Dear Morgan Maxwell students, parents, and legal guardians,

We want to welcome you all back to another year at Morgan Maxwell! This is not what anyone had in mind as

we finished off the year in a very similar situation. With that said, you have our promise to do the very best that

we can related to remote learning. We have plans for students to get to know their teachers and classmates in each

period through a daily schedule we believe will help provide the learning model needed to be successful as a

remote student.

Here is what you can expect from our teachers:

• Daily lessons, assignments and schedules that provide structured learning.

• Interactive Zoom sessions with teachers and classmates that promote discussion, and peer interaction.

• All Core subjects such as ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies using online curriculum that is aligned

to the state standards by grade level.

• Intervention courses and suggested logons by their intervention teacher.

• IEP Services for our Ex Ed students.

• GATE, ELD courses and Advanced learning courses to meet specialized student needs.

• Dedicated administration who are accessible and available for parent concerns.

• Spirit Weeks and PBIS supports with student awards, recognition and announcements.

• Chromebook or Laptop provided if your child does not have their own device.

• Choice to return to the site in a learning lab or remain home based on your family’s needs and concerns

(once allowed by Governor Ducey)

• Free Grab and Go Meals for pick up daily for at home learners and free breakfast and lunch for all on

site learners. (Morgan Maxwell is an approved Free breakfast and lunch site for all students enrolled.)

Our Bell Schedule has changed this year and is provided in this handbook. Once students are allowed back onto

campus, we will follow the same bell schedule to make the transition smooth.

CHROMEBOOK TAKE HOME DEVICE

GETTING STARTED

To log into a Chromebook, follow the directions below or click the link for the online version

with pictures: Chromebook Instructions

1) Start by opening your Chromebook and pushing the power button. You will be

unable to login until you connect to a Wi-Fi network. You’ll simply see a screen

saying, “Network not available”. You will need to click on the time in the bottom

right corner in order to bring up the System Menu.

2) Click the icon for “Not Connected” to show the list of available nearby Wireless

Networks.

3) Pick a wireless network from the list. If it is a secured wireless network, you will be

prompted for you password. Please contact your internet service provider if you do not

have this. Click “Connect” once you have entered this password. What you’ll need:

• A: Your Wi-Fi network name: If you are utilizing a public/sponsored hotspot

or have separate activation instructions from an Internet Service Provider (ISP)

such as Cox, CenturyLink, or a Cellular Hotspot (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T,

etc.) please refer to those instructions first.

• B: Your Wi-Fi password: This is provided by your internet provider, please

contact them for support or refer to their documentation. It may also be

labeled on the side of your modem.

4) Once connected to the internet, the screen will change to “Sign into your

Chromebook” and prompt you for your email address. Students: Use your student

number (matric number) with @s.tusd1.org

After you have entered your email, click “Next”

*Parents: Your child's Student ID is sometimes called their "matric" number.

If you have a ParentVUE account, you can find their Student ID (or matric number)

in ParentVUE.

Log into ParentVUE at https://parent.tusd1.org/.

Students can also find their matric/Student ID in

StudentVUE,https://student.tusd1.org/

5) Enter your password. At the beginning of the year, your password will be your

student ID/matric number. You will be required to change your password in a later

step for the security of your account.

6) When you first login to a Chromebook, there will be required disclaimer from Google

as this is the first time we have utilized Chromebooks in the district. You’ll need to

1) You’re logged in. Chromebooks simply use Google Chrome browser to access all the

tools you need for school. Go ahead and click the Chrome icon on the bottom taskbar to

get started.

2) Let’s start by getting your password changed. Type “office.com” in the address bar in

Google Chrome, then hit Enter on your keyboard.

3) Type in your full school email address including @s.tusd1.org . For

example, [email protected] and then click Next

4) Confirm your school email address and type your password. (As a reminder, this

will be your Student ID/Matric at beginning of the school year.) Click Sign in when

you are done.

5) Once the Office Portal loads, click your avatar icon in the top right corner, a drop

down will appear. Then click on My Account to move to the next step.

