday, April 8th. Start gathering together all your goodies you would like to sell. Our snack shack will be up and running that day. So be sure to stop by and garage sale shop and snack!Spring Annual Craft & Vendor Fair: Sterling residents can begin to sign up and pay for their booths on Monday, March 27th. Soldotna & Kenai residents can sign up Monday, April 3rd and all others may sign up Monday, April 17th The next SCC Board meeting will be on Thursday, April 20th at 5:45 pm. Please make note this is open to the public. The Sterling Community Center would like to take this opportunity to spotlight a few of our volunteers and say “Thank You” for all of your time in which you dedicate your service and skills to the community center. We would like to express our “Thanks” to Bill and Roberta Hilgendorf! They step up to the call of volunteers needed many times throughout the year here at the Sterling Community Center; our Annual Volunteer Fundraiser, to our Community Center Dome Greenhouse. These folks just “dive right in there”! Also we would love to give a huge shout of “Thanks” to Amanda Jicha-McFarland for her dedication. She helps open and close the facility, helps out with our annual fundraiser, helps out in our snack shack when we have Movie Nights, or events going on here. She is the “go to volunteer”. Be sure to thank these folks when you see them out and about.
