A Letter from Our GraduateBefore I came to Marian in 5th grade I knew I was a fast runner. But I didn't know whatit meant to be a teammate. I didn’t know how playing team sports developed you asan athlete, as a person, as a critical thinker — and as a leader.

At Marian, I discovered my passion for sports, how sports intersected with academics— and how they were two parts of a much larger whole. I was on the volleyball, basketball, and track teams. My coaches at Marian each saw something in me that no

one else had before — as a leader. They gave me opportunities that I didn’t see in myself, and pushed me to go past my comfort zone and test my limits. They helped me develop

confidence that I didn’t know was inside me.

This confidence wasn’t limited to the track or the court. Marian helped me to become a better student, try new experiences, and see my future path. It helped me develop as a person, and learn the skills I would need to succeed inhigh school.

Student-athletes have to be smart — both on and off the field. We have to understand time management because wehave to juggle homework, practice, and games. Marian also taught me about being a good friend — and how to createthe time in my day for camaraderie that comes with being on a team. Being a Marian Girl opened up my world.

At Incarnate Word Academy, my new high school, while many of my freshman teammates had a hard time balancingacademics and sports, I was ready thanks to the rigorous foundation at Marian. Marian’s challenging academics, supportive study halls, and enrichment program gave me the foundation necessary to know how to manage my timeand prioritize school work.

As a high school student, Marian continued to support me by checking in with me at school, hosting workshops, and going on college visits with me.

But high school was only the middle of my Marian journey. During the summer of 2016, I interned at Ascension Health under the leadership of Marian Board Member Chris Young. This experience helped prepare me for an internship in clinic administration at Mercy Hospital.

I’m now a freshman at Mizzou and have plans to continue my journey as an orthopedic surgeon — coupling my love for athletics and science.

Life is a lot like running track. It requires no special equipment and seemingly anyone can doit. But both are actually much harder than they look.

When you invested in me, you gave me the running start that I needed on my journey. Thank you for all that you’ve done to impact my life and the lives of future Marian Girls.

With great appreciation,

Tori Chapman

8THANNUAL

Young Friends Trivia NightFriday, February 23, 2018 • Marian Middle School

"Even though the event is organized by the Young Friends committee,Trivia Night is great for all adult age groups. It’s laid back, peoplebring a table full of food, and it’s a fun way to raise money. Plus, whatbetter way to promote a school than by challenging a room full ofpeople to see how smart they really are?"

— Matt Bruns, Young Friend and Berkshire Hathaway sponsor

Award of Excellence Honorees: The Hunt Family and Berges Family Foudnation

“What I like about the Marian Magic event is how it represents thevalues of Marian Middle School: straight-forward, mission-orientedand easy-to-understand. Just as the school’s focus is on providing aneducational path for young women to follow, the focus of MarianMagic is to provide the St. Louis community an opportunity to supportthat path. The best part of the evening for Marcia and me is to meetthe young women of Marian Middle School. To hear their love forthe school and aspirations for life gives us hope for the future. An investment in Marian Middle School yields an outstanding returnfor the St. Louis Region. And what better opportunity is there to makethat investment than at Marian Magic with fellow supporters?”