6) A new page will load, click Password from the left menu column of the My Account

screen.

7) The password reset page will load. Please type your old password. Again, this is your

Student ID/Matric number at the beginning of the school year. You will then create your

own personal password. Please make sure to use a CAPITAL letter, number (1,2,3,4,5)

and a special character (!,@,$,%,&,?) when creating a secure password. Passwords

should be at least 8 characters long. We ask that you please REMEMBER your

password! Write it down if you must and keep it in a safe place you can reference later.

Confirm your new password and click “submit” when you are finished. Your password

will then be changed. Thanks for help keeping your account safe and secure!

8) You’re on your way to learning! Visit http://www.tusd1.org/LearnFromHome

for instructions on logging into Clever, Zoom, and Teams and more instructional

resources.

WINDOWS LAPTOP GETTING STARTED

Once you’re connected to Wi-Fi and the internet, you’re free to login to the computer. LOGGING IN: Students: Use your [email protected]

Password: Reset to your password from Student ID/Matric at the beginning of the 20/21

TEACHERS DIRECTLY, PARTICIPATE IN CLASSROOM CHATS AND DISCUSSION IN TEAMS.

Technical Help

If you have technical questions and/or need support, please call Morgan Maxwell K-8

at 520-225-2000 and leave a detailed message including:

1. A call-back number

2. Your student's name and grade

3. The specific issue or question

We will be picking up messages throughout the day in order to resolve and route

issues efficiently.

LEARNING LABS

Students who choose on site learning will be placed in a learning lab of 15 students or fewer

where they will be able to complete their remote learning on site:

• The lab will have a proctor to assist with logging in, headsets for audio, and school

Wi-Fi to connect.

• Students will follow the same schedule as the students learning remotely from

home.

• On site students will be assigned one restroom to use and will remain in the same

lab all day.

• On site students will be assigned a specific lunch line and lunch break area

• On site students are encouraged to bring a full water bottle daily as water fountains on site have been shut off due to Covid-19.

• On site students will follow these procedures for entering and exiting the campus:

b. Students are only permitted to enter one gate daily and exit same gate

daily

c. Admin Team will be posted at every entry point supervising the

process of entering and exiting the campus.

d. Admin will be checking for masks and ensuring students are

practicing social distancing.

e. Students being picked up during day:

• Parent or guardian rings exterior doorbell at main entrance,

• Parent or guardian will state their purpose and show ID to camera.

• Once verified, staff will allow adult into gate.

• Masks are required by all visitors.

• Visitors are required to stand behind the protective shields place

in front office.

• If another parent is speaking with attendance clerk, parent

entering the building is required to stand six feet away from other

parent

• Parent will sign student out and use hand sanitizer to prevent any

transmission of Covid-19.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Attendance

• Students are expected to sign into zoom meeting for every class period.

• Attendance will be taken within the first ten minutes of class.

• Students not present will be marked absent.

• Teachers will factor attendance into grades.

• Your sign in/log in is used to take attendance electronically. Attendance captured through

Zoom synchronous (real time) attendance, online platform minutes (Online platform data

of assignments/quizzes completed and logins), office hour and small group attendance,

minutes captured and attested to by the parent/guardian.

GRADING

• Teachers will adhere to a strict district grading policy:

o Teachers will assign at least two graded assignments per week.

o Grades will be entered into grade books on Synergy before the next week begins

o Students who do not show up or complete assignments when they are due will

receive an F on the assignments

o Failing grades may result in retention of students at the end of the year.

o Students who are retained will repeat the grade level they are currently enrolled

in.

Online Etiquette with Teachers and Classmates

• Online expectations are the same as in person:

o respectful communication

o Students should show face on screen to verify attendance

• If your teacher feels as though you are not following expectations, they will let you

know and have the option to put you back in the “waiting room” for a brief time to

refocus.

• Code of Conduct expectations and consequences are the same.

