2017 Annual Report

United Way ofPayne County

UNITED WAY fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Payne County.

TO LIVE BETTER, WE MUST LIVE UNITED.

Letter

Denise WeaverBoard President

65 years ago we began to help Payne County residents under the name of Community Chest. During the first campaign, we raised $21,169.04 and funded seven nonprofits including the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Stillwater Mission and Youth Center.

This year we will help fund 22 nonprofits in Payne County with the goal of $925,000.

UNITED, we support eight programs that provide food to more than 300 residents daily. UNITED, 34 homeless children will have a safe place to stay tonight. UNITED, one out of three Payne County resi-dents will receive the help they need.

United Way fights for the education, health and financial stability of every person in Payne County.

Our community would not be UNITED without the help of businesses and individuals coming together to make sure our residents are fed, clothed and safe.

Thank you for LIVING UNITED for 65 years.

Message from the Board President and Executive Director

Allocations

Approximately 13 UWPC board members spend more than 400

hours reviewing agency budgets, audits, financial reports, program outcomes, performance histories

and presentations. The allocations and accreditation committees

meet to discuss recommendations for each

United Way agency and determine that year’s goal.

UWPC board reviews the recommendations and

determines any changes.

UWPC and the community raise funds to be distributed to the

agencies in the upcoming year.

Beginning January of each year funds are distributed among

the partner agencies on a monthly basis.

United Way of Payne County (UWPC) ensures your contributions reach those in need through a

dedicated team and extensive review process. We are committed to responsible stewardship and

diligence in keeping our combined administrative and fundraising costs below the norm for

nonprofit organizations and other United Ways in Oklahoma. UWPC is transparent and accountable

with your donations and ensures all donations impact the community where they are needed most.

United Way of Payne County board plays a vital role in ensuring continual campaign

success. Each board member is asked to review policies and agencies, and help with

individual businesses during the campaign. Each board member goes above

and beyond to ensure the agencies are qualified and will receive funds.

Board of Directors

Without our board members there would be no United Way in Payne County.

Thank you to all of our fantastic board members who volunteer so much of their

time ensuring we have a successful campaign. We could not do it without you.

2017 Board of Directors

UWPC established the Bennett Basore Award in 2002 to honor the late Bennett Basore. Basore was a former

board member whose leadership in establishing the local United Way accreditation procedure ensures

accountability to donors, proper utilization of funds and compliance with state, federal and United Way

regulations. Basore created the accreditation process which is used by United Ways nationwide.

CASA for Kids was recognized as the 2016 Bennett Basore award winner for their outstanding work in the community. They received a plaque, stipend and will be featured in this year’s campaign video. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and relies on specially trained volunteers who speak for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the court system.

The average cost to get one child through the court system is $1,808. Want to get involved? The best way to help is to volunteer as a CASA. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and must complete a 30-hour pre-service training. No special background or education is required. On average, CASA volunteers spend appoximately 10 hours a month on a case. To learn more or to get involved, contact CASA for Kids at 405-624-2242.
