2017 Our Mission The North Shore Neighbourhood House is a not-for-profit registered charity serving the North Shore community since 1939.

We believe working together to meet the grassroots needs of our neighbours, especially our most vulnerable residents, is essential to building a safe, healthy and strong community.

The house values and promotes cooperation, respect and empowerment through the provision of programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals and the community as a whole.

This past year the NSNH continued to emphasize that strong connections make for strong communities. Here are some highlights from the year:

After responding to a request for proposal with the City of North Vancouver to be the operator of a child care facility in the new Onni building on 13th street, we opened our doors with a brand-new fa-cility in September of 2017 named ‘North Shore Neighbourhood House Centreview Child Care’.

Centreview provides 37 new spaces in our licensed child care centre, allowing us to expand our support and to continue to meet a need for North Vancouver families. Through opening this brand new centre we have also enabled the community to better understand the potential of what quality child care looks like, and the value of well thought out strategic placement for future centres.

The North Vancouver Waterfront Gala has continued to offer NSNH funding not only for programming development and delivery, but also has enabled NSNH to meet unique individual needs. This partnership continues to fill a significant gap and allows us to respond to emerging issues as they arise.

The North Shore Neighbourhood House is moving into our fourth accreditation with the Council on Accreditation, continuing with our operating model of engaging with the broader community about what is wanted and expected. As a result, we hear first-hand what is most needed from our children, youth and seniors. All of this is grounded in our commitment to problem solving and following best practices.

NSNH continues to be committed to listening to our residents about their needs. At NSNH we understand all ages and all families want program service that is current, flexible, affordable and accessible. We go into 2018 ready to deliver!

Next year will mark 80 years that NSNH has been supporting our North Shore community. Our ac-complishments this year and moving forward into the coming year are directly a result of our ongoing donor support, our collaborative partnerships and our endless hours of staff and volunteer time.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors, all of the staff, volunteers, partners and funders of NSNH for never wavering from the mission of providing quality accessible programs and services to the people of this community.

Financial Report The North Shore Neighbourhood House experi-enced an increase in revenue to $7,771,996 com-pared to revenue of $7,257,208 in 2016 mostly due to growth in childcare over the past year.

The opening of the new state-of-the-art Centreview childcare centre was completed in 2017 and began operation in the fall. This contributed to an increase in childcare revenue as well as increases in wages, program costs and program equipment.

Our seniors programs have expanded and diversi-fied to reflect the needs of our growing number of 55+ clients. Revenues from our pay-for-service programs have been steadily increasing as well as our popular bus trips which have also contributed to the bottom line. With the population of seniors continuing to increase, this will continue to be an area of growth.

We experienced some increased expenses this year due in part to our new daycare centre but also due to our strategic planning process and some upgrades to our technology infrastructure.

The NSNH continues to strengthen its financial position so we have the flexibility to meet new challenges, take on new projects and continue to provide our well run and well attended programs.