TUSD Code of Conduct and Discipline

The 2020-2021 Code of Conduct (COC) has not changed from the 2019-20 school year.

of the COC will be available on a limited basis at school sites. Below the link, there are

clarifications of specific behaviors that are related to Covid-19 and CDC guidelines.

COVID-19 Related Expectations

Students are to follow all expectations as stated in the TUSD Code of Conduct,

including but not limited to:

• Respecting social distancing norms and guidelines while on campus:

o Keeping hands to selves

o No touching other people’s bodies, masks, materials or workspaces

o Maintaining six feet or more from other students in all school

spaces including:

▪ Classrooms

▪ Hallways

▪ Front office

▪ Bathrooms

▪ Eating spaces

▪ Playgrounds

▪ Buses

▪ Entry and exit gates

▪ Nurse’s office

• Wearing a mask is required at all times while on campus. • Plastic bags should be supplied to students for mask storage during eating at

lunchtime.

o Intentionally removing your own or other’s masks may be classified as

violations: recklessness, minor aggressive act, or endangerment.

o Failure to comply with mask rules will result in progressive disciplinary

action. (1st, 2nd, and 3rd offenses)

▪ Violations may be classified as defiance and non-compliance or

other applicable offense.

▪ Repeat violations may result in a student being unable to return

to school premises and learning labs

Zoom

• Teachers will conduct their teaching over zoom for the first quarter and until you

are notified of changes.

• Students are expected to log into zoom each day for their learning sessions.

• Logging into zoom multiple times a day is the expectation and will be used to take

attendance.

• Students are expected to respect teacher’s expectations for classroom ZOOM lessons

• Proper etiquette and rules must be followed.

• Rules and etiquette will be taught to students by the teacher of record.

• Violations may be classified as disruption, defiance and disrespect, or other

applicable offenses.

• The student must be visible on zoom meetings

Appropriate Use of Technology

Technology (laptop, phones, tablet, etc.) Whether provided by district or provided from

home, is expected to be used with respect for all those around you. Please use good

judgement when accessing your learning sites and interacting with your teachers and

peers. You can refer to the Code of Conduct for more information on the misuse of

technology.

Consequences

Consequences are aligned with the Code of Conduct (see link above). Teachers will give

reminders of expectations, but if negative behavior persists, progressive

discipline/consequences will be imposed.

The school counselors support students in several ways:

• Develop student class schedules to best meet the needs of the student.

• Provide individual students with social emotional support.

• Identify learning challenges and work with school staff to provide interventions.

• Communicate with families on the academic and social emotional needs of a

student.

• Provide social emotional lessons to whole classes.

• Facilitates restorative conferences for students

The Dean serves many roles to support students:

• Monitors student behavior and academics.

• Facilitates Restorative Conferences for students.

• Responds to lower level disciplinary violations and provides consequences.

• Monitors campus and learning environments for safety of students and staff.

• Responds to parent concerns.

MTSS

The MTSS facilitator monitors student academic progress and achievement via student test

scores, class assessments and grades, teacher input, and other data. When a student is

struggling in a class, the MTSS facilitator works with the student, family, teachers, and

school staff to identify student needs, develop an intervention plan for that student, and

Curriculum Service Provider

The CSP provides curriculum and instructional support for teachers and school leaders under the

direction of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development. The CSP supports district

initiatives and instructional goals, curriculum training and implementation, teacher development of

professional knowledge and instructional skills improvement. The CSP assists in overseeing the

district’s curriculum and instruction, linking teachers and other instructional staff with the resources

Administration

The school administration is tasked with running a safe and organized remote learning

environment including:

• Monitoring academics and behavior of all students.

o Addressing behavior and academic concerns when they arise.

o Analyzing test scores, student grades, and participation.

Office Staff

The office staff greets parents at the office counter, answers phone calls, communicates

student and parent needs to the appropriate personnel, monitors attendance and records,

provides support to teachers and staff, and much more. The office staff is responsible

for helping the school run efficiently and smoothly throughout the day and school year.
