F. M. DAY ELEMENTARY

FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

The MOTHEREAD classes delivered at FM Day Elementary school sup-ported the early literacy skills of moms who attended consistently for 10 weeks. The group started with 10 participants and 5 received their certifi-cate of completion. They learned about different areas of literacy and how to support the individual needs of their children. MOTHEREAD classes focused on 5 different areas related to early literacy and language:

* understanding what families value

* sharing and cooperating

* self-possibilities

* expressing needs and feelings

* establishing independence

Each area was covered reading 2 books per area. Mothers discussed ele-ments of each book, sharing their own experiences, worked on their own learning activities, made crafts, and had fun! Rick Bucher, Principal F.M. Day Elementary

Las clases de MOTHEREAD ofrecidas en la Escuela Primaria FM Day ense-ñaron a las madres que asistieron consistentemente durante 10 semanas, las destrezas de alfabetización temprana. El grupo comenzó con 10 participantes, y 5 recibieron el certificado de conclusión. Aprendieron sobre diferentes áreas de alfabetización y cómo ayudar con las necesidades individuales de sus hijos. Las clases de MOTHEREAD se concentran en 5 áreas diferentes relacionadas con la alfabetización temprana y el lenguaje:

* entendiendo lo que valoran las familias

* compartiendo y cooperando

* posibilidades propias

* expresando necesidades y sentimientos

* estableciendo independencia

Cada área se cubrió leyendo 2 libros por área. Las madres discutieron los ele-mentos de cada libro, compartieron sus propias experiencias, trabajaron en sus actividades de aprendizaje, hicieron manualidades, y ¡se divirtieron! Rick Bucher, Director Escuela Primaria F.M. Day

F. M. DAY ELEMENTARY

Parents & Guardians you can now do registration for the 2017 – 2018 school year for new and re-turning students online. Online registration information can be found on the district website @www.westminsterpublicschools.org.

There will no longer be paper packets for registrations. Everything will be done online. register for the 2017-2018 school year. The district is asking for all students to be registered for the 2017-2018 school year by April 1st.

Returning students parents or guardians will need their Parent Portal User name and Password to begin the registration. That information went home with your student on Friday, February 17. Parents and guardians MUST have an email account of their own to complete the registration.

Our WPS District Spelling Bee Champion Priscila Cigarroa of FM Day Elementary School will be competing in the Colorado State Spelling Bee to be held on Saturday, March 11th in downtown Denver. We wish her the very best as she represents our district at the state level. You rock, Priscila!

1st Place in the district Geography Bee went to our own FMD Bulldogs Itzel Huitron Serrano & Ashlyn Rivera! Science Fair = Kaden Snow 1st grade & Melany Tarrango Diaz 3rd grade! Coaches Lauren Eddle-man and Bernardine Sanchez. Spelling Bee = Priscila Cigarroa Guerrero 5th grade & Gerardo Alvarado 5th Grade! Coaches Don Palermo and Bernardine Sanchez. The March equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator (the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator) from south to north. This happens either on March 19, 20 or 21 every year.

La campeona de la Competencia de Deletreo del Distrito WPS, Priscila Cigarroa de la Escuela Primaria FM Day estará compitiendo en la Competencia de Deletreo del Estado de Colorado, el sábado, 11 de marzo, en el centro de la ciudad de Den-ver. Le deseamos lo mejor cuando represente a nuestro distrito a nivel estatal. ¡Excelente Priscila!
